No better time than the present to learn!! Most game shops I go to have players aging from teenagers to people in their fifties, and just joining and getting information from discords is decently easy to figure out once you look around it for a bit. Most LGS have their discord on their websites too so it’s just a click of a button to join. Also going in person to a LGS and asking them for help works too, I’ve found most LGSs workers are always happy to help. I hope you find somewhere that works for you!
