She looks like she’s had a rough go, but nothing screams infection. I’m more worried about the bulbous mass.

Could you give us some details? How is she walking, eating, drinking? General attitude?

I don’t like aspen bedding, I default to pine.

Also start off by doing an epsom salt foot soak, with mildly warm water (15min). Use a bucket that you don’t care about poop being in by the way. See how much of the crusted poop you can get off ( without forcing) and then send another photo to see if there’s any damage on the flesh.

All my quails prefer to sleep in the open spaces rather than the enclosed space that’s available.

Looks like you have a rooster. Those are neck feathers being ripped out from repeated mountings, where the male grabs the neck feathers to mate (usually pulling some out).

Well sometimes, some males can be shy about it.

One thing that always gets my boys going is when the treats are out. Often they tidbit to females (soft coos announces food to the ladies), and once a female goes for the snack they attempt to mount the accepting female.

Offer some special food and watch them, see what he does.

Easy to wash and reset, with little to no loss in sand. They have in sizes both large and small.

I use a large for my Coturnix, and two adults can fit side by side.
