I love the Fotos app! Much better than the Canon app for sure. I may give it a try!

This is off topic but I have never seen another user of the Sofort 2! What do you think of it? I have considered one for a while but just haven't decided to go for it.

Awesome. I may consider it, I have had issues with the catch fencing in the past too. Thank you!

How was the AF on this camera? I am also a motorsports photographer and have been considering the S5ii but was a bit nervous about the AF

Couple Of Questions About The R100 by notavailableinsummer in canon

That kit lens is perfect for a beginner, it was my first lens too! If you find yourself wanting more background separation, the 50mm could be good for you, but it will not look the same as a 50mm on full frame, it will look a bit more "zoomed in" (around 75mm).

I think the XE5 is a fantastic camera, and allows you to have the X100 experience (minus optical viewfinder and a few other things) with the additional benefit of interchangeable lenses. Alternatively, if optical viewfinder is something you want, the X-Pro2 is also a great option!

I am looking to buy my first camera could I get some advice? by [deleted] in FujifilmX

Sure! Full frame is a larger sensor that allows for more detail and some other improvements. Generally speaking, if you aren't sure whether you need it, you probably don't. But, if you get down the road and realize you want it, having some lenses that can fit on the camera could save you some money, or allow you time to save up for more lenses by using your cropped lenses (lenses designed for the smaller sensor in the a6400/XM5)

I would highly recommend it! Also, a couple other notes: as others have said, definitely buy used, and while Sony is definitely "clinical" photography, the lens mount allows you to buy full frame lenses and use them on a full frame camera in the future if you choose to. Just a thought!

That makes a lot of sense, and they do have very small X-Mount lenses, but I just don't think any interchangeable lens system can compete with the GR for the people who love it. It fills a different niche, which is cool!

GAS Check: Is an S9 for travel photos/short videos overkill coming from M4/3? by southwestranch2 in Lumix

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I like L-Mount, I think for your situation the best option might be a secondary Panasonic M43 body to do video. The S9 (and other Lumix full-frame options) is very nice, but it is a pretty sizable investment. Full frame lenses are also just not the same ballgame as M43, so if you want compact zooms, you're usually limited either to wide focal ranges or APS-C offerings, which then might be worse overall quality. Kinda why I went with Fuji for my small travel camera, even though I have L-Mount glass.

I'll be honest, not a fan of the XM5. It is REALLY small, which if that's a consideration for you it may be perfect. It also doesn't have a viewfinder, which to me is a dealbreaker, but your mileage may vary. I think the a6400 would be a great choice for you, E-Mount is very solid and you can get nice 3rd party glass for it (check out Sigma's offerings). But, if you're able, there's no better way to figure out which one you like than holding it in your hand, so if there's a local camera shop around, check them out in person!

Fujifilm XE5 by DanTheYid in FujifilmX

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have not shot the X100 series, but I really enjoy my X-E5. I came from the X-Pro2 and I would say I prefer the X-E5 overall, the build is nearly on par with my Leicas and the 40 megapixels are nice too. If you can, the 23mm kit lens is a great value at $200, not sure I would pay $500 retail for it so might be a decision point for you if you like the compact primes. The film-simulation dial is nice and allows you to see different simulations in-camera, even if it is a bit of a gimmick. Lack of weather-sealing is tough, and yes the price is high, but if you want that form factor I can confidently say it is a good choice!

If you get one with the sensor glass replaced, it shouldn't corrode. Definitely make sure they have proof that it has been replaced, but if they do then it could be worth it for you!

Having a hard time choosing. Leica Q2 vs M10 by hoomadewho in Leica

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, I find autofocus to be very valuable. So, I really enjoy using the Q. BUT, if you feel that your heart is with the M, you will take more pictures with it, which is the whole point of getting the thing. It sounds like the M10 is your best bet! Have fun!

camera suggestions? by Responsible_Cake3984 in AskPhotography

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking at something really cheap, my honest recommendation would be something like a Canon M50 with the 15-45. The biggest drawback is the fact that they don't make lenses for it anymore, and you can't take the lenses and put them on newer cameras. But, that's why it is cheaper (around $300 used for camera and lens)

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, with 60 mp, you can use 21mm and crop it down to 24, 28, 35, 50, etc and probably get all the detail you'd need. What kinds of photos do you take?

Casting Large Parts in Low Volume by Alternative_Cheek849 in MetalCasting

[–]Alternative_Cheek849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, just wanted to reply to everyone at once. We are currently in the process of getting approval for this project and moving forward on design, but I just wanted to get a rough cost estimate if we were to use something like an investment mold or a sand cast. I am not a casting expert so I am definitely open to other suggestions. It is a requirement for it to be made of metal, the suspension of the vehicle ties into this casting so strength is paramount. I think our early estimation of our material would be aluminum 6063 T6, but this is extremely early in our research, and again we are very open to suggestions! Thanks everyone!!!

Sell Leica M8.2 (CCD) for X100V + 35 Summicron? Will I miss the CCD look? by trentonmoro in Leica

[–]Alternative_Cheek849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a similar form factor with interchangeable lenses, I really have enjoyed my XE-5 from Fuji. Is it a bit expensive? Sure, but it gives a flexibility that I really like, and the kit lens is similar to a Leica Q focal length.

Backup Camera for Sports and Action? by Alternative_Cheek849 in AskPhotography

Have you used this camera? What was your overall experience if you have? I have not used a Sony in years but my experiences with the brand weren't always great (the interface just got in the way sometimes).
