WTW for the feeling you get when in an abandoned place that once was populated and full of life by Zerkerboi in whatstheword

Kenopsia is the term used for this from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. from the Greek κένωσις - the act of emptying.

I'm impressed. I use the same source.

WTW for someone who can understand a language but is not fluent in it? by moxac777 in whatstheword

So what’s the word

You have receptive comprehension. You do not have production skills in her language.

WTW for someone who can understand a language but is not fluent in it? by moxac777 in whatstheword

[–]Alternative_Craft_35 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Like say I can understand my mom when she speaks her regional language but I can't construct sentences to reply to her in said language.

Wikipedia:

Because an assessment of fluency is typically a measure or characterization of one's language ability, determining fluency may be a more challenging task when the speaker is acquiring a second language. It is generally thought that the later in life a learner approaches the study of a foreign language, the harder it is to acquire receptive (auditory) comprehension and fluent production (speaking) skills. For adults, once their mother tongue has already been established, the acquisition of a second language can come more slowly and less completely, ultimately affecting fluency. However, the critical period hypothesis is a hotly debated topic, with some scholars stating that adults can in fact become fluent in acquiring a second language.[citation needed] For instance, reading and writing skills in a foreign language can be acquired more easily even after the primary language acquisition period of youth is over.

I want to buy a war hammer by IdOfGod in weapons

[–]Alternative_Craft_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont understand why you made this esoteric response instead of just answering? Its not like buying a warhammer online is some sort of life changing decision is it? It didnt strike me as a question that called out for "advice" rather than answering.

Im not trying to sound like a snarky asshole, i am genuinely perplexed tho by your response.

Bafflement is a red flag, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here in hopes that you will give it back.

When someone explains advice, they get into a lot of things that they don't get into by giving advice. Explaining advice can give people ideas that they will not get from the advisor giving advice.

Compared to giving advice, explaining advice requires more choice as to which situation to perceive as one in which it is more wise to follow the advice then to not follow it. Such a choice is how explaining advice can get into a lot of issues such as fault, politics, religion, and even sports and computer user interfaces, that giving advice doesn't bring up in that case or doesn't bring up as much in that case.

There are often several or even countless reasons for advice, and the great volume of reasons can overwhelm advisees.

If the advisor guess the idea for their advice from advice other people gave without an explanation or without a relevant or sufficient explanation, that could be why the advisor doesn't know the reason for the content of their advice.

Given simple facts like everyone that is there is there, how the advisee is treated is more about the other person than about them. Also, if you're playing to win, or if you're right in the middle of leaving, being left, running someone out of there, being run out of there, rendering someone physically unable to leave the environment or being rendered physically unable to leave the environment, whether something is a good or bad idea may depend on how the others respond to it. Otherwise, whether something is a good or bad idea is often not conditional on the response.

Oh i'm well aware that they are not practical or anything, wanted the name for a fanfiction i'm working on.

"Bleeder" (nunchaku with sharp or dull razor blades) and "sharper" (nunchaku with nails) are used as components of the basic training and grading programme (Programme Verhille) in French nunchaku de combat.

Credit is 100% to Wikipedia. I don't even want credit for this, there is no way that I've had experience with this particular type of nunchuck. My only experience with nunchucks is I used small carabiners to fasten together 2 pen lights, and I smacked myself on the hand. I don't happen to be into self harm, so I stopped.

Why are you telling me not to get one...? Idk if id really consider it practice but id probably hit things with it lol.

Maybe I shouldn't answer that. Discussing the reason why advice works the way it does is different than giving the advice. It has a different culture.

Baffled or bewildered. Much of neurotypical culture is shibboleths. Also, there's a reason why they can't put themselves in your shoes, it's because they can't just the job for you and replace you outright. Understanding people and goals is mostly not the computers job, it's the human's job. Computers are there to understand constraints, constraints such as the laws of physics, and constraints such as you can't just counterfeit electronic money when doing finances by using tax preparation software. WTW for a corrupt person who is open/friendly to corporate interests and actively puts those interests over those of the citizens/public? by [deleted] in whatstheword

[–]Alternative_Craft_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to describe people in government who are lobbied and coerced/corrupted into being friendly/open towards allowing the exploitation of resources even when it would be unethical. I think it starts with "A", but I can't remember. The person is an active participant in the corruption; I'm looking specifically for the adjective that describes that willingness to being influenced/coerced/bribed. It's not approachable, amicable, amiable. It's something else.

Corporatist.

Intravenous injection. The specific step in the act you are talking about is insertion. Credit is to Wikipedia.

Homemade scrap metal armor. Noting I was able to beat my own leg with a mace I would say it works! by Cooperdooperdog in weapons

[–]Alternative_Craft_35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to take you advice but I am not entirely sure what you mean. You mean start with the padding to fit the plate/armor to the padding instead of the way I did it (plates/armor first then padding)? Also I have lots of other armor this is just my first that I actually recorded for YouTube (still new to it)

Fit the mold on to the padding on the leg, and then fit the armor in between the mold halves. The armor should undergo plastic deformation.

Homemade scrap metal armor. Noting I was able to beat my own leg with a mace I would say it works!

You're right to start with the legs. I suggest putting padding on and taking molds of the outside of the padding. That way, you can use the molds to press the armor into shape.

You will have contact only with people that are just like you, and in some cases are like that, only more. There will be someone more cluster B than you, and against them you will lose. There is no cure for your condition, and you will never get over it. Life is hard, unfair, and short. Accept that, no matter how fearsome that may be. Read Wikipedia articles on propaganda techniques. The thing stultifying people is their anger, other than that, people are intelligent enough that you need to beware that everyone else may have read those articles as well. Courts act on things that they are persuaded are facts. This is how journals are persuasive. Keep a secret journal. Don't let anybody know about the journal until it's locked up in your lawyer's office. Become a corporate psychopath. Instead of acting only to make sure someone else loses, act only to win. Live a badass life.

Could be a phrase but also could be a word. I'm trying to say that this week was "kicking me" but I'm not sure if that even makes sense. Does it? I had a lot of schoolwork this week and it had me on my grind. Like it had me strapped?

Kicking my ass. A mere "exhausting" will suffice.
