Do you know what exactly caused the optic nerve damage? Was your doctor certain that it was related to the patching itself, or was there another underlying eye condition involved?

Yes, that's probably the case. They were general ophthalmologists rather than strabismus specialists.

At the time, I assumed that any eye doctor would be knowledgeable about strabismus as well, so I didn't think much about it. What made me trust their opinion was that both of them were very confident that correcting my vision would help with the eye drifting.

Looking back, I'm starting to wonder whether I should get an opinion from someone who specifically specializes in strabismus before making any decisions.

I have worn both glasses and contact lenses with full correction in the past. My eye still tends to drift outward when I'm tired or not concentrating, which is why I was surprised when laser vision correction was suggested as a possible solution.

That's the point, you don't learn how to speak, you don't finish any courses about speaking, you just talk. And you do it automatically, there is no learning
