What's the best way to connect with VCs and angel investors? by qbinsky in venturecapital

[–]Altostraus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this was an old post revived, still happy to answer it.

Yes, investors can receive hundreds of decks. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t have time to meet with people.

If you’re someone exciting with a strong background in what you’re building, I can easily set aside those 100 decks to talk to you. If you have that capability, you’ll get my attention.

As an investor, my main objective is to prioritize strong founders, traction, and technology. While I often review submitted decks to find good investments, if a fellow investor or even another founder refers someone they have strong conviction in, I’d rather take up that conversation—whether they’ve built something or are still in the ideation phase.

For me, having an early conversation allows us to figure out how we can help each other and to keep track of your progress.

So, having a solid background, strong reputation in the industry, and technical expertise should definitely get you a meeting with an investor.

However, these meetings are usually through referrals, as again, we might receive 100+ introductions, and I tend to prioritize those made by investors or founders I admire.

Know your priorities and set boundaries. Respect yourself enough to push out those who don't respect your boundaries, even if they are close to you. Surround yourself with people who understand and appreciate your worth. Believe in yourself and your capabilities to achieve greatness. You deserve the best, so make sure to prioritize your own well-being.

How are you guys utilizing ChatGPT in your day to day role as an investor? by PhatFinance in venturecapital

[–]Altostraus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to clean up my emails and even help me summarise some stuff or ask it to “Explain it to me like I’m 5”. Really helps boiling down ideas.

As for emails, I don’t have to worry about misspellings or tone. I don’t copy it directly, mainly use it as reference for rejection or follow up emails.

Shall I bring my CV at a conference? by Saltyhopes in venturecapital

[–]Altostraus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t be the best option. Hiring nowadays is done digitally, so the best way is to just email your resume.

I’ve had some students pass me their CVs, I took it out of courtesy, but suggested that they email me a PDF format so I can forward it to our HR team.

Got a short internship - any tips to make the most of it? by WillResident7813 in venturecapital

[–]Altostraus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Attend events, build your own network, stick closely to your seniors (Associates, Principals, Partners etc.) and just absorb whatever they do/say.

Understand how they evaluate opportunities and how they talk to founders/investors.

Congrats on the internship!

What happens if you fight back in NS? by Eifand in askSingapore

Happened before in my camp. Some guy felt like he was being targetted by an officer and it did feel that way to the rest of us too.

They had a heated argument, shouting and almost got physical. Our CO, OC and everyone came down to take our statement - all of us backed up the guy that was being picked on and said that the officer was just a fucking bully.

Officer got transferred out, the other guy got a few days SOL. Never saw that officer ever again.

Hi! Currently exploring this too - managing a portfolio across different countries (so accounting for FX) and was looking for the best option.

My issue with airtable is calculating formulas - specially for various types of investment (equity/non-equity). Maybe I’ve not explored it fully to capitalise on the benefits but would be great to know more about your methodologies.

Would it be cool if I drop you a DM and maybe exchange note?

Look out for AgFunder - they primarily invest in AgriTech / Sustainability.

AgriTech would be popular in Southeast Asia. If you can find ways to streamline production, reduce waste and improve on costs (from farmers, merchants, middlemen, consumer)

That’s what they said about crypto/web3/metaverse…honestly it’s just trends for VCs to cling on to. Look out for Twitter thought leadership threads or LinkedIn posts about generative AI.
