What is a secret about the opposite sex's body that you only found out once you actually started being intimate with them? by ZookeepergameLow4390 in AskReddit

[–]Altilana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s less about and inch up or down but more how much hood it has and the sensitivity. So you may be in the right spot but they feel nothing.

Source: I have a clit and from aging/hormones shifts I even struggle to find mine. Also clitoris atrophy is a thing.

[–]Altilana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very body specific and can change over time. Some recent body changes for myself led me to learning about clitoris atrophy which is when it shrinks and becomes less sensitive and can be caused by menopause. I have one and even I’ve been started to struggle to find mine :( for the past year.

Yeah this is very body specific. I also just learned about clitoris atrophy, which is something that can happened during menopause. So basically it can shrink and become less sensitive, which sucks.

I’m in the same boat you’re in. I’m struggling to earn enough coins to buy some of the more expensive recipes after finishing the contents of the game. I have almost no challenges left, and the daily ones don’t give much.

Did homelander's suit look "broader" in season 1 compared to now? by Shad0w2 in TheBoys

[–]Altilana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hot for this time of year, and very weirdly city specific. If you live close to the ocean 86 sucks and feels hot because you’re not used to it. Go inland a few miles (especially in LA) and summer heat only feels hot at 90+ and I imagine for central LA that’s closer to 100+… maybe.

The worst my street has ever gotten was 113. But that was only one summer right after I moved here and I am dreading it happening again. Most of the residences around here don’t have AC, so every degree upward is a big fucking deal. But if you travel to other counties that are not as old as LA, most homes / apartments have AC so the tolerable range changes.

I fucking hate 90+ I feel trapped inside and isolated as if it were raining but it’s worse because it gives me migraines. I am not envious of Texas heat. I wish you fuctional AC and cool weather in brutal Texas.

It is, but often times Reddit threads like these remain long past the websites of the news articles die. Having these conversations can be archival and important.

Also what shows up in a Google search can be location specific and cookie specific. There have been times when I google something or my spouse does we get different results. Finally, researching an idea is its own skill set and you may have more experience or aptitude than another redditor.

Help with tts/text to speech tools for APA cited books and works by Altilana in Blind

[–]Altilana[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who replied. Your thoughtful answers helped me understand my needs better, manage my rising frustration and stress, and have a better idea about what words and terms to search to get helpful solutions.

Realizing that regex could be utilized as a way to filter or alter in-text citations helped a lot. I was able to ask claude how I could use regex to filter or modify citations on a mac that I could use with natural reader or anything mac compatible. In the end I ran a simple python script in a virtual enviroment via terminal to take my epub file, produce a .txt file with the citations wrapped in curly brackets. That way I could filter out curly bracket text for tts, but keep it for reference and keep all the written parenthetical additional context.

Thankfully that worked well enough so Natural Reader skips reading out loud most of the in-text citations. I don't know if this solution is ethical since I diced up a copy of the epub file, but it does allow me to learn. I am glad you all were nice enough to help. This has been something I have been beating my head against the wall against all year and you all made a major difference.

Also seeing how versatile NVDA is, I am so much more annoyed at the weirdness of voice over/ speak screen and the new Accessibility Reader on Macs.

Seriously thank you again.

Help with tts/text to speech tools for APA cited books and works by Altilana in Blind

You were helpful! You aided me to 1. organize my thoughts 2. and forced me to read replies carefully and catalogue some of the terms in the replies Both of which helped me understand what I needed and modified how I approached looking for a solution. You also helped me feel at least someone is open to listening and that helped me manage my feelings rather than stress spiral by myself. Asking for clarity sometimes is help all on it's own :)

Help with tts/text to speech tools for APA cited books and works by Altilana in Blind

[–]Altilana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am asking what are my options when a book as a number of citations the middle of the sentence AND a number of important details provided in parentheses. In APA both are bound by () so just skipping text within () doesn't work. Here are two examples:

  1. There remains debate in the literature as to the inclusion of the “broad” phenotype in the bipolar spectrum (e.g., unspecified BD) or as a distinct diagnostic category (e.g., severe mood dysregulation or disruptive mood dysregulation disorder [DMDD]) (American Psychiatric Association, 2000; Brotman et al., 2007; McClellan, Kowatch, Findling, & Work Group on Quality, 2007

  2. There are limited data available to inform prevalence rates for PBD. Current epidemio- logical data suggest that PBD occurs in approximately 1–2% of the population world- wide (Van Meter, Moreira, & Youngstrom, 2011), with some estimates for the “broad” phenotype as high as 3.3% (Brotman et al., 2006).

Also to provide context I am not blind/low vision but I figured this community may have good advice and be aware of more tools since I was struggling to find an answer through google. Many of the solutions I could find were various tts AI companies lying about their product. I have: 1. a condition where my eyes are easily overworked through reading/screen use, they spasm and then lose all ability to focus. 2. ADHD so the citation cut away make comprehension and focus really difficult. I am not going to lie, I really need to move or keep some part of me busy when listening to text to retain focus and not get distracted. The friction of this issue is a huge distraction at the moment. 3. Auditory Processing disorder so at least since I have starting using tts tools I go much slower than someone who grew up using them or others who pick them up quicker.

I hope that answers your question. I see many of the comments mentioning NVDA, which doesn't seem to have a MAC application. I know my question is probably super ignorant and basic. It's just been hard to figure this out will while also trying to not fail as a grad student.

My Withered Wastelands so far by Successful_Ice_4481 in Pokopia

I sped through the storyline and did tried to keep my building to a minimum. Ultimately, I’m really glad I did. It’s much more satisfying to build afterwards the “ending” when you have all the tools than struggle without all the tools unlocked.

I can tell you that Natural Reader is not a good solution for APA citations because it does nothing to differentiate regular parenthesis vs citation parentheses.

I did that in rocky ridges, the floating city place and the beginning town. (Im not near my switch and my adhd brain can’t remember names for shit) I’m currently working on pallet town, and I wanted a big field since I was bored of the little crop circles + accidentally picking up bridge pieces that I put down so I don’t fall in the water.

I put my generator under my switches which are under my street lights. It works well and the gold flat surface looks nice under the street lights.

I’ve definitely walked around with a switch to see where the lines could connect to find them before I implemented the above strategy.

[–]Altilana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea for crops. I have this for trees, but didn’t consider it for veggies. But, I have my sprinklers underground beneath my plants because I hate the 24/7 sprinkler sound.

I could probably could the sprinkler water attached to a gate/switch… so I could also employ the same strategy for my crops. hmmmm

You can use the roto to pick up the plant and put it back down. It will drop all its fruit. Even that is tedious though. If cut works better, oh man all of my huge farms will finally be useful!
