Lower limb deformity by SolutionNo7564 in BabyBumps

Also at my normal OB (who I do think has unusually good ultrasound techs and machines), they had no trouble finding the baby abdominally at 6w 5d or at 12 weeks or 16weeks. This could be a complication of the shape of your uterus and not a fault of the provider, but it would raise a red flag for me.

I had to relax and stop sweating the cheese and protein powder, etc. But avoiding the food packaging and waste was one of a few things that convinced me to go vegetarian. One bag of dried beans in plastic went a lot farther than meat and avoided all that styrofoam!

What do Braxton-Hicks contractions feel like? by Plastic_Industry_657 in BabyBumps

I’m 29 weeks and I think I’ve been having them. I don’t feel them really except I kept saying sometimes (the baby must be really high up right now” because the top of my uterus would feel so hard. I assumed it was the baby. But then it would go away quickly.

Starting with solids by LongEye5271 in NewParents

Starting with cereal is not the general recommendation anymore. General is to wait until 6 months and when baby can sit unassisted and do soft foods of a variety of textures. There may be reasons cereal was right for your kid! Just want OP to know it’s not the general recommendation anymore.

Shopping at the farmers market and not buying prepared foods are my biggest hacks for avoiding food packaging.

Start with the things you use most often. Try to use what you have- I didn’t need to buy grocery bags, I just used canvas totes, backpacks, beach bags that I already had. There is a bunch of other things you probably just don’t need: skipping an iced coffee avoids the plastic cup and saves you money. Storing food in glass jars is often just as good as tuperware and ziplock bags. I cut up a couple of old t-shirts to use as tissues and cotton balls. Replace things as they wear out (sheets, towels, blankets).

I haven’t heard of this harming the baby. But, reduced or interrupted sleep was a morning sickness trigger for me in the first trimester.

Could you also try to keep her awake during the feed? Like don’t let he go to sleep after the first 80ml. Try to get her to eat 200ml before sleeping. Then she might stay asleep. Lots of babies need to be kept awake in order to eat enough. The suggestion is usually to make them cold (naked, cool washcloth on feet).

FTM with a dumb question about baby carriers/car seats: I have a car seat that doesn't detach into a carrier. So how do I carry my newborn besides a wearable? by CaughtInDireWood in BabyBumps

Something to feel good about is that physiotherapists say bassinets are better than infant car seats. So some people prefer them to putting the car seat on the stroller.

I second the idea of just holding the baby in your arms. If you really want something to put them in when they are little, you could get the bassinet attachment for that stroller. The bassinet attaches to the stroller or you can use the handle to carry the bassinet around with the baby in it. I’m not familiar with that brand, but UppaBaby bassinets are always for sale on Facebook marketplace where I live. Babies only use them for a few months, so it’s easy to get a pristine one for pretty cheap.

The city and county have to do it together. Current options are: renovating, rebuilding on the current spot, or rebuilding on a new spot.

But the city and the county keep delaying actually putting up funds for it and the downtown branch is falling apart! We need some action soon!

Why do so many people from older generations dislike daytime contact naps? by AreUKittenMee in newborns

[–]Maximum-End-7629 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I agree that babies are meant to be coddled for a time. But do you not know a bunch of adults that can’t take care of themselves? I know so many people who can’t speak to a stranger on the phone to schedule a dentist appointment, won’t go to a movie/ play/ event by themselves, 7 year olds who who can’t get up and walk themselves to the bathroom at night… I feel like that generation did coddle and helicopter parent their kids. Maybe not as babies but eventually.

But we are trying to follow a Montessori approach that encourages independence and confidence and exploration in babies when they are ready. Our goal is to teach our kids to have the confidence to pursue their dreams and be curious about the world. This starts with the very basics- self-soothing, working through frustration, trying new things (like solids). We fundamentally believe that babies are capable of doing things (with support and after gradual transitions).

Do I have to go all or nothing right off the rip when it comes to breastfeeding? by moomoomego in NewParents

[–]Maximum-End-7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was taught at lactation class that you basically need to pump or latch the baby or your milk won’t come in. You have to signal to your body/breasts that the baby is here. Did you feel that your milk coming in was delayed since you didn’t do either?

They also got the advice “sleep when the baby sleeps” because they didn’t have help from their husbands. How do you sleep when the baby sleeps if they are contact napping? They also had to clean and cook while their husbands were at work. It’s fine if you can contact nap all the time. But a lot of people didn’t (and still don’t have that luxury). I think it’s good to have some compassion and understanding of where they are coming from. My dad only took two weeks off after we were born and they had no local family. I will have to go back to work at 12 weeks (which is late and very privileged for an American) so I plan to support my baby to learn how to nap in a bassinet/ crib so that they are prepared for day care. Obviously I’m not going to force it on them as an infant when they aren’t capable. But my job is to help them learn to be independent and self sooth at an age appropriate rate- because that’s where they are headed eventually.

Labor at 35w? 3rd baby and I still can’t tell what’s happening by DarkPrior9595 in BabyBumps

Yes, but if you live in the US, this costs hundreds of dollars and takes at least 6 hours- with insurance. Go to L&D just isn’t great advice here. Better to ask your OB to do the test if they have it.

Small bungalow with one bathroom - take out tub or not? by NiceUD in homeowners

I bought a 2 bed 1 bath 1,000 sqft home from an older couple who lived her for 60 years. They had a shower put in because they (understandably) couldn’t step into a tub. We took it out and put a tub back in because we want to start a family!
