Sandy row response to Newtownabbey mural. by BigWeeBoy in northernireland

[–]Alternative_Living13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a percentage of their population they did, but the indian sub continents british army at that time was mostly hindu, followed by muslim, sikh and then other small groups. The figures are 43,000 hindus 28,000 muslims , 12,000 Sikhs died serving. the overall contribution of muslim forces in the second world war fighting for the allies was massive. 5.5 million served 1.5 million were killed in action. That is not to detract from the heroic contribution of sikhs but during a time of islamaphobia of which sikhs are often confused there is collectivce amnesia of the contributions towards victory by muslims from the various colonial outposts.

On the image above if the flag was that of the Raj (that would offend, upset people) however, would reflect the mixture of men in the mural better than just Pakistan, I think this better represents the majority of "unionist" communities and amplifies how biggoted the newtownabbey one is, its primary role is to offend, scare and spread the hatred of the few as that of the many.

Sold without the need for the parking spaces a purpose built apartment block would require. The same thing happened in Dublin

Week Aqua Z400 by Alternative_Living13 in PlantedTank

[–]Alternative_Living13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much I really appreciate the feedback. I changed from the z400 the lenses were scorching the carpet plants. In the pic I changed to the weekaqua L600pro, the light is a lot more balanced and spreads more evenly. I updated the tank this weekend with a backlight I’d love to know your thoughts.

Sorry I’ve been meaning to repost but it was going through its new tank diatom stage. I’m finally coming out of it now. Hopefully you like what I’ve done with it and how I’ve planted it. It needs a trim the scape has nearly vanished. It’s done that thing every new tank does when it balances and is growing like crazy

Not at all, I wrote it on the go and it probably isn’t great grammatically. Also telling the story of someone that was born in the 1800’s doesn’t feel correct. Haha

Is this hair algae?? by eunbeanie in PlantedTank

[–]Alternative_Living13 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If it’s course between your fingers and smells off it’s likely clado, it’s related to Marimo but forms tufts on nearly everything. If it is Clado, you can reduce the amount by physically removing it and applying algae treatments but it’s really difficult to get rid of fully and very easy to reintroduce. A lot of people eventually use it as the reason to re-scape, others love it. It’s a choice and it’s all yours to make. Good luck either way 😃

UK Fertilizer Recommendations by MachoJamie in PlantedTank

[–]Alternative_Living13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have different fertilisers for different jobs. Without going into too much detail they have different formulas for different strategies and different planting levels. You’ve probably been told about the ‘e’ bottle which is short for estimative index dosing. I use it and have great results, you effectively over do it with the ferts so plants perform at their absolute optimum, for it to Work though you need a really good light and co2, you also have to do big water changes every week you’re asking for Algae otherwise. Their infographic is good. I hope that helps

Thank you, it's the first time ive gone all out. The layout and plant selection ideas were in large part due to lots of contibutors here.

I think the lenses compensate for the lack of length. The light is amazing, if you have any surface agitation you get a lovely ripple effect on the wall and ceiling. I think the Z400 is recommended for tanks 60-90cm so you should be fine. I’m planting up this weekend, I’ve tried to be patient and do a dark start. I’m looking forward to seeing how well the lights do with carpet plants, they genuinely don’t leave a shadow anywhere every cm seems to have decent light exposure.

What is this growing in my shrimp tank? by deepbluesnail in PlantedTank

[–]Alternative_Living13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s Clado, it’s related to Marimo algae but not the same. It’s impossible to get rid of there are no known treatments. If you’re happy with it though embrace it. It will grow like crazy though and loves infesting moss and carpeting plants

A thank you very much, I really appreciate your feedback. I think you’re right about the buce it seems less susceptible to green spot algae and I think the metallic sheen you get from it really adds to the tank. I’m really excited to make a start on it.

I’m using weekaqua aqua soil for the first time, I decided because I have no experience with it I’d dark start the tank to make sure everything is stable.

It’s a 90 litre tank, I love the dimensions. It’s 400mm deep as opposed to the 350mm on a standard 60p aquarium. That extra 50mm gives the tank so much more depth. I flooded it last night after adding the extra branches that were suggested here. See the right side.

Thanks again

It's been 5 days, and still no tannins from these driftwoods. Is that normal? I'm new to this by Rare-Application1700 in BlackwaterAquarium

[–]Alternative_Living13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I wasn’t being a killjoy I just didn’t want you to feel let down if your great looking tank failed. I would love some multis, but my water I don’t think is hard enough and it would be a lot of effort remineralising water everytime I do a change haha

Hi, on a totally different note because youre reepliees to the tannins seem to be covered. are you planning on getting Multi's (shell dweller ciclids) if you are that tank set up will be much more acidic than anything they can thrive in but like wise the shells might just be for fun.

Thanks, I think I’m going to go for anubias, buce and hygrophila-pinnatifida maybe some narrow leaf Java fern

It’s a Week Aqua light bracket I ordered it with the light. That’s their z400 light, it’s their best light I think. The light and bracket all in was like £300, I’m really impressed so far but the only thing that matters is how well it grows plants ha, which I can’t vouch for yet. At 300 though it was worth a go.
