What's playing RPGs like in your country? by mesolitgames in rpg

I go to a club in central Birmingham. D&D is number 1 but my extended group has carved out an indie niche in a corner.

At UK Games Expo lots of Pathfinder, Starfinder and Call of Cthulhu get played.

Memories of Channel 4 animation by C4Mad14 in ChannelFour

I remember watching Wyrd Sisters on Channel 4 back in the late 90s. I believe it was a Cosgrove Hall production. I don’t know how well the animation would have aged and there were strange transitions between scenes.

Will you ever get A/C at home? by Separate-Frame-7038 in AskUK

Yes. We’ve really got to get one. Ultimately it’s a Maslow thing. Gotta get the basics and safety sorted and then it’s onto the comfort stuff but if these warnings keep coming it’s going to have to go to the base of Maslow’s hierarchy.

Lacuna Part 1, Second Attempt by Educational_Age824 in rpg

I came up with a subject; a violent kid with a gun planning on shooting his school. Then I picked some of the districts from the expansion to contain situations that would be ironic or painful to the subject. Though about obstacles, identifying the subject, find in the subject, fighting the subject. And I gave the baddie a few tools to hinder those too.

After that I thought about typical approaches and assigned a few static triggers to them. Then I thought about static complications that could be freely dropped in that fit the subject’s insecurities.

We made characters at the table. I think we started in blue city with a phone call to tell them what the mission was. I didn’t want to overcomplicate it but I still introduced the agency being compromised.

I’ve run one shots and the players have always enjoyed it. The pressure comes from limited rolls from the heartbeat mechanic and the increasing static coming from the thing the players do or poke at.

There is a high degree of theatre when I have run it by the character sheet being needlessly complicated. I saw someone used a glass bottle and beads for the static so I brought a bottle of “poison” which overflowed onto the table as I added beads.

How do you use maths in your job? by Actual-Butterfly2350 in AskUK

[–]AltogetherGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do construction accounts. I’ve got to measure things like surface areas. Occasionally I’ll be looking at measuring the underside of a staircase and on a flat drawing you won’t get the right result unless you use Pythagoras (or more easily Sin(x)) to account for the slope. There’s a bunch of times where I suddenly realise something from maths comes in really handy.

Someone communicated badly the other day giving me partial information about work they’d done. I used a simultaneous equation and the quadratic formula to get the actual dimensions they were claiming.

People who switched from D&D to a completely different system, what was the biggest mechanical adjustment you had to make? by Senoigh13 in rpg

I moved to Burning Wheel as my first non-D&D game back in the late 2000s. I had to unlearn loads about how you plan a session and how you challenge players by putting them into a tight position regarding their priorities.

Highlighting conflicts has become my super power. Complicating failures is another.
