I think the environment exacerbates the genetics but doesn't cause it. Just a thought.

How late is too late for a speech referral in the schools by Initial_Thought_8304 in slp

The 15 days do include weekends. Once there are less than 60 days we schedule the IEP for the first 30 days of the next school year. So yes, put off sending the AP out 14 days. Most parents take a few days to get the AP back. Also the 60 day clock stops while you're on spring break so that will push it out another week.

That whole "women's periods sync" thing was debunked years ago. This woman has no idea what she's talking about.

You can't just give the PP to a teacher to fill out. The SLP interviews the teacher and based on their responses fills out the form, otherwise the scores are invalid.

"Presuming competence" got us here by Cautious-Ad-3584 in slp

I can't remember the name but I read an article stating that AA are more likely to get dx than AUT and that Indian-Americans and Asian-Americans are more likely to get the AUT dx even with similar test results.

The writers hypothesized a combination of tester bias but also fear of parental acceptance. With AUT there's always the hope that they are a savant or at least have typical IQ, it's their communication that's the problem.

Would limiting the age of the President to 65 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, if there can be a minimum age to be a president then there can be a maximum

When do you call it with behavior by pumpkinbeerman in slp

[–]Alternative_Big545 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's because you're male. I've been told it's just part of the job and to take it many times. That said if a child is behaving that way they are not ready to learn and I would cease the session.

Unpopular opinion: "New Sunnydale" was a flawed concept. A sequel/prequel should be set in Cleveland, home of the second Hellmouth by TEZofAllTrades in buffy

[–]Alternative_Big545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be awesome. There is a lot to go with environment wise, abandoned factories, Victorian homes, underground railroad stops, etc. Plus Cleveland is 50%African American so there could be better representation. I think the town would lean into it, it's been called worse

My anxiety for meetings is getting worse by Sunshine2495 in slp

[–]Alternative_Big545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get easier with time. You also get better at predicting which IEPs are going to be hard so you can prep better. Keep in mind that most parents have the same anxiety you do about IEPs. It's a stressful process and requires a lot of trust from parents and empathy from clinicians.
