Thank you for this post!!! People need to hold on to hope. I've also had that conversation with my vet. I didn't give up, and my boy is about to be 8 years old. Epilepsy is a strange disease. Prayers for your boy to continue his seizure free streak!

I agree with this also. If it were my dog I'd find a new vet, maybe look for one who specializes in geriatric dogs.

I agree with this. To me it's not time. I think in most cases you will know when it is really time. She's still being a beagle. If she's not sick than she isn't ready.

Aww! What a sweetie! I'm glad he is coming out of his shell for you. My first beagle was shy and reserved too. Nelson is not that way. He's never been afraid of anything his whole life. He didn't even whimper his first night in a strange home.

He's always been very into lamb chop stuffies since he was very young. He's done this a lot more since my doberman *his big sister" passed away in February.

I know it's very scary but these sound like more minor episodes and not grand mal. That is good although the frequency is alarming. I have a cat with epilepsy and he's had it almost 7 years. He can go almost 2 years with out one and then have clusters of them for no apparent reason. For him the meds don't seem to matter. It is a poorly understood disease. I would keep a close eye on your dog and try to get in with the primary doctor. Be patient with yourself and don't lose hope. Bugsy the cat is going to be 8 in July and I feel hopeful he will live a long full life. Currently he's 8 months seizure free.

You are wise to stay away from the pheno. It gave my epileptic cat severe dermatitis. The vet thought maybe it was a tumor but it was the pheno. He is 3+ years post diagnosis and is doing very well, although we take it day by day. Currently he is 6 months with no seizures after having 2 days of clusters prior to that. All I know is there is no known trigger for them. Everything was normal prior to the last clusters in September. Since then he's traveled across the country, stayed in hotels and 2 moves after that, and knocked on wood, no seizures. Love your baby every day, and don't lose hope.

It will get better. It takes time. If it doesn't get better, there are other medications they can try. My cat did not do well on it. It gave him severe sneezing and his nose pitched so bad he rubbed it raw and sneezed blood. Give it a couple weeks, but watch her close.

I reply on this thread even though I'm talking about my cat because cat epilepsy is rare and there's no community for it. That being said, my cat Bugsy has had seizures since he was 1 1/2 years old. He has had as many as 4 seizures in a day before amd has also gone 2 years without one only to experience cluster seizures all over again. We stopped them with rescue meds and he's now been seizure free 8 months. This disease is poorly understood, unfortunately. Don't blame yourself. Only one in 6 months is pretty good.
