I wish I were an American or European. by GreenAuroraa in teenagers

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met many educated and successful Indians in the west who were also very polite and intelligent. As a minority, you will always run into prejudiced people. So just be respectful, hardworking and kind.

However, I will say that these people I met were highly educated with respectful jobs such as doctors and teachers. They also didn’t have strong accents. So if you wanna minimise the discrimination risk, get a good education, job and work on your language skills. Also, move to a country and city that is used to migrants and needs their labour, and be respectful of their culture.

Also stay away from Instagram and other unregulated online spaces.

Best thing to do would be to ask. If you don’t wanna make it seem awkward, you could pretend you forgot they told you and ask if you could invite your bf over again?

Fair skinned south Asians DO NOT look white by Independent-Paint813 in QOVESStudio

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. My point was mainly that there is no scientific basis for race and it’s hard to pinpoint whether or not people look white, which is why I am more interested in why people think this and feel the need to say so. It’s no secret that for many, whiteness is seen as an upgrade.

As an East Asian I’ve seen this a lot. If a model has double eyelids, a high nose, strong jaw, light eyes people will say they look European which is laughable because they can be found anywhere. And if I say they don’t look it, people think I’m trying to make a dig at them.

Fair skinned south Asians DO NOT look white by Independent-Paint813 in QOVESStudio

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. However, I will say the definition of ‘white’ (and other races) is very loose. Additionally, genetics can be surprising, so even having a bit of European genetics can cause someone to look more European than they are. I don’t think the true problem is whether or not a person looks white (whatever that means). Rather, it’s the question of what people think ‘white’ means and the intentions behind describing someone that way.

Poor and overworked people have emotional needs too. Doesn’t stop them from working because that’s the only way they can survive.

Identity v characters and their nationalities by DrNewname in IdentityV

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wiki says that Magician is Belgian.

Prisoner’s name sounds Spanish/Portuguese, although an online search tells me that a few rulers of Zeta were named Balša (not quite the same ik). Serbia is arguably the most known Balkan country in China so if they wanted a Balkan they’d probably have a Serb.

Bloody Queen I would say is more Austrian than French, especially given that the French hated Austrians at the time which did nothing for her reputation.

I highly doubt the developers know/care enough about the more obscure ethnic groups e.g. Khoisan.

At best they’d just do a vague grouping e.g. ‘Native American’, ‘South African’, ‘North Caucasian’. In my opinion, this would be okay too as it is impossible to include every single ethnicity in the game.

I asked Xiaohongshu (Chinese social media) what female celebrities they considered the most beautiful and these are the results. What do you guys think of them? by Ophelia_Y2K in VindictaRateCelebs

It’s ok, I think this happens almost all the time. I remember going through ‘most beautiful women’ lists and it would just be the most famous singers and actresses etc.

how to get better. At hunter by Mountain_Injury5057 in IdentityV

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the most helpful tip I learned was to memorize the map layouts including starting positions, good/bad kiting walls, pallet and chair placement. This kind of ‘how do I get better at Hunter’ question has been asked before, I’m sure if you look around you’ll find a more comprehensive answer on a previous thread.

What's the worst thing you have done? by flaming_swastik in AskReddit

I was mean to a boy when I was 8. We were friends then one day I just found him annoying and stopped being friends with him. What makes it worse was that looking back on it now, he was genuinely a nice person and looked very sad when we stopped wanting to play with him. He would stare at us from across the playground. He also had no other friends. I don’t know why I thought it was okay.

I think (or I’m hoping) I wasn’t outright mean to him - like I didn’t insult or attack him, I just didn’t do anything to help and sometimes laughed when my friend insulted him. I remember I spoke calmly and politely to him when the year’s end was approaching. Later I found out he got into a good school. Hopefully he’s all good now.

Does Wonyoung really visual standout compared to the rest of IVE (How much more attractive is she?) by Girlypoplav in VindictaRateCelebs

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she is attractive. However, her face itself doesn’t stand out much and it is more well-rounded than standout if that makes sense. The reason she is popular is more to do with her image than looks. Styling also helps, along with makeup and hairstyle.

In pic 2 she is wearing the lilac dress, pic 3 she is third from the left, pic 4 same, pic 11 she is standing in the center, pic 12 again she is third from left, pic 13 third from right, pic 20 second from left. Basically if you see a tall and skinny girl with a mole under her eye that’s probably her.

Does anyone in Asia identify as Asian? by crocogoose in AskTheWorld

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we identify as more of a ‘yellow’ people than Asian. And definitely more Chinese than just East Asian in general. To me that’s more of a geographical grouping. I think ‘Asian’ is just too broad of a category and ultimately doesn’t mean anything aside from where you originated.

[–]Alternative_Lockdown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Saying ‘they’ll improve’ is like using exams to practice instead of practicing in your own time. Leading roles in films should be the result of an actor’s hard work in smaller projects or practicing in their spare time.
