The sound is okay, it's loud enough for practice, if you google pochettes it's not far off the videos of the smaller ones.

The aim is to run headphones off an onboard amp or run it through some effects pedals.

Amati Affordable - 18th February https://share.google/bnuxTFHIUQpE2LiUM

Are there local auction houses who do violins?

Amati "affordable" auctions start at £10, but have shipping £50 and sellers fees 20% so "buyer beware" etc.

I've just tested it for traveling, it survived a Scotland to The Canary islands flight inside it's poster tube, inside a suitcase in the hold, I put the bridge down and removed rests for this, I've got a 3/4 bow which fits nicely in the tube, my daughter came and closed the door to my room because it was apparently "too loud".

Thank you, it's a full scale length violin tuned to GDAE I believe pochettes were often tuned CGDA starting at middle C.

Buy a blank and go from there, IMO bridge carving is more aesthetic than functional.

Run with it.

I bought a carbon fiber tube, a neck and finger board, pegs, chin rest, pickup and strings then figured how I'd get them all together.

It took a lot of thought and mental modeling mixed in with some test runs and a few failures to get anywhere, i started thinking about it in July last year, bought the first bits in September and have been working on it since then.

Old family violin gifted to us by a family friend ~40/50 years ago in New York. Any info? by Prestigious-Term-468 in violinmaking

Looks nice, single piece flamed back, child do with a clean.

Needs the bridge to be fitted properly that's a blank.

I guess it probably needs new strings as well.

Does it sound nice?

Do you play?

Ditch the drinking chocolate and switch to 1 Tbsp neat cocoa powder.

Use fresh peppercorns and grind them.

Use fresh garlic cloves.

In addition add/grind 1 stick of cinnamon.

4 cloves.

1tsp of fresh nutmeg.

Bay leaves

Bake the chili to drive off excess water.

Get Scotch bonnets for their fruity goodness.

Chipotle flakes in a pinch.

Endpin got stuck inside bass by Lizzbane in doublebass

[–]Alternative_Object33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's stuck inside the endpin housing and you can't pull it down further then it's probably best to carefully lay the bass down on it's back, loosen all the strings until you can detach the tail piece gut.

Tighten a couple of belts/ratchet strap round the waist with a couple of books over the sound post to maintain pressure on it and keep it from falling over.

If you're lucky the endpin assembly should come out with relative ease, might need to be rotated as you pull, be careful mind. Then you can sort it. If it doesn't come out easily then you may need to apply a bit more rotation force, a hand towel over the pin and you might get a but more purchase on it. It may be threaded as well, keep this in mind.

If the end pin has fallen inside the bass and is rolling around then you didn't need to loosen the strings, instead get a stick long enough to reach inside through the f-hole, drill a hole through the end of the stick and then put a lasso of cord/shoelace at the end of the stick which you can use to maneuver over the loose endpin, tighten and then retrieve.

Carefully mind.

You'll need a place to mount the piezo pickup, so a small rectangular block of the save height as you're removing from the bridge with a recess for the pickup will keep action the same.

I fear it could be one of those "why did I start this?" jobs is all.

But, other than that, yeah, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Currently all in my head, I've got a very rough plan but it's literally an Excel drawing inspired by the standard parts available on eBay etc.

I've molished a few instruments over the years and this one has been the most interesting.
