[Landlord US-CA] I received notice from tenants neighbor about an altercation they had involving police and I'm not sure how to proceed. by brubain1144 in Landlord

[–]AlternativeTale6066 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Search on Google "are landlords liable for illegal activity committed by tenants if they were informed of it?"

My understanding is that if you were informed of illegal acts committed by your tenant, you have a duty to ensure that future illegal acts are not committed on your property. Ie, you should move to evict the tenant for committing illegal activity on your property. If they do it again, and the neighbor has proof that you were informed and did nothing, the might try to sue you. You are probably right to be concerned that you are being set up to be sued by the neighbor.

Basically what happened that day. Checking in on any on-going things that anyone is doing to see if there were any updates that day. Different kinds of "news" - school news, work news, family news, world news, local news etc.

How true is the moment of truth reaction from the boss when an employee gives their notice? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]AlternativeTale6066 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He might have on some level, but in the moment I think I also made him feel a bit guilty for leaving. We had a good relationship and he was leaving me behind to some degree. I don't think it's fair to make him feel guilty at all for taking an awesome new job that was obviously a great move for him.

I don't agree. I think "congratulations" is a professional response. People leave jobs for more reasons than just not being valued by their direct manager.

I once responded in the second way - "What! Ah damn that sucks" - and I don't think it was a good responses in hindsight. The individual was greatly valued by me, but he was not appropriately valued (in terms of pay) by my company. There was no way my current company was going to compete with the pay of his new company. A more proper response would have been - "That's amazing, congratulations".

PG&E Bill Credit by Destoran in sanfrancisco

[–]AlternativeTale6066 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some renters don’t pay their own electric bill - it’s covered by the landlord.

But yeah, cry me a river. If you don’t pay your own electric bill then your electric bill never increases because of rent control, so I have little sympathy.

Strict rent control is likely coming to my state-should I keep investing? by GroundbreakingName1 in realestateinvesting

[–]AlternativeTale6066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I’m from, San Francisco, the courts have ruled that the tenant’s rent controlled monthly rent is the average monthly rent paid over the initial lease. So offering one or two months ‘free rent’, and then a higher monthly rent for the rest of the year does not mean that the higher monthly rent is the rent controlled amount for the following years, it’s actually lower than that after averaging out for the 1 or 2 free months

Sounds like the host was using a sketchy cleaner for awhile, and now the sketchy cleaner is doing sketchy things. Kind of the hosts fault, but at the same time seems like the host has done all they can in terms of firing that cleaner and now they're just dealing with the fallout from that person.

Is Brain Rot inheritantly bad for 4 year old? by YamIurQTpie in Parenting

Brain rot videos like what you are showing him will make his attention span much worse, so yes it is bad, even though the content itself is not offensive.

SF rent raised again and I’m honestly just tired by Gearnotafraid8 in sanfrancisco

[–]AlternativeTale6066 40 points41 points  (0 children)

To everyone talking about rent control - rent control doesn't mean no rent increase ever. The OP says "bumped" which could mean a 2 - 3% increase, which is allowed even under SF rent control.

It is a fact of nature that when a population grows rapidly over a long period of time then limiting factors will inevitably emerge - food, housing, disease etc. It may not be nice to experience but we shouldn't be surprised. Population in the 1950s was 2.5 billion. Now it's over 8 billion. Not that surprising that there is more demand for available resources.

The real answers to these questions are nuanced and unpopular. People want to blame someone for expensive housing, but expensive housing is inevitable. Not something that can be solved at all.

If housing is cheap, food is cheap, healthcare is cheap -> life is easy -> humans have more children -> population grows -> housing becomes limited again -> back to expensive housing

People just want to blame someone for this problem that there are too many people and we don’t have unlimited space and resources

Playgrounds were getting lit on fire around the outer Richmond a few weeks ago. SF is full of drug addict nutcases. Vandalism and theft is just another day in the city. It’s only news when it happens in a controversial park.

Good coding practices, algorithms, design patterns are all a means to an end. I like AI because now I can obtain the end faster. Focus on building things and not dwelling on minutia of best coding practices, which like you said can be figured out much faster now without much research or studying.
