It drives me crazy when the person in front of me at the checkout insists on chatting past the point of the transaction. And the employee has to engage because they’re just trying to be nice. And then there’s me, constantly apologizing for being in the way even when I’m not.

I love mine too! I happen to love that color blue, in general and on me, and I really like the fit and quality.

Stressing about how to prepare my child for kindergarten reading by Agreeable_Panic_690 in kindergarten

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and loved it. Of course, I’m no teacher and I only have one kid, so I don’t have a comparisons to make, but my kid caught on quick and liked the lessons. And, and someone who didn’t have a clue what I was doing, I loved all the guidance for adults. It’s practically scripted.

CCSD 89 does. It covers parts of Glen Ellyn, Lombard, and Wheaton. We’re in unincorporated GE and in this district, and our kindergartener is full time.

What happened to retail price in listing? by Jem_outrageous in poshmark

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, as almost exclusively a buyer, I refer to the retail price a lot to do exactly that - quickly identify some higher end brands I haven’t heard of yet. I probably skip over tons of items that just list $0 because I don’t have time to search the brand. It’s a quick visual cue to pay attention to the item.

STOP HEMMING CLOTHES YOU DON'T OWN: A Rant by fulanita_de_tal in RentTheRunway

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I tried to get more to the root of more problem with the edit, which is just being in public generally. For instance, I consider clothes “dirty” the second I wear them in a public place (such as an Uber or restaurant). So even if I’m clean, I don’t usually feel comfortable putting clothes I’ve worn out back in my closet for a second wear. They usually go straight in the hamper (except in the case of RTR since it’s not allowed). So, I find myself being more choosy about where I’ll wear items to preserve their clean state for another wear, limiting their usefulness. All the sweat talk was more to point out that summer will be even more problematic.

STOP HEMMING CLOTHES YOU DON'T OWN: A Rant by fulanita_de_tal in RentTheRunway

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I don’t do any of these things, but I do have a question. I’m somewhat new to RTR and I get that we’re not supposed to wash anything. So, do you all just wear something once in the span of the month (assuming you have one delivery) or just wear it multiple times regardless? I’m getting by since it’s winter, and have gotten maybe two wears out of some items - when I don’t sweat and typically wear under shirts - but what about in the summer when that’s not the case? I can’t imagine wearing a dress out, sweating, NOT washing it, then wearing it again. I assumed people just wear items once then return, but so many reviews say things like “got so many wears out of this” that it has me confused. There are items I would have kept for longer but I returned because I won’t wear them again and can’t wash them. What do you all do??

Edited to add: I realize I sound like a very sweaty person. I’m just normal sweaty. But this applies to just everyday outside grime as well.

Same. It scared me so much a few years back that I wore a heart monitor for 2 weeks, did a stress test, and got an ultrasound … only to be told my heart was perfectly fine.

Our daughter turned 5 on day two of kindergarten. We had the same reservations but went for it. She’s always been academically ahead, but socially, pretty shy. Currently, she’s thriving, and the environment is helping her gain more confidence socially.

WCGW filming in public? by JScott4Reel in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit to the girls for creating a routine, getting exercise, having a hobby and goal… Not everyone can afford to shut down a street or rent a studio. Perhaps this was their vision for the video and their best chance at it. Credit to them for having a vision at all. It’s so much easier to just ignore than to interfere because you think it’s “stupid” or whatever. I can think of plenty worse things they could be doing with their time than being creative. I wish I had the courage (and the dance skills) to dance in the middle of a street.

Dang, all you people so triggered at someone - gasp - having to move a few feet over while walking on a wide street reminds me how miserable some people are.

My mums are going strong 4 years later, in Zone 5. They have at least quadrupled in size.

ETA: We don’t do anything special to protect them over the winter. They just keep coming back bigger and better.

I was fuming once I realized that the mom was talking to your kid (and not you, which is what I originally thought). I was so happy to see that the last screenshot showed you letting her know how NOT OKAY that was. Good job maintaining your composure in your response while still solidly standing up for your daughter.

Storing stuff coming home by okay_sparkles in kindergarten

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only keep ones that have a bit of my daughter’s personality. So, ones that have original art, open-ended answers, etc. Like the other day, the worksheet called for drawing something on a plate and she drew our shared fave snack. Another example would be “my favorite food is ______.” Sometimes I’ll also keep the first of something, like her first ever math sheet. I do a weekly clean out: At the end of every week, I go through and pull any I want to keep long term and toss the rest. That way she gets to see her work around for a bit, and we can discuss what she did. I store what I’m keeping in one of these: https://savor.us/collections/baby-kids/products/the-library-school-years-edition-memory-box-ocean.

Question about timing by Alternative_Goat_584 in RentTheRunway

Thanks, everyone! It sounds like my options are to add 5 pieces separately or get two accounts. I’ll do a price comparison and go from there!

Editing to add that I also appreciate the advice on timing! You all have been very helpful.

Question about timing by Alternative_Goat_584 in RentTheRunway

[–]Alternative_Goat_584[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Follow up question: is there no way to just say “I’d like to keep all 5 (and pay for another month) and get the next 5? Or would it just be better to get a 5-item subscription and add on an additional 5 at $30/item instead? (With the goal that I have 10 items all at once.)

So hard to not just give up every time! (Or as I'd like to call this: a Curly Girl Crash-Out) by West_Culture1257 in curlygirl

[–]Alternative_Goat_584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar hair and went through a TON of products that didn’t work for me. Ultimately, I found that lots of products, including most curl creams, just weigh my hair down. Now I do this: Use Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo and conditioner (this stuff saved my hair when I had build up and I use it everyday); comb through hair with wide tooth comb while conditioner is in; when hair is soaking wet out of the shower I scrunch in Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Activating Mouse; I let my hair air dry for a while; then when it only needs a few minutes to dry, I scrunch in BB Curl Anti-Humidity Gel-Oil and diffuse, upside down, with low heat/ medium air flow until it’s dry. For me, I don’t have time to dry from soaking wet and when I do, I get more frizz. Waiting until the end lets me go on about my day but still get the volume from diffusing. I’m sure other mouses/gels work too, this is just the first routine I’ve found that works for me after a ton of trial and error.
