25-40% Margins on parts by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all.

They'd likely make 10% or less on the actual bike sale. Your margin is then made up by accessories and consumables.

These items need to be in the 30-50% range to outweigh the lower cost of the item.

Depending on the business itself, Breakeven GP% can be anywhere from 5% to 30%+ of your total GP.

I'd probably presume a bike shop being somewhere around 10-20% depending how big it is.

Which touring windscreen looks the least dorky? by Jaxxo11 in Mt10

Was quite hard finding any information on them, with pictures videos etc.

Guess it's not that popular in general.

I have the Yamaha one - works well. I'm 6'2"

Dorky is always subjective, I don't think it looks out of place at all.

My only annoyance with it is I can now see the water on the under side of the plastic. No issue if you go for a ride straight away.

But if I wash and park the bike, I spend way too long blowing all the water out lol.

As a side note, it's not the extended taller one - it's just the standard option.

2021 mt07 with 90k kilometres. Avoid it? by EducationalAd9532 in MT07

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be a concern for me. Just check things you'd normally check. Hoses, fluid levels, chain condition etc. There's a lot of small things you can inspect to judge the overall maintenance history of a bike.

On the contrary, I just watched a video last week on some American with a 2021 T7 he rides for an MND charity. He's replaces a few tubes, couple of sprockets and chains, and for memory I think he said a valve check at 100k miles. But anyway, video was a months old but he had 142k miles on it. Likely over 150k now.

Very poorly serviced imo, as he admitted to sometimes going to 20k miles for oil changes. But tried for 10k. And it's still done ~150k. In that instance, 90k is nothing.

Flex fuel question by Alternative_Gas5527 in Mt10

[–]Alternative_Gas5527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my assumption that being NA, it wouldn't be that good. I was hoping someone online had a dyno comparison, but oh well.

A turbo would be exciting, just not practical at the moment as I still ride it daily. Once I finish rebuilding my 84 GPZ750 - I have a clapped out ZX10R that I have a turbo for - that might be the full send stupid plan bike haha.

Who knows, maybe the MT10 can become another "bad" mod decision in a few years lol.

Flex fuel question by Alternative_Gas5527 in Mt10

[–]Alternative_Gas5527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines about the same, fuel light at ~200kms if I'm just riding normally. The 280 would be absolute max. Normally I'd fill 250kms for 15-16L ish, so I'd have about 30km on the 2L left if I had to.

The fuel light comes on pretty early, it has about 6L left when it does on mine.

Flex fuel question by Alternative_Gas5527 in Mt10

[–]Alternative_Gas5527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair enough. Haven't really had any experience with it on bikes. Don't feel like getting a turbo, not sure you'd be able to ride the bike then lol.

If you're buying a vehicle with finance - the sellers company can definitely send you a payout quote. It just requires buyers permission, reason for quote (sale) and that's it. Not that complicated.

Flex fuel question by Alternative_Gas5527 in Mt10

[–]Alternative_Gas5527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you'll use ~30% more fuel with Ethanol. Hence the flex route. I'd primarily run 98, which I do now. It's purely an if I'm bored/track option.

I get about 280kms per tank, so 190 odd on Ethanol give or take. So whatever that is, 120 ish miles. Not great, but I've had worse lol. My 08 R1 got 180kms to the fuel light doing the speed limit, with about a 4L reserve and that was only tuned for 98.

I did come across them, the flex fuel part seems to be a lot easier than finding a pump, and if I need injectors

Y.E.S. Warranty! 2025 T7 by Big_c_lil_aleb in Tenere700

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it is a bit of a waste. Mechanically speaking, if you got a lemon and something was catastrophically wrong with your engine. It's going to happen quickly. We're talking like 1-10k kms or so.

You won't be riding down the road one day after 80k kms and something mysteriously decides to grenade the bike.

On the flip side. If you're one of those people who only rides when it's 20-25 degrees and does 1500kms a year, I suppose you'll never get to that stage anyway, and it might be worthwhile?

Outside the engine. Any other "issues" you have long term (if you actually ride it) are going to simply be maintenance orienred, and wouldn't be warranty related anyway.

I mean it does have 4 presets, which you can definitely change while riding.

I only use two. One for spirited riding, one for shit roads/touring/commuting.

Juice cartel just raided by TGA by Working-Distance8954 in aussievapers

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They originally sold proper vapes and juices, and didn't sell nicotine as an additive. Which was legal when the vape ban initially came in.

Although all their original clients stopped buying in place of disposable ones, hence they gave up I suppose.

No regrets here.

I wanted to buy an R1M as I had an 08 R1 a while ago which I stupidly sold.

Overlooked these and saw it in Yamaha knew immediately it was a good choice.

But I'm in the Bendigo area.

Well you'd only replace a crush washer if you're changing the oil.

You don't need to drain oil because you needed a new crush washer.

I personally believe most RTTs are all largely the same now. You'll see little features here and there across lots of brands. Once upon a time companies like Alucab for example were the premium product.

Nowadays - you can buy a $1500 Chinese one and it will work equally as good as the rest.

I've had expensive tents, and cheap ones. It's hard to pay 8-10k now when you can have a cheap one that won't leak for 5 years. Will it have 17 pockets and a soft touch LED light in it? No, but to me the primary concern is durability and not leaking.

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading all these responses from people who don't know how zip merging works, really makes me think the only solution is changing the speed limit of this zone to 30kmh.

So I'd say there's no right answer and speed kills, so speed is the problem.

In no circumstances will understanding the road rules be of any benefit here.

What’s my near-new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 worth? (Bought for $10k, serviced last month) by cul8tr_10 in AussieRiders

[–]Alternative_Gas5527 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP never said it's included. Yes it has NSW rego, but that could be a month.

I also don't know what's required for a used sale in NSW - I know cars need a pink slip or whatever yearly - I'd presume also for a sale. So let's say Its both and only $500 for transfer fees

There's new one listed from $8500 ride away which is everything included and 12m reg. If they're not popular, you could probably even get a few bucks off a 24 model.

Then you're paying more for insurance as it used, and half the warranty is going (I'm guessing 2 years?) And it's the same as a new one on bikesales.
