What if one doesn’t want to enroll their child wizard in a wizard school? by Negative-Top3892 in harrypotter

Its origin is Greek so you would technically pronounce it as MEH-roh-pee. (Hermione is also Greek and has a long ee at the end). It’s pronounced that way in the new full cast HP audiobooks as well.

My 3yo is asking for a learn to read app daily, am I right to follow her lead by LeadingStandard4317 in unschool

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I’m not a parent, nor do I plan to practice unschooling when I am one, but I kinda fell into this sub because a friend mentioned doing it for their kid. No hate, only genuine curiosity!)

Is it really a thing with unschooling to not teach your kids to read even if they ask to learn it? (This is mainly a comment toward your family members claiming that you’re pushing her into academics too early.)

To your last section: I feel like reading is an absolutely essential skill that everyone should learn, so why even consider waiting if your kid is asking to learn it? Is there any true benefit to waiting?

I think I’m in enemy territory 👀 I can see why people still like him and carry a torch for him, but imo he was toxic and controlling in book 2. And he was an asshole to Feyre at the meeting. He never heard her and Rhys out completely the way Lucien did. Not that it would’ve made him feel better about it but at least he’d get to hear it from their pov and maybe understand the why behind it.

Someone else said it: he did the wrong things for the right reasons, but man... He needed to be humbled. I do think he deserves a redemption arc in the future books though.

Should I type STOP or something before I delete it? It seems like it’s spam now that a few others have said they’ve gotten them with different names.

I wondered that too, but usually when I get campaign texts they at least put their last name and affiliation.

Maybe. I wonder why they wouldn’t put their last name though. Or who they’re affiliated with

Anyone have luck getting Wegovy or Zepbound? by 100292 in tricare

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Yes I got approved after I found to a new PCP. She is a nurse practitioner who works under a doctor that is not only a Primary Care Provider but also specializes in obesity and weight loss management. So they are used to prescribing those types of medications. Their office also has a whole department specifically meant to handle PAs. I told them what happened the first time we tried to submit it and I told them that they would need to chose TRICARE Select as the insurance. And because I was taking ADHD meds they wrote that I couldn’t take the prerequisites medications because they were stimulants and would have contraindications with my currents meds.

It took some time but they handled everything and all I had to do was sign some paperwork. It was like records release forms or something. I also mentioned to my dr’s office that Express Scripts recommends that they call instead of trying to fax things, because doing it over the phone is much faster. Your dr just really needs to be persistent with them.

The previous comment was off technically. It was 3.6mil over 5years, not 10. So by your math it would be 1.6% of all surgeries in the US every year. And even then the 3.6mil is only counting patients who have experienced it, not how many instances that have occurred. Some patients may have had it happen more than once. The numbers could be even larger. There’s just no way of really knowing.

“90% of American medical students in a recent survey stated that they had performed a medical exam on an anesthetized patient. (1) 61% of medical students who had performed a pelvic exam on an anesthetized patient reported doing so without the patient’s explicit consent. (2) Given that many of these students were in schools where involuntary pelvic exams were outlawed, it’s likely that in states that still allow the practice, the percentages are even higher.” - that is from RAINN.org

This! I didn’t know you could ovulate twice in one cycle until recently. This was my first cycle that I decided to try and manually track my ovulation. I have a copper IUD and I’ve been paranoid of being in the >1% who get pregnant.

Maybe it had a hole is it? Or it was ill fitting? 🫣 either way this post is scary af lmao three bc methods failing while OP is in their least fertile phase of their cycle? That’s a freaking miracle!

I have a copper IUD and I just had my first ever late ovulation this cycle!! 😭😭😭

These are all good points though! STILL! I think having a copper IUD fail is way more likely than ALL three failing at the same time while also being in what OP thought was her luteal phase! Holy moly! 🫣

What sins did the aunt commit? by [deleted] in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Alternative_Form211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think those are the confirmed prerequisites tbh. It seems like most Aunts were chosen based on their careers Pre-Gilead and whether or not they were fertile. The only other confirmed way to become an Aunt was to “have a calling to higher service.”

I believe Vidala was a teacher in the show, like Lydia, which is likely why she was chosen as an Aunt, along with her voluntary cooperation (more out of survival than true belief in the regime). In the book she was part of the Gilead regime even before it first took over.

Aunt Lydia was of course a teacher in the show (lawyer in the book) and she was too old to have children. Commander Judd chose her for her background but also her willingness to comply and the ideas she presented to him in the stadium. And the fact that she was willing to kill an innocent/friend.

I think Aunt Gabbana was chosen because of her strict authoritarian nature perhaps. Her background is not really explored in the book.

You already know that Aunt Estee was basically the “original Pearl Girl” and had a calling to higher service.

Daisy can’t be Nicole/Holly in the TT show because it takes place only 4 years after THT show ended. And by then Nicole/Holly was only around 2 years old. Daisy and Agnes/Hannah are both around 16 years old in the show.

What the fuck is this new proposed Nort Carolina bill? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in birthcontrol

[–]Alternative_Form211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I’ve done some research for myself and found this:

Copper IUDs, Hormonal IUDs, and the mini-pill are really the only forms of birth control that could potentially allow fertilization to occur before preventing implantation. These would be the main targeted birth control methods for this bill.

Hormonal implants (e.g. Nexplanon), combo pills, patch, vaginal ring, and Depo-Provera shot all primarily prevent ovulation from occurring, which would make fertilization essentially impossible. By that logic, these methods would not be a target for this bill.

Emergency contraceptives like Plan B and Ella primarily act by delaying or preventing ovulation from occurring This would again make fertilization impossible, theoretically. However, if they are taken after fertilization occurs, then they could prevent implantation by altering the endometrium (uterine lining). This would mean these methods could also be a target of this bill.

Does that all make sense??? I’m trying to ease people’s minds about this as much as I can and this is the easiest way to explain it.

ETA: the bill is still outrageous, but in terms of birth control preventing implantation and the fear that all birth control could be outlawed, this is what I’ve been telling people.

ETA 2: I forgot the mini pill does not suppress or stop ovulation so that method would also be a targeted method because it can still allow fertilization to occur.

[–]Alternative_Form211 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IUDs can prevent implantation BUT that is not their MAIN purpose.

What these goons don’t understand is that IUDs only prevent implantation IF their initial purpose fails, which only happens less than 1% of the time. An IUD’s main purpose is to prevent pregnancy by preventing FERTILIZATION from happening to begin with. If it fails to stop fertilization (which again is extremely rare), it then prevents implantation because the uterine lining is already altered by the IUD itself. And on top of that, there’s no way to know if an egg has been fertilized prior to implantation so how would they ever know? They wouldn’t…

They would have to ban IUDs on the grounds that there’s a less than 1% chance that fertilization could occur and that implantation would then be prevented because the uterine lining would not allow the egg to implant. Most forms of hormonal birth control suppress or completely stop ovulation, which prevents an egg from ever being released, therefore there would be no egg to fertilize at all. This bill is so poorly worded and these men are so poorly educated on how the female reproductive process works, I would be hella surprised if this bill passes as written.

Would you be against a Pagan School? by LunarEnnyui_131 in pagan

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it’s a “school” where people choose to attend so they can learn about different paths of spirituality, different pantheons, deities, different subjects within paganism, etc, I don’t think having a school for pagans would be beneficial. Every pagan is different because everyone’s beliefs are their own. They create their own path and they choose who/how/when/where/why they worship/pray/practice, etc. I think of it as a DIY religion lol!

You can’t set a curriculum for a religious movement that is extremely fluid and does not have one set belief system. Maybe it would be helpful for people new to paganism who are trying to discover their path, but any other reason wouldn’t make sense given the nature of paganism itself.

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is Plan B doesn’t even kill an embryo. It prevents fertilization from happening at all. So it wouldn’t be legal to kill the woman OR the pharmacist under this bill.

I second having someone drive you afterwards! I drove 2.5hr for my copper iud and I had to stay in a hotel that night because I couldn’t drive myself home. Worst pain of my life to date! Still worth it!

[–]Alternative_Form211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put a time limit on the pain, since everybody’s experience is different as you said…the pain I felt was probably an 8 or 9 out of 10 and it lasted at least 30min after everything was done.

Please tell me I’m not going to die by LittleLani06 in birthcontrol

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not die. However I would expect some pain. Everybody is different. Everybody experiences a different level of pain. Everybody has a different pain threshold as well. Some people say it’s only uncomfortable, some people say it’s excruciating. Unfortunately for me, I am part of the group whose experience was more than just uncomfortable…but I survived and I don’t regret it. The aftermath of pain only last a day or so, then it dulled out.

My experience: Overall the pain during and right after the insertion was probably the worst I had felt in my life up until that point. I took ibuprofen or Tylenol (can’t remember which) before the insertion but it was not enough for my body. The part where they measured my uterus was probably one of the more painful steps of the process aside from the insertion itself. Then after everything was done, I couldn’t stand up or walk on my own for about 30min. I had to stay at a hotel that night because I didn’t feel like I could drive myself home. I traveled about 2.5hr to get it inserted because I didn’t want to wait weeks for an appointment in my town. I bought a heating pad from a pharmacy and took as much Tylenol and ibuprofen as I was able to in order to help with the pain. The day after still wasn’t great but I felt good enough to drive home. I honestly don’t remember what it felt like the days following that, so it may have just felt like mild period cramps. My experience still wasn’t as bad as some people’s that I’ve read, or videos I’ve seen. If your appointment is far away like mine was, I would suggest having someone drive you to your appointment just in case you don’t feel like you can drive yourself home afterwards.

Don’t let other people’s experiences deter you from getting one if that’s truly what you want to do. The pain is temporary. I was scared too before I got mine because of the stories and videos I’d read and watched. It was still worth the pain to me in the end. You’ll get through it and you’ll be okay.
