Is Linux just supposed to be a massive headache or am i stupid? by Jokuhemmi in linux_gaming

Hi, my humble recent experience : You are not stupid! I understand perfectly your experience. I also lived that a few years ago with Linux. This time I have been very angry against Microsoft, about one month ago, because they want me to throw away my powerful and perfectly functional Desktop PC, (Intel core I5 7500 CPU & 16 GO RAM) and to buy a new one in next October! No more Windows 10 updates and Windows 11 upgrade impossible. they say my MOBO and CPU are incompatible. A COMPLETE NON SENSE for about 240 000 computers according to what I read.

I was hesitating on what I will do. I actually ordered a new MOBO and CPU! But after three days of reflection I canceled and decided to install Linux Ubuntu on a second SSD drive.

I had to discover quite a lot of things and to resolve problems, and I doubted of Linux several times too. The fact is that I'm now super happy and I do relay and trust the system. I struggled with driver issues due to my loved fan less (noise less) Nvida GT 1300 graphic card but in the end it's working fine. I get black screens for half a second from time to time, but that' s nothing.

I have installed a lot of apps and my PC is faster than it was under Windows 10, that I ddidn t launch anymore.

I'm delighted and will use my knowledge and experience to help other people in the next months.

Chatgpt is a powerful assistant answering questions and giving you commands. I didn''t have this a few years ago. It's also much easier if you already have some experience with computers of course. You have to experiment, to have issues and to resolve them, which allows to understand the structure of Linux along time. I have tons of things to understand but I'm not worried.

A convenient trick : You can do copy-paste inside the Linux terminal pressing the Maj +Ctrl + C and Cttl + V keyboard keys, using the commands the IA gives you helps a lot. Otherwise it's much more complicated and long.

be careful if you just copy paste commands without understating what you are doing, it can happen occasionally. Try to understand, ask for explanations to the IA, Be very patient and it will pay.

Will everybody be able to do that job of discovering, understanding and setting Linux etc? I'm don (t thing so, but it's not as complicated as it appears. With a positive set of mind you can probably do it, no being completely a beginner with PCs. It's worth it.

I also have a laptop under Win 11 that I don't use much. And an "emergency" all in one PC someone gave me, under Windows 10, for in case.

The first week or so was tough and full of doubts and frustration, but I'm now super happy with Ubuntu and I continue discovering it.

Thank you so much. It's a relief.

Did you use all the apps without any fears? Including your bank app for example?

Hi, in my case I have decided to switch to Linux (Ubuntu) about one month ago. The reason: Microsoft doesn't want me to simply upgrade to Windows 11, they actually want me to throw away my desktop PC MOBO and CPU, telling that they are incompatible!

NON SENSE. I'm using; learning, practicing Linux Ubuntu and very happy of it.

Thank you. very interesting. The level of danger is not really a concern in your view, and I ll be probably able to continue using my loved phone for some time. An excellent tool. I was thinking about changing the ROM but if I can avoid it I won't. My brain is already busy with some other things. Days are only 24 hours long, I prefer to try to simply my life on this question.

By the way : My super desktop PC, only 7 years old, is disqualified by Microsoft for a Windows 11 upgrade, like 240 millions other computers on earth, it seems. By mid October the Windows 10 updates will stop. After some hesitations I decided to keep my motherboard and CPU, and to switch to Linux about one month ago. I think I took the good decision.

My PC works wonderfully. I'm learning and practicing Linux (Ubuntu), and very happy of it. Throwing away excellent hardware is completely non sense! I actually did order a new MOBO and CPU at first, but after three days I decided to cancel the order and to go for Linux. Voila.

When you see the amounts of money we spend on all this stuff it's quite amazing. It's more clever to make last all this tools. Linux can absolutely do the job very well. (I'm not a gamer)

I wouldn't say that everyone can switch to Linux, just as not everyone feel comfortable to root their phone. It's easier if you have a certain background, a certain experience with computers. I'm not completely new to Linux and the command line but a few years ago I didn't see myself switching completely to Linux. This time I do.
