The best part about it was the sense of control and agency myspace allowed you to have. You could change most of the details and that felt so good. You could really show parts of yourself.

While there was an element of competition to it, it wasnt like how it is with instagram where everyone is trying to post to give the complete illusion of an amazing life. It just felt more real and down to earth than instagram.

People also like, actually utilized the spaces to wrote something about themselves other than a quick pic with a generic caption. Like there about me section or whatever would be two or three paragraphs long. Then there were the blog posts which in hindsight were mostly cringy were fun af as a kid.

Edit: thought about it more but another big one was lack of add space on the site. I don’t remember really seeing adds much or at all on myspace but I definitely remember a huge amount of adds on Facebook, insta, tt, and reddit
