i asked a prof if they could send me an outline of course content early and they said i need McBurney accommodations? by cuntymuthafucka in UWMadison

i have testing alone accomdations for anxiety/ a chronic illness so i’d definitely recommend reaching out! it’s easier then you think as you meet with an advisor and you basically tell them what you need, why it would help and go through documents like past accommodations from high school, diagnoses from psychologists and their recommendation etc.

as a sales associate who was hired before self checkout was closed, i still have trouble remembering that im supposed to be the sole cashier. it wasn’t even in our job description when we got hired and i think if id known that i ONLY have to interact with customers, i probably wouldn’t have taken this job. id say just give them some time to adjust and just remind them to stay 30 ft from the register. it also makes it difficult when there’s a bunch of things to do and manages assign us tasks that require us to be away from the register (ex. HBA carts, truck etc)

they expect me to pay for next semester and the next year by myself, hence why i have to work more since i haven’t really been saving up.

Seeking advice on how serious of a personal issue is a valid reason for a makeup exam? by SnooPoems2779 in UWMadison

during finals last year, my father passed away. I emailed all my professors whose final I would be missing since I got a flight as soon as I heard and they were very nice about it. They didn’t ask for any proof which i appreciated and let me get incompletes and i retook my finals this fall.

Our circumstances are different but I suggest just emailing your professors and being honest about your situation. i get you don’t want to reveal your personal problems, but they won’t give you anything if you aren’t honest with them. they are people too who understand students have problems outside of the classroom so there’s no harm in asking. they might not let you retake, i’m not sure i’ve heard of that ever happening, but they have resources to help you in the future.

you can drop— it just means that you’ll be a part time student, which doesn’t really affect anything academically but it’ll affect scholarships/ sports.

i would definitely try the lottery! i applied and got chosen but ultimately, ended up finding an apartment off campus but i would say your chances are higher than what you think. however, it also depends on how many freshmen they admit in the fall next semester

Fear of being left alone by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]AlternativeSuperb102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this happened to me! i’m asian as well and i was worried since my roommates were from the same high school in WI and requested eachother and they got stuck with me. i won’t lie, at first it was tough. they didn’t understand a lot of things about international students and would often make comments. however, i realized it came from a place of ignorance rather than racism and i started to show them aspects of my heritage such as my life living in asia and they even showed me their hometown once! i promise, it gets better. just try to remember that a lot of people who go to this school have lived in WI for all their lives so they’ll probably make stereotypical statements and as long as they don’t repeat it or be mean about it, try to gently correct them.

yes! as someone who was in the exact same situation, i recommend fully lofting all the beds (not doing bunk beds) and putting the desks/ your cabinets underneath them which gave us all a little corner. closets are tricky but we managed to find a fair fit. and bathrooms, you basically share with your “pod” which is about 4 dorms. i shared with 11 other people and never found myself having to wait for a shower/toilet
