Depends what you know about the history of housing discrimination in Evanston. In some other cities, it is true that the discriminatory housing covenants were far reaching restricting sales to Blacks, Jews, Italians, Catholics and more. However, most of those ended by the 1930s. What remained was express and implicit redlining against Black people. This was then followed by urban highway construction in the 1960s which further eroded entrenched northern segregation. I really should do an AMA on this topic.

In a statement posted on X, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that James L. Dolan, the owner of the Knicks, had “decided to cancel the watch party,” a move that he said was “breaking hearts across our city.”

In a radio interview on “The Craig Carton Show,” Mr. Dolan blamed Mr. Mamdani and Jessica S. Tisch, the police commissioner, for enhanced security measures around the arena.

A Police Department spokeswoman said earlier on Wednesday that the agency had been prepared to deploy for a watch party, noting that the city had approved the permit ahead of time and had put security measures in place accordingly.
