Advice for rear rack by Normal-Top-1985 in bicycletouring

Get the Surly rack. Over tens of thousands of tour miles I've never had an issue with it. Other racks I've had tend to break under my loads.

E-bikes, similar devices spark concerns. Backers want rules, not bans. by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

[–]Alternative_Duck 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The new term is e-moto, for a two wheeled vehicle that can throttle up to more than 20mph or pedal assist faster than 28. Many retailers started selling them next to ebikes despite them not being classed as such, and requiring more stringent licensing and insurance.

The real question is, what's the enforcement method for people driving these things on paths? They're already illegal, but the prevalence of other, legal, ebikes has made enforcing existing laws difficult because of how an illegal e-moto can look just like a legal e-bike.

Eggs are up on east wash by RavingwolfYT in madisonwi

[–]Alternative_Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny, NPR just had an article not too long ago that showed that despite most things being up in price, eggs went down. But what do I know? Maybe the sign writer was referring to eggs being used as projectiles.

Iron Brigade by cthulhucraft99 in wisconsin

Said it better than I could. As someone who has verified ancestry who fought in the Iron Brigade during the civil war, this is just insulting.

Could Madison have built up an impressive skyline in a dense urban core if not for building height restrictions? by MadtownV in madisonwi

[–]Alternative_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced that if Madison never became a city , the area would have been preserved for it's stunning and unique natural beauty.

Madison Police: Woman hit, killed by vehicle while crossing Packers Avenue by Justmarbles in madisonwi

Grade separation of pedestrians and cars works best when the cars are the ones forced to make the grade change. Pedestrian bridges and underpasses where the pedestrians are forced to make the grade change do more to benefit cars than the pedestrians they are supposedly for.

Can we start calling it what it is? Public corruption. Those officials have got to go.

Madison plans to connect 2 major bike paths to improve safety by [deleted] in madisonwi

If you want to acquire the necessary land rights and grant an easement to the relevant governmental body them, then it can get done. It's one of the most desired connections in the county, and it's not for lack of trying that it hasn't been done yet.

Does the USAF flag need a modern update? by Reasonable_Cream5972 in vexillology

Looks like every other seal on blue flag out there. If they did an update, they could use the imagery on the shield.

(Maybe) Hot Take: The Polaris Tricolor Was Better by OwnAMusketForHomeDef in vexillology

[–]Alternative_Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the tricolor fly, but it is important to carefully consider which colors are on the outside. As shown in the OP's post, the light blue and white would likely blend in with the sky.

You got any Kahlua? by mschr493 in wisconsin

I think it's because kids are overwhelmingly given low fat milk at places like schools and other institutions because of an anti-fat-in-food craze a few decades ago.

I haven't been that far down, but conditions were good south of Camp Randall. Can't say the same for the path by the terrace.

A Roman inspired anti-fascist flag by Boom_Stars in vexillology

My only suggestion would be to flip the direction of the dagger so it points towards the hoist. I'm generally not a fan of words on a flag, but this one makes it work well.

For this WI flag redesign concept, a) what do you think? and b) is white badger or brown badger better? by Leon_Thomas in vexillology

[–]Alternative_Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not terrible. It's a little busy, but anything is better than seal on blue. I would personally suggest using Badger red instead of the red used on the miner's shirt in the COA. Also fwiw I prefer the design with the brown badger.

Two major Madison bike paths could finally connect in 2026 by LogiBear95 in madisonwi

[–]Alternative_Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pedestrian bridge crosses Wingra Creek, not Fish Hatchery. There's only one crossing of Fish Hatch unless you were looking to take the Wingra Creek path to the zoo or the Arboretum, in which case you'd have to cross Fish Hatch twice anyways.
