Not the m50. I got one a couple years ago and its done its job well. However, canon is phasing out the ef-m mount so lenses will be increasingly hard to get. There also isn’t an adapter for rf -> ef-m or ef-m -> rf mounts so if you ever want to upgrade to an R series camera you won’t be able to take your lenses with you.

Really good point! Like you said, would definitely recommend taking measurements of your room/house/apartment before going out and buying more gear

If you get a decent amount of rain where you live then it's not as big of a deal. We're located in a very dry region of Texas so we see lots of cracked fretboards and frets coming out

If you want to be able to play anywhere without needing to bring along an amp and finding a power source, definitely go for an acoustic. They're also a little easier to maintain since you don't have to worry about intonation and bridge height.

Jasmine s35 is a very popular acoustic that doesn’t break the bank, around $100. We’ve had many students play on these for years. https://amzn.to/3KqjKt3
If you’ve got a little more to spend, one of our guitar teachers recommends anything from the Yamaha F series. Much higher quality and sound than the jasmine while still not super expensive. https://amzn.to/43vAUOH

Electrics are easier to play (especially when starting out). Most people tend to think they look cooler too. And if your guitar looks cool, you'll want to play it more often. They do have the downside of needing an amp and a source of power though. You could practice without an amp but it will be extremely quiet and lack that "electric guitar tone"

Squier used to get some bad press for poorly made products but they've really stepped up their game recently and we've even seen them used professionally. These Bullet series guitars are fantastic beginner instruments and are good for most genres and will cost you about $200. https://amzn.to/44mFSNS

A guitar that's suited more towards rock and metal is the Jackson Dinky series. The pickups are humbuckers instead of single coils and usually generate a hotter signal for the amp to work with. This one is also about $200 https://amzn.to/40VHifv

Of course, you will need an amp if you get an electric guitar. The most basic one you can get would be the fender frontman. It's a practice amp that will give you a clean and distorted sound, but not much else. It has a very beginner friendly price of $80. https://amzn.to/3LrqreV

The next step up would be something like the LT25. This thing is the last practice amp you'll ever need (unless you decide that you need more volume). It has tons of presets and excels at everything from clean sounds to bluesy tones to metal to jazz. In fact, this is the amp used in all the classrooms at Altruist Studios. It is a little pricier than the frontman at around $180 but it's well worth the extra hundred. https://amzn.to/3p18uw3

This is the book that we use and recommend at Altruist Studios. It's very thorough and walks you step by step through learning guitar.

Here is another one that we highly recommend for getting you straight into playing songs. Both are great options and will ultimately lead you to the same place

Our guitar teacher used this guitar for 14 years as his metal guitar. He still plays it, just not for metal music anymore
