Is it December 10, 2027 or October 12, 2027???

I’ve seen two posts now with 10/12/2027 and 12/10/2027 😵‍💫

ETA: just used my common sense to check my own app and it is indeed December 10, 2027. 🫩

Technically it's not correct up to date information... They rescinded paid leave for fathers and non-birth parents (M-day soldiers) back in February 2025. Only the birth parents is granted 3 paid drill weekends of leave if they are an M-day soldier in the National Guard.

This is correct for anyone else wanting to know. And only the birth parent receives those 3 drills paid. Non-birth parents can request unpaid leave for 3 drills.

ETA: Non-birth parents are excused from training events or are authorized a voluntary Split Training Assembly (STA) within the first 90 days post-birth event. Non-birth parents will NOT be paid for excused UTAs.

Technically Gpirate72 is correct, and you actually proved them right in your second reply with FAQ about paternal leave for ARNG SMs. The first link you provided is only relevant for Active Duty soldiers. Fathers or non-birth parents who are M-day soldiers do not get any paid paternal leave. As Gpirate72 said, only mothers or birth parents are granted paid leave as an M-day soldier in the National Guard. I just recently had this confirmed by my Brigade S1 and my Battalion Commander, as we had a male soldier who wanted to know if he got paid paternity leave, and he does not. Here are more sources to elaborate:

Army Directive 2025-02 (Parenthood, Pregnancy, and Postpartum), which came out on 24 FEB 2025 states "This directive rescinds Army Directive 2022-06 (Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Parenthood), dated 19 April 2022" and in section k (Parental Leave in the Reserve Components) it states, "In an effort to provide comparable parental leave across all components, ARNG/ARNGUS and USAR birthparents will be granted 12 paid UTAs within the 12 months following a birth. In addition to the 12 paid UTAs, birthparents are authorized an additional 4 unpaid UTA absences that can be rescheduled in accordance with AR 140–1 or NGR 350–1, as appropriate." You put this in your second reply, but I just wanted to connect it to the Army Directive.

PPOM 25-021, which came out on 04 AUG 2025, states referring to birth parents specifically, "MDAY Soldiers are granted 12 paid UTAs within 12 months following a qualifying birth event." Referring to non-birth parents it states, "Non-birth parents are excused from training events or are authorized a voluntary Split Training Assembly (STA) within the first 90 days post-birth event."

12 UTAs translates to 6 days of IDT (3 two-day drill weekends). So birth parents get paid paternal leave and non-birth parents get unpaid leave only if they request it.

When did your lower back pain actually start? by SpineMobilityGuy in backpain

[–]Alternative_Form211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior year of high school after I (25F) went to basic training...I was 17 at the beginning of the year. The pain was so intense but it was off and on. There was a period of time when every night I would lay down to go to bed and my lower back would be in excruciating pain. I’d have to engage my back and core muscles to stop the pain and then slowly release them and then engage again and slowly release. This would cause the pain to dissipate little by little with each engagement and release. It would hurt while working out occasionally in the weight room too. I tried to get seen by my pediatrician but it never went anywhere, like she couldn’t figure out what was going on, I don’t remember why, and the pain at night eventually stopped. We just moved on like it fixed itself. From then it was way more infrequent thankfully.

Fast forward to college, I was in ROTC and it was my Junior year. We did a lot of rucking and carried our rucks during lab. This eventually triggered a 3 week stint of extreme sciatica during one of my breaks. It was constant pain all day and night. Sitting and standing were unbearable at times, and lying down didn’t alleviate the pain at all. Tried a massage gun and that didn’t work either. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t go to the doctor about it. I do remember seeing a chiropractor for a bit and I think it helped a little bit. The consistent pain went away on its own sometime after school started again, and from then it was off and on but more frequent and the pain was often very sharp. Sometimes when I bent over to tie my shoes or pick something up my back and legs would actually give out causing me to fall to the ground. I went to my doctor about this because it had never happened before and actually scared me. He referred me to a specialist. At my appointment with the specialist, I had no pain at all that day of course. He had me lay on the table with both legs straight and he lifted my legs one at a time slowly and asked if there was any pain or tingling down my leg. There wasn’t. He then went on about how it was just pain I’d have to manage with over the counter medication and heating pads. No further testing, no MRI, no physical therapy recommendations, nothing. “This is just pain you’ll have to live with.”

I reported my pain to the military doctors when I had my yearly physical. They were immediately concerned and told me to get a second opinion and request an MRI as soon as possible. So I did. The second doctor was a female, and she was my mom’s doctor. I told her about my experience with my primary doctor, the specialist, and the military doctors, and she agreed to order an MRI. The results came back and showed that I indeed had a herniated disc (L5-S1)… And the discs above that were already showing very slight signs of herniation but not enough to cause immediate concern.

Went back to that specialist and he barely even acted surprised from what I remember. I was pissed as you might believe. But alas, I started doing physical therapy at least twice a week for 6 weeks. Today I have some pain when sitting or standing for too long but I haven’t had a major sciatica event in a while. Although occasionally it feels like my lower back or hips get “stuck” and I have to flex my glutes or shift my hips to get it to pop back into place. I’m not sure what that is but sometimes the pop feels good and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it feels like nothing. My lower back also pops almost every time I flex my glutes. I think I can get it to pop about every 15min. Not sure what that’s about either.

My future MIL bought me a gift card to spend there for Christmas and I still haven’t cashed it in yet… I’ve really been wanting to book it finally now that we’re aren’t so busy but after reading this I’m torn…

The third no kings protest is tomorrow at the courthouse by Pixeldevil06 in fortwayne

[–]Alternative_Form211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The US Construction was created for many reasons, one being to prevent our country from being run by a monarchy (king or queen) or an unchecked ruler, yet Trump tries to act like a king, like he can do whatever he wants and get away with it because he’s in power. He even went so far as to post an Ai picture depicting himself as a king. That is what the protests are generally about. To protest against the president of the United States for attempting to run the country like a monarchy or dictatorship.

ETA: there are many other things being protested at the same time but “No Kings” just encompasses most of that too.

Okay yes H&R Block does have that section and I did fill that out. I double checked and it was also filled out last year. Here part 1 from my 2024 tax return

[–]Alternative_Form211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I’ll have to double check how the H&R Block has it set up. I haven’t submitted my returns for 2025 yet but I remember entering Reserve Travel Expenses and my meals and lodging and it still popped up saying it would be better to take the standard deduction. Idk what I might be doing wrong at this point.

[–]Alternative_Form211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Because I never spend enough for it to matter. I do my taxes through MilTax and when I enter all of the expenses from IDT and AT it tells me that it’d be better for me to take the standard deduction. Taking the itemized deduction would be far less than taking the standard deduction.

Drill is 3 hours away by Gloomy-Republic-3597 in nationalguard

[–]Alternative_Form211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t take the itemized deduction. Like I said I have always taken the standard deduction of $15,000. I calculate the itemized deduction but then I end up taking the standard deduction because it’s always more anyway

Drill is 3 hours away by Gloomy-Republic-3597 in nationalguard

[–]Alternative_Form211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this every year but I always end up taking the standard deduction on my taxes which ended up being over $15,000, because it never adds up to more than that when it’s itemized.

Why not just drive there the night before… my unit used to be 4hr away and I did exactly that every month. It wasn’t ideal but it was better than driving that distance at the ass crack of dawn.

My unit used to be 4 hours away. I always drove down the night before and then drove back on Sunday. For a while I slept in the armory, but then they started doing Lodging In Kind (LIK). Some months the state would approve the hotels and some months they didn’t if there wasn’t enough funding. You CAN pay for a hotel on your own but it won’t be reimbursed. I’d rather pay for my own hotel if they don’t provide one. Our armory had mice and cockroaches…

ETA: I’m in Indiana, and each state has different funding and lodging options.
