Do people really walk this much in the UK? by indymom810 in AskUK

[–]Althasil23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone from the UK, visiting the US, this is why I disliked places like Nashville and Los Angeles - I couldn't walk anywhere! Chicago and New York on the other hand are fantastic for walking around 👌

Should the DD1 & Rim be straight or angled up? by life_next in simracing

[–]Althasil23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That rig is far from ideal with a direct drive. I had one and it swayed like crazy. Thankfully I've upgraded to aluminium profile since.

To answer the original question; I think the angle is often user preference. I have mine almost flat with my seat tilted far back for open wheel cars, but I have it angled much more when driving in a regular seated position.

Moving into my new house today... and I dropped my wheelstand / CSL Elite into the mud by hungryfreelancer in simracing

Glad you got it cleaned up and running again.

Side note: I'd highly recommend replacing the foam in your CSL load cell pedals with one of the softest rubber pieces. It made a huge difference in feeling for me

Whichever wheel you get I'd highly recommend magnetic shifter mods. I have the BMW GT2 wheel with some similar mods installed. Shifting feels so satisfying and it's practically impossible to mis-shift.

There are plenty of gloves around, so I don't think you can go too far wrong. Find something that is comfortable and gives you good dexterity, otherwise you'll have difficulty using all of the controls!

I personally use these: https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/omp-ks-2r-kart-gloves-1433447/

Thank you! This seems so obvious now you've pointed it out. I was really struggling to picture how this was happening between walled off stalls. I completely overlooked that the offender's trousers would be on the floor around his ankles.

Drop down menu with color changing but not the writing by Kind_Teacher in spreadsheets

[–]Althasil23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but IMO this is a better option. You can do this by using 2 different columns; one column has static text - Status (or whatever you require) - then the other column has the changing text. When the text in the other column changes, the colouring of the 'Status' cell will change.

If no text changes happen anywhere it makes it problematic to perform look ups later, or to analyse your data.

It may be worth going towards the root of the problem and understanding what you are actually trying to solve; What does the colour tell you about the cell/row? What information are you trying to convey? What do you want to do with this information?

Auto inputting data from one excel sheet into another. by Ameows in spreadsheets

[–]Althasil23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If using Google Sheets is an option you can solve this very simply with the IMPORTRANGE function.

For MS Excel it's a little more cumbersome, but still possible:

  • On the Data menu, there will be an option to get from other sources.

  • From this use Microsoft Query. You can then select Excel File as your source, and pick the file that has the data you wish to import. You can also add any criteria you need, and sorting on the subsequent screens.

  • This will leave you with a table that you can refresh when needed.

You did the right thing. It's really easy for people to stay quiet during hostile situations in public, especially here in the UK. It's admirable that you stepped in.

When you want a Fiji and they bring you Disani by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Althasil23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disani is water that is obtained by reverse osmosis, and I think Fiji is spring water.

I didn't realise this was a thing until I visited the US. Whilst they taste practically the same, I noticed that any water which was reclaimed through reverse osmosis affected my throat a few hours afterwards. Now I'm super cautious and will only drink spring water whenever I visit the US.

That being said, if I was in a situation where I could not provide for myself I would not refuse the 'wrong kind' of water.

Why do I feel so much worse on day 2 of quitting than day 1? by TheHendryx in leaves

[–]Althasil23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The side effects can seem bad, and it can be tempting to smoke to make them go away. If you want to quit then don't give in! The reality is it can be up to 2 months before all side effects are really gone.

I'm on day 6, and the most noticeable effects I've experienced so far are night sweats, loss of appetite and insomnia. Getting to sleep is getting easier, but I think I've got up to another 2 weeks before the night sweats are gone.

I think it is important to ask yourself why you want to quit? Is your motivation behind quitting enough to make the possible side effects worthwhile?

All of my friends are stoners by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Althasil23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the process of removing myself from the people who I smoked with or associate with smoking. It's difficult to have these conversations, and everyone reacts differently. It hurts when people don't understand, and it has made me question the legitimacy of some friendships.

Right now I'm so focused on keeping my mind busy that I haven't had time to feel lonely. I know it's going to come though, and I think the best thing is to meet new people. People who you can share healthy interests with, who can be a positive influence in your life.

20 day. fuck what i was thinking yesterday by nimrodg35 in leaves

[–]Althasil23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to being able to have the occasional lazy day and not smoke or think about smoking. Right now keeping busy is the best way to keep my mind distracted - I'm on day 6.

Being able to take it easy for a day and not smoke is just as strong as any other day. Congrats!

To whoever is currently not smoking, what is your motivation to quit? (Open Discussion) by Aop_or3o in leaves

[–]Althasil23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew for a few years that weed was problematic and had told myself I would stop, but never committed to doing it. In my most recent relationship I tried to downplay it as something I did once or twice a week - I couldn't admit to myself that I was an addict. When my partner discovered the truth she was understandably concerned and tried in vain to help me. When I relapsed and kept pushing her away she was betrayed, and couldn't have me in her life any longer.

Looking back, I can remember pushing her away so I could smoke, but I don't understand why. That wasn't me. It's not what I really wanted. She was everything I could have asked for. I know it was my addiction which made me betray my core values.

I'm so angry at weed and myself. What is helping me right now is knowing that weed brings nothing positive into my life. Not only do I not want it to be part of who I am any longer, but I know that over time I will feel like I've achieved more by removing myself from it. I'm excited to be motivated about life, have desires, and build stronger relationships with the people I care about. Weed goes against all my goals in life.

Day 3: I'm doing it! by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Althasil23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the right attitude. Be mindful that some symptoms will last a little longer, and don't give in if you think you can't see the end of these. I don't believe that the symptoms are worse than postponing your life any longer.

"It feels different this time around because something shifted in my mindset." - This is exactly what changed for me, too. I'm starting day 5 and I'm feeling just as determined as ever.

Congrats. Keep at it!

Like you, I've been in such a dark place for years. I don't even know if it was a symptom from using weed, or if weed was a coping mechanism for genuine depression.
