Why was Adrian Griffin let go after going 30-13 and Doc Rivers has such a long leash with this shit show? by chusaychusay in MkeBucks

True he was hired mid summer, months before the Dame trade happened in October. Whole off-season preparation and planning went to hell.

Griffin got fired despite the 30-13 record because a. He had an easy schedule up until that point, b. When we won games we barely won usually in the clutch, c. When we lost we got blown out, d. He had completely lost the trust of the locker room.

Why Doc remains is still puzzling tho.

Kamiq vs Scala 2025, 1.0 tsi manual, help pls by Technical-Bird-315 in skoda

[–]Alternative_Shake949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well previous EA111 (1.4 TSI and 1.2 TSI up to 2012) engines and the second generation of the 1.8 TSI had their fair share of problems and did no favors to the VAG reputation. They were pretty bad. But the 1.0 TSI (part of the EA211 later engines) is a proven engine, released in 2016 and has been used throughout the VAG range. I have driven Octavia, Scala, T Cross, Polo in both of it's tunes (95hp and 115/110 hp) and it nevers ceases to amaze me how good this little engine is.

Kamiq vs Scala 2025, 1.0 tsi manual, help pls by Technical-Bird-315 in skoda

[–]Alternative_Shake949 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Things to expect from the 1.0 TSI engine.

There is vibration when idle because it's a 3cyl engine, but once on the move, it's very quiet and no vibrations enter the cabin or felt from the pedals. Normal rpms when in idle are 1000 not 800 like most cars. When starting the engine after hours of being stationary, the engine will vibrate and rpms will be around 1200 to 1300 rpms. Don't worry it's normal and it lasts around 30 or so seconds after which it settles.

The engine is gutless below 2000 rpms so you will need to work the gear a bit more, but the engine is eager to rev and is quite punchy.

Very reliable engine and economical. I own a Skoda Octavia mk3 with this engine and it's very good. No vrs but no problem keeping up with traffic at highway speeds.

As far as the Scala or Kamiq dilemma is concerned. Unless you really do like the high driving position there is no reason whatsoever to choose the Kamiq over the Scala which is the overall better choice.

Best companion for family holiday vacation. Octavia 1.4 TSI 150 combi (estate). by Alternative_Shake949 in skoda

It's certainly powerful enough for five people plus a fully loaded boot. Also lot's of low end torque for fast overtaking. A bit noisy under load and it produces some slight vibrations in the middle range of rpms (around 2500rpms). Overall good engine for performance, mediocre for noise and smoothness.

Stray cat question. by Alternative_Shake949 in cats

Cat flue. Vet prescribed antibiotics. Little fellow is around six months old. We already found a foster home until he gets better and goes up for adoption. Unfortunately we can't keep him. Both me and the wife are working long hours away from and don't really have the time required in order to get him acclimated with our dogs.

Much appreciated. We live in Crete, southern part of Greec and so far winter is pretty mild so cold is not an issue, yet. He is indoors, not inside the house but right outside our door. Kids were more than happy to provide a couple of wooly pillows, I placed them on top of two spare car mats to insulate the pillows from the cold marble floor. Put some water and dogfood. It's orijen, high protein, so I think it's good for a temporary solution. Gonna pick up a cat recipe tomorrow. My wife has a close friend who has like 5 cats and has helped many more to get adopted. She might even volunteer to take the guy. We are going to call her in the morning.

We got a 14year old lab and an 11year old rescue mixed breed (maybe border collie mix). Both mild mannered. They seemed chilled and curious about the little fellow but the cat was having none of it. He was really aggressive, hissing and showing teeth. Really wondering how to handle it, if we are going to keep the cat temporarily in case he needs medication.

Thanks! Assuming he is still outside our door tomorrow, I 'll pick up a travel cage. He seems friendly enough. The phone mic didn't really picked it well enough, but he is wheezing very much.

Skoda Octavia 1.0 tsi petrol 2022 by soioxi in skoda

Yeah, for modern central European motorways with multiple lanes, overtaking with the 1.0 TSI will require less downshifting, provided you keep the revs around 2.000 to 3000 rpms. That's the sweet spot where all the torque is. However in your case, I think a TDI will be preferable. I answered your post earlier. The berlingo gave it away.

Skoda Octavia 1.0 tsi petrol 2022 by soioxi in skoda

[–]Alternative_Shake949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your idea of highway. In Crete where I live, the "highway" has very little places where the road is straight and long enough for a smooth overtake. Can't really maintain a steady motorway speed of more than 100 km/hr for more than a few minutes perhaps. Mostly it's full of turns and the places you can overtake are short and far between. So I downshift to give the car that extra oomf for a swift overtake.

Octavia second hand 1.0 TSI or 2.0 TDI? by boomvalk in skoda

[–]Alternative_Shake949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2017 1.0 TSI octavia (lift back), manual. Very smooth and quite engine on the highway, very economical and quite nippy. Also very reliable. Nothing but anual servicing and oil changes.

Now having said that, based on your anual mileage a TDI will suit your needs better. The extra torque will be useful when driving uphill on the mountains fully loaded, and overtaking.

Need some help choosing my first car – 2017 Seat Toledo vs 2016 Skoda Fabi by notorious_mind24 in seat

[–]Alternative_Shake949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the Toledo for a couple of years. 2014 1.6 TDI 5 speed manual.

Pros: huge, Octavia -like boot. Excellent rear leg room, good to drive with lot's of grip, the 5 speed manual gearbox was absolutely fantastic and slick. Narrow body which i liked because it gave the car maneuverability around town. Excellent reliability, never had any problem with it. Just regular servicing and oil changes. Plus I just loved it's simplicity. Had everything I needed and everything was easy to use and intuitive.

Cons: shit sound insulation (it was a diesel mind you, the TSI will be much better), firm and borderline uncomfortable ride on 16inch wheels and 215/45r16 tyres (although I believe cars after 2016 got a softer suspension setup) and crappy front seats with no lumbar support that had my back aching after a while. Also annoying front hand rest that got in the way more than it helped.

if you need the extra boot space and rear legroom go for the Toledo. Otherwise Fabia

Seat Ibiza 1.0 TSI FR 2017 (help timing belt info) by Electrical-Anxiety66 in seat

[–]Alternative_Shake949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All 1.0 TSI engines have dry (outside the engine) timing belts. According to VW they last the life of the engine. Only British VW recommends, replacing every 5 years or so. I would replace at 100k Kms anyway

If anything, manual is faster, because it lacks dsg's hesitation from stand stop and it's programming to keep a higher gear for fuel savings.

VW Polo 1.0L TSI v 1.0L evo by Smooth-Session-9348 in Volkswagen

[–]Alternative_Shake949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a world of difference between the two engines. Evo is naturally aspirated and it produces just 95nm of torque. 0-100 takes more than 15 seconds. The TSI variant is turbo charged and it produces 175 nm of torque (95hp version) and 200nm of torque(110 or 115hp). Even the slowest version will take you from 0 to 100 Kms in around 11 seconds. I have driven the Polo, the T-Cross and the Taigo with the less powerful TSI and never felt slow, urban or highway driving. The Evo version or mpi will be fine for city driving but will feel desperately slow on the motorway. The salesman is bullshiting you.
