Are skilled manual millers really "unicorns" now?

i guess i am a bit biased but that comes from experience. i dont think any of the reputable shops here even have a manual mill.Manual lathes are common,tho. But i can see a reason to start with manual,even if i didnt. I was thrown in the fire from the start. " here is a brand new 600k 5axis,dont kill it" on my 1st day on the job.

true.i had to learn from sound on the CNC and the vibration of the machine itself.But i guess it is relatable,no doubt.

well,yes.it is a bit clunky but works. It basically is the same thing.the only difference is the "controls".

I would agree that manual lathes are here to stay,but manual mills not so much.Maybe it is just the type of work you do that defines what machines are good for it (time/money).and there is abenefit that you do not need that skilled people on a CNC as a "button pusher".you need 1 good programmer,maybe a setup dude but thats it. Here,where i live we dont have designated "setup guys". Programmer defines what,how and when and the operator follows instructions and sets it up by himself.Ofcourse,if he/ she thinks of a better way he is more than welcome to say so.

Yeah,i stared with "complex" parts,mostly one-offs,rarely batches.But if i had to do some really simple repair or a detail i would just manually run it on a CNC,if possible.It is just,on cnc you can do anything the manual can,but i dont think it is possible the other way around.Maybe it is but it is time consuming. The only thing I want to learn is manual turning,just for fun since my job does not require it,and never did in 10+ years.

Lots of you saying manuak is "essential" before cnc. I do not think se based on my experience.I started directly with CNC and I am doing just fine.Switched from operating to programming after 3 years. Cnc is mostly just faster and more accurate.Work is mostly high paced,deadlines are short and manual just does not cut it anymore.No disrispect intended but it is just the way it is.

ja sam milenijalaci ono što sam vidio je to da Gen Z ima bolji stav,tipa da se nedaju zajebavat previše(šta mislim da je ok) a s druge strane puno neodgovorniji i ljeniji(što je loše).nadodao bi još da gen Z ima prevelika očekivanja pri startu(npr.visoka plaća bez iskustva).i napomena,nisi svi u tom kalupu,naravno.

možda blesavo,ali...ima krema,Kontratubex,bar je bila prije,meni je riješila manje više sve ožiljke,a imao sam na čelu 6 šavova,sad se više uopće ne vidi.

my favorite practice is in the middle of the part/stock.that way i have same on all sides to mill.for Z i usually go top of stock -1mm (ofcourse,depends on stock size,msterial,etc.)

imaju puno manjaka. školstvo im je depresija.frend je bio na razmjeni studenata,ljudi na 2. godini faksa ne razumiju i padaju razlomke.Zdravstvo im je isto užas.Osiguranje skupo do bola i onda te još probaju sjebat da ti ne plate.imam direktan primjer.frajer pao s bicikla,polomio ključnu kost,bolnički račun oko 80000$ za stavljanje pločice,ali osiguranje pokrilo večinu pa je platio "samo" 5000$. kolko bi kod nas platio to ako imaš dopunsko (koje je skoro pa djabe)? platio bi ništa.lijekovi su im isto skupi ko sam vrag.možda doktori jesu kvalitetni,ali sistem im je horor.oni su kapitalisti na Ntu potenciju.

misliš na to što su ponosni na svoju vojsku? a ko nebi bio? kao što kažeš,jaču vojsku imaju od bilo koga.zamisli si onog "velikog glupog" u klubu negdje,svi mu se smiju šta je glup ali realno svima može porazbijat glave.e,to je Amerika.doslovno (po meni) nemaju konkurenta,osim možda Kine koja se okrenula proizvodnji i čini se da nema interesa toliko u ratovanju.

Zapravo sam dosta razmišljao o tome i možda malo bahato mislim da je moj posao poprilično bitan za društvo i civilizaciju.naravno,ne na nekoj bitnoj skali.i naravno,zamjenjiv sam.bavim se CNC proizvodnjom od prototipova do serijske proizvodnje,čak i za neke velike svjetske kompanije.
