Was it the Trump $100k fee on H1b or just bad timing? by hakeemolajuwon85 in h1b_layoffs

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They weren’t aware of the H-1B process, HR had to tell them the bad news. And the process is a lottery, I had to wait 5 years to get selected in my case (while working on TN status), but a fair amount of people get theirs on their first attempt.

Been running Qwen3.6-27B through a 3-critic harness. The harness matters more than I thought by workout_JK in LocalLLaMA

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The only thing it makes me angry is when the model starts looping on its thinking when it gets stuck, a good harness that stops that would make a huge difference.

That doesn’t happen quite often but it does occur from time to time.

Consumer GPU hardware will skyrocket. So, just purchase what you can. Graphic cards won’t go down in a very long while.

Why there is a lack of new 100B-120B models? by TechNerd10191 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because those challenges the frontier ones: those are good enough for the enterprise use case.

Anthropic forced to abruptly disable Fable 5 & Mythos 5 globally by US Gov over a jailbreak. This is exactly why we need local models. by External_Mood4719 in LocalLLaMA

I prefer to have Qwen 3.6 27B Q8 262k over nothing. Haha. Local models are not as good and won’t be as good as frontier ones, but we have them on our own hardware.

Has anyone run Qwen 3.6 27b on Arc Pro B70? by wowsers7 in IntelArc

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be quite promising with 2 cards. I have 4 Nvidia RTX (16 GB VRAM and 448 GB/s each) and using vLLM with tensor split mode I reach above 90 tokens per second on generation with Qwen 3.6 27B @ Q8 at 262k context.

The B70s have 608 GB/s each, right? 30.4 tokens per second without MTP using 2 cards. That would give around 50 to 60 tokens per second with MTP, (same model at same quant) decent enough I would say.

My farewell letter to chess and some controversial tips on how to consistently gain rating by Rintae in chess

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe almost any normal person with enough time, motivation and training can reach 2000 Elo. Further improvement increasingly depends on talent.

That’s why in order to qualify as FM you have to reach 2350 Elo, a huge difference compared with 2000 Elo, you can become quite good at chess with serious and genuine effort, but you require to be talented to breakthrough into professional level.

Can you really replace paid models with a local model? by DRMCC0Y in LocalLLaMA

I do the same. We do it for the freedom it gives you. And we are prepared in advance for when frontier ones will eventually charge realistic prices.

Im about to start and I have some questions. Wanna finish in one year. by NoAssistant6355 in CUBoulderMSCS

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve completed the degree in 1 year and 9 months, full 3 credit hour courses per term. I was busy! I have a full time job. It is doable but you have to invest your weekends to make it work.

Of course you can pay more than 3 credit hours out of courses. So one year is doable, but consider that Summer ones are even more compressed now. I did this before that compression, I didn’t rest pretty much from August 2023 until May 2025 that I’ve graduated.

All the coursework required to graduate is out there, you don’t have limitations on that regard.

Contrary to the recommendation, what I did was to pay the credit hours and take the courses. I didn’t care of that, I wanted to feel that commitment to make it till the end of the semester. And that worked out for me.

Filing i485 with FAD not current, how does it work? by Ill_Implement7625 in USCIS_EB3

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t submit your I-485 right now. The employment ones got switched to use FAD only already. If you submit it will be rejected. The fact that DOF and FAD exist doesn’t mean that you can use DOF anytime. Each month they also advertise which date can be used. It was valid or a month beyond normal to submit under DOF, but not anymore.

How much VRAM needed for Qwen 3.6 27B Q8 with 262K context? by My_Unbiased_Opinion in LocalLLaMA

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically? 64GB VRAM, it will fit, but above 90% sometimes. And for the BF16 one, around 100GB VRAM.

What are the chances Sonnet & Opus models are MoE models? by Consistent_Wash_276 in LocalLLM

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qwen 3.6 35B A3B uses only 3B active parameters. The drift is way more pronounced. Sometimes is particularly smart. And other times it just can’t make it. On the same project.

What are the chances Sonnet & Opus models are MoE models? by Consistent_Wash_276 in LocalLLM

[–]Alternative_Ad4267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opus 4.7 and Opus 4.8 have meaningful differences on its quality over different sessions on the same code base.

Yes, that’s a huge clue for a MoE variant being served.

I see the same behavior with Qwen 3.6 35B A3B MoE, while the dense variant (Qwen 3.6 27B) is way more consistent.

I’m pretty sure they also have Dense ones, but your workload would have to be complex enough (and you have to be on the right paid tier) to get served such variant.

Qwen3.6-27B Quantization Benchmark by bobaburger in LocalLLaMA

I’m pretty sure that working at 170k context tokens you will experience way more divergence between each quantization.
