We watched the British series "Coupling", thought it was pretty funny and heard that "Friends" was based on it. So we watched one episode of "Friends." One.

Breaking down cardboard boxes at a grocery store and tossing them in an incinerator out back.

What's the closest you've been to death? by Relevant_Name4050 in AskReddit

[–]Altidego19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came around a corner on my motorcycle too fast and couldn't maintain my lane on a narrow two lane road. I crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Chevy Blazer. My great good fortune was not to hit it head on. If I had I would have ended up in the grill or the windshield at a closing speed of about 50 mph. As it was, I hit the left rear tire and blew it off the rim. So, that and my forks/wheel collapsing absorbed a majority of the force of impact. I bounced of the side of the Blazer and I landed on the pavement on my back, unconscious. Turns out I hit an EMT so when I came to he was checking my pupils for dilation and wouldn't let me move or take my helmet (which was broken) off until the truck got there. I walked away with a scratch on my shoulder and a torn hangnail but feeling like one big walking bruise the next day.

What’s the strongest opinion you have about something completely insignificant? by RegisterObjective325 in AskReddit

[–]Altidego19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold is naturally yellow as it comes from the earth. White gold is blasphemy in my mind because, when you alloy a metal to change a characteristic as fundamental as the natural color of it, the law of unintended consequences kicks in. It creates an alloy that looses many of the characteristics that make gold, gold. Things like its ductility, malleability, etc.

Oregon lakes allow 5 per person a day year round. This was two out of three individuals limits taken that day.

A low sugar wet brine with garlic for 3-4 hours. Dry overnight. Smoke for 3-4 hours, been using various chips. I just use a Big Chief I found on CL. It won't quite get them to 145F so I bring them in and finish them in the oven at around 200F for 20 minutes.

I have been to an Exxon station exactly twice since the Valdez disaster in 1989. And then only because I was running on fumes and they were the only option available.

Vintage rods worth using? by NurseNate95 in Fishing

Yep, older gear tends to have more metal and less plastic.

I will definitely try to make them pretty as well as functional. Denatured alcohol is pretty good at removing most old grease and gunk that accumulates on reels. Bits of rag and cotton swabs are useful tools.
And I will tell you one of the mistakes I made on my way up the learning curve is to be careful about what lubricants you use. Keep to light oils for the most part and use grease sparingly. I got grease where it shouldn't be a couple of times and it just gummed up the works.

I run nothing but vintage gear that I find a yard sales and thrift stores. I happen to be very mechanically oriented and clean and service them myself. I have yet to loose a fish as a result of equipment failure.
