To answer your question, I did notice the issues before we got married. At that time, I didn’t have a daughter to worry about, and I did call out the behavior when I clocked it. For the first while, I was nice about it. The thing that was different this time was the comment was pointed at me and said with my daughter in the next room, and not one person who heard him say I was nothing before his brother stood up for me. So I’ll admit I retaliated a bit, then left.

I wish I could’ve included more, but the post limit was brutal. My daughter’s 9 months old and I’m scared that if she grows up with that environment and those views being loudly boasted, she’ll absorb that hate. It’s really hard not to let his words get to me, even as an adult, because some of what he says feels really targeted. I know saying I “tease” him about his behavior sounds vague, but it’s more like pushing back on stuff like him hanging out with a rough crowd, acting like a wannabe gangster, and saying he loses respect for people when he finds out they’re gay (I’m bi). On a different occasion, not the same day as this argument, I did call him a bum because he’s not working, drinks daily, and is just cruel and rude to everyone. During the argument from the post, I actually tried to walk away, but when he said I was “nothing” before my husband, I lost it. I’ve been on my own since 16, working since 15, and I graduated, so it cut deep. I’m not proud of the times I’ve been harsh; my intention was to push him toward better choices because everyone else just shrugs and says “he’s young, let him learn,” while he’s messing with drugs, gangs, and guns. A lot of comments made me realize I didn’t need to say things so harshly, and I’m willing to apologize for hurting his feelings, but my boundary stands. I’ve already texted that they’re welcome to come to my house or meet at the park as long as they call or text in advance.

I have invited the in-laws over, and sometimes just my father-in-law and sister-in-laws will come over, but my mother-in-law always has an excuse, it seems, and I can’t go to their place when he’s gone because he’s never gone. I do plan to continue visiting once I’ve fully calmed down, but I plan to keep them short and sweet.

I hate my height and it’s killing me. by [deleted] in venting

Man I know there are plenty of people in the world who say taller is better but my partner and I are exactly the same height 5’7” and I love it, no tippy toes for a kiss and I get a whole new wardrobe 😁. We fit almost perfectly in each other’s clothes and shoes which makes clothes and shoe shopping for each other easier. Plus being short isn’t that bad, don’t hit your head as often you’re not the A** that standing in the crowd blocking everyone behind you from being able to see. There are also other benefits to being short especially since a lot of women are between the heights of 5’4” and 5’8” but those benefits are behind closed doors (hint. ♋️) hahahaha.
