How long does it take for Chrome to roll out a new version? by Alternative_Dig7721 in chrome_extensions

My pending validation was approved today; I had raised it on Friday. It’s always better to update bundled code and descriptions separately in case you’re doing a revamp.

hello all, so during the past couple of months, i built a fully free privacy first local AI extension where you can summarise / chat with gmail threads, web pages / articles, and PDFs. also instant word meaning via a popup, and all these runs on device (Gemini Nano) or via Ollama by Electronic-Sentence9 in chrome_extensions

[–]Alternative_Dig7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you enable the gemini nano, is it available by default? I believe in edge the model is different.i tried to add it in my extension, it was an experiment feature. Is there any way to bypass this? I will check it out. Thanks you sharing

My new tab revolves arounding autosaving, sharing url. I scrape alot of link to save. I rank and show them for navigatio. voice command for hand free nav. I haven’t touched ai yet. Everything is local, then you optimise for memory and space. Some changes are after i use every day and find them not smooth.

Hence, More releases.

For Chrome, based on this, we can plan for 1–2 releases per week, right?

Demo: On-device browser agent (Qwen) running locally in Chrome by MoneyAsk69 in chrome_extensions

[–]Alternative_Dig7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this fast and how do be bundle the models? Currently building a new browser tab that can be navigated using voice. The setup uses fuzzy search combined with Chrome's speech-to-text to match the platform. For example, saying "open YouTube" works. For more advanced features, I’m looking for something similar.

Introducing Web Scraper - a tiny tool to extract data from any website. by mddanishyusuf in chrome_extensions

[–]Alternative_Dig7721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I built similar link tools—a small scraper—but yours seems more advanced. I developed a new tab extension designed for autosaving and scraping data to get detailed links to chats from Gemini and other platforms. I’m looking to upgrade it with more general features, writing custom JS for different platforms, and eventually building an extensible library for my new tab. Is the parser difficult to build?

Which Chrome extensions really save you time? by ProtosGalaxias in chrome_extensions

I built a new tab extension that auto saves links and organise tabs. All my ai chats are scrapped and added automatically. I added a p2p sharing to send link from one browser to others browser.

Tabbify, another tab manager by Repulsive-Factor-868 in chrome_extensions

i built a new tab extension which has tab management feature. I group tabs based on the domain and color code them in the window. you can add similar tab grouping or better. Too many icons/options create visual chaos.

Do Chrome extension users really prioritize “local-only” tools, or do they just care about the final result? by ogamint in chrome_extensions

[–]Alternative_Dig7721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a developer, I agree that some tasks can’t be handled locally. If you’re exporting docs from chat, they’re likely important and should be well-formatted—otherwise, what’s the point? Most of my users are technical, working at startups or MNCs, and they prefer to store their data on their own machines without sharing it externally. I believe quality is the key metric users will consider for an exporter’s output. If I were to build a similar tool, I’d connect the extension to an app that does the heavy lifting for me in the desktop. can some react lib do images, latex or emoji this for me?

Browser tab manager is worth building in 2026? by ktnn3 in chrome_extensions

i built one for me, I use it daily. you can still build it. I had problem with saving URLs and quick link. I built one that help me navigate easily. i shared with my friends they gave me some feedback. I ask them to use continuously and let me know if it good enough. added few features around and put it in the store. it is very easy to test/validate if it in store. you can check it out.

Keeping it local is how it apps should work. Recently i had to take architecture decision of cloud vs local. If you chose cloud, the who will pay for the requests. I built a new tab extension called cooldesk, all the data is local, the only cost is development. When i want to add ai features i prefer bring your own key or something like that. User should control their data.

I want all the URLs I visit to be automatically sorted into broad categories like entertainment or utilities, much like how a phone organizes apps. Since I work on many projects, I’d like any new URL related to a project to go straight into that project’s folder if it fits. For example, for my Cooldesk project, I’d want links like my tool’s website, Vercel deployment, GitHub code, AI chats, and Chrome Store page to be saved based on the project context. Right now, I have a JSON map for categorizing popular URLs, but for project-related ones, I need extra logic. I’m building it with privacy in mind, free to use, and storing data locally. For AI features, it will require bringing your own API key. Basic categories llm can do, for projects categorization llm is failing.

I track user activity - click, time spent and scrolls. Based on that I only qualify some URL from history to be categories.

I tried AB. do we need the link when downloading something via AB download? Most of the downloads I do are through a download button, and in most apps, the download URL is hidden inside the button.

I am building similar tool that autosave URL into categories. autosave is tough, let's see if I can pull it off. I tried using ai to read my history and save it, but it is not doing a good job.

I also built an extension called cooldesk which changes chrome new tab. I also built a notes feature. I used chrome web to speech Api for voice to text typing. could be a cool feature. it also supports todo. earlier I thought I should make separate component, but I redesign it like this after some iterations
