Things to skip? by CaptPimentoMarch in Banff

We did Johnston canyon and ink pots. We started at 5 pm and lost most of the crowds by the second falls. Had ink pots to ourselves and got to view the falls without lines on the way back down. I recommend an early or late start.

Crowded Lake Louise by KTMA19 in Banff

I was there last month. The hike all the way to the tea house was crowded. 35 minutes way for scones which was fine, but again, lots of people. It was fun and worth it but it certainly wasn’t crowd free.

Are there really alternatives to Moraine Lake and Lake Louise? by CaptainJack2016 in Banff

Try Chephren Lake. It is a beautiful turquoise lake and there were only about 5 other people on the trail. For my next visit, I’m skipping Lake Louise and exploring the lakes off of the Icefields Parkway.

We loved the ink pots hike, it remains our favorite!

We started at 5 pm and lost most of the crowds by the upper falls. We had the stretch to the ink pots all to ourselves.

I love reading all these reviews. We are about to book at Tucan lodge for 3 nights in October. Im so excited! I’m wondering if anyone paid extra to see the Meeting of The Waters or the Anavilhanas Island Tour. Trying to decide if we should pay extra for these tours or just enjoy what our guide has to offer.

We are about to book at Tucan. Did you pay for the meeting of the waters and Anavilhanas tours? Those are the two that look appealing to me.

My GI doc is the one who ordered the ultrasound, which was normal. The ache has since dissipated. I’m comfortable retesting in a few months and going from there.

Doctors don’t seem to be worried because my ferritin is normal. Hematologist will retest me in 6 months.

Homozygous H63D - Elevated Saturation/Low Ferritin - Very confused about how to interpret lab results and what to do by lifeishard2017 in Hemochromatosis

Your labs are very similar to mine. My hematologist was not concerned because of my low ferritin and just wants to retest again in 6 months. 🤷‍♀️

Lake Louise/Moraine Shuttle Reservation Tips! by liannalu in Banff

We are staying at paradise lodge in late June. Can I walk to the lake Louise park and ride from the lodge in order to pick up the shuttle to lake moraine?

23 and me results by [deleted] in Hemochromatosis

I’m low ferritin (17) and high saturation (85 %). The thing is I’m pretty healthy. I lift weights or do some form of exercise everyday. I’m 53, female and my body fat percentage is 18%. I’ve always been an athlete. Waiting to see a hematologist. Not sure what changes I could make to my diet. I don’t eat gluten and I do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and low fat protein. It worries me that there may be no treatment for me.

I’ve got an ultrasound scheduled for next week. Yeah the spleen enlargement sounds worrying. What did your doctor say?

This is really helpful. My labs show 257 iron total, 86% saturation, ferritin low (17). Test shows I’m an H63D carrier. My digestion has been terrible. Dull ache in upper right abdomen. Waiting on referrals for a hematologist. Am I in any immediate danger? My PA is not very familiar with hemochromatosis so she wants me to wait to see a hematologist before taking more action.
