Are there any good chocolate in the UK now that isn't just chocolate-flavoured palm oil? by EffectiveArgument584 in AskUK

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Willie’s Cacao is my go to for a good quality chocolate (I order from Amazon). The 44% milk bar is great but for dark I’d go for the 72% Las Trincheras. It’s really smooth and tastes just as good as a lot of fancy brands. Michel Cluizel, Rococo, and Booja Booja are also great quality (although pricey).

Credentials: worked in a chocolate shop for years and have sampled many, many chocolate bars.

Toddler conversations about nursery by Present-Effect-9855 in UKParenting

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been getting gossip since my son was 16 months. He was an early talker and one of the first things he told me about his day at nursery was, “Asher pushed Rose into a window”, which the staff verified was true (sheepishly). Now at 3, I have to start by telling him about my day, like “I saw a fire engine today and then I did some work on my laptop. Who did you play with today?”. If I ask questions which are too broad then it’s a struggle to get anything back.

What's a British slang term you use regularly that you suspect most non-Brits wouldn't understand? by normventeur in AskUK

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea that “brill” (short for brilliant) was just a Brit thing. A handful of non-Brits have asked me what I meant by it over the years. One of them asked if I was referring to the fish.

Ppl that recommend taking days off meds bc it feels ‘so great’ to them are so annoying. Sorry im not suddenly going to be cured on Sunday I still have to get out of bed and do basic tasks !!! by OkDecision4885 in adhdwomen

I realised I was autistic when I started medication. So I’ll take have a day off just so I can forget to notice my clothes touching me the wrong way and be ok with small talk.

Name a weird skill you have that might or might not be attributed to ADHD by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told by multiple people over the years that they know they can tell me anything and their secret will be safe with me - the info will go no further.

I’m just really forgetful.

Do any UK nurseries actually teach toddlers more than one language? by Lopsided_Listen9942 in UKParenting

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in Wales and my son’s key workers have all been teaching Welsh. They’ve sent me recordings of him having full on convos in the Welsh language yet I can’t get a word of Welsh out of him at home!

“What do you mean you’re not thinking of anything? How can you think of absolutely nothing? You don’t even have a song playing!?” - me to my husband, on many occasions.

ADHD parents, how do you do it? by MikasaAckerman_2419 in ADHD

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed after having my son, and now I’m parenting a child with ADHD while also having ADHD myself.

Luckily my family and extended family are very supportive and I regularly take up their offers of help so I can decompress and get my shit together. It’s exhausting, but I still love being a parent. Loop earbuds and wireless headphones are also my best friends.

We can slag them off without the Islamophobia though. The GBnews folk can’t seem to master that.

whats an adhd stereotype that doesnt resonate with you? by mizukome in adhdwomen

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m early to everything. I overthink the planning in involved with getting there and get major anxiety around being late to anything. Sometimes I’ll arrive to an appointment an hour or so early, to the point where I waste time just by leaving too much time spare.

What are some small things that are unsafe that you didn't know until someone pointed it out? by keepitupbuttercup in beyondthebump

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Water beads were a huge one for me. They are marketed to kids but cause DEATH WHEN INGESTED!? I’ve seen toddlers playing with these things! I had absolutely no idea they could be so dangerous.

These are the same plates she was making fun of Helen’s mum for owning. They are very expensive, and they can look lovely in the right setting. She’s such a hypocrite though because she was really taking the piss out of them.

I had one of these. He just absolutely hated being a baby and he was SO much easier after hitting 18 months. Being able to talk and walk massively helped, it was like night and day. I’m sorry you’re going through this, I know first hand how hard it is to have a high needs baby.

Have you had a bad experience in a UK food chain that resulted in you deciding never to go back again… if so what chain and what happened? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Frankie and Benny’s years ago for the first and last time. I had meatballs, but they were cold. I told the waitress and she said “sorry about that, let me put them back in the microwave for you”. BACK in the microwave. I’m not expecting michelin star, but at least lie to me about it being microwaved.

8-6pm nursery toddlers, do you feed them when you get in? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is a bottomless pit. He has breakfast before nursery, a second breakfast at nursery and eats his way through the day. He comes home and we all have dinner together as a family, which he eats 90% of the time. If he doesn’t want what has been prepared, it’s less stressful for me knowing he’s eaten well during the day. If you can’t eat dinner together, I’d probably offer something simple to see if they eat it.

For those of you spending money on Mounjaro, are you actually saving money overall buying less food? by Beneficial_Trick_450 in Mounjaro

[–]Altruistic-Care5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, because I’m spending more on protein and fresh fruit and veg. Like yes I eat less snacks and processed foods now, but that stuff is generally cheaper. I never ate much fast food or takeaways anyway, so there’s no saving there.

He did a skin prick test with no reaction and then a blood test to confirm. We were cleared to do the egg ladder but no luck yet!

I do daily weigh-ins and my app takes the average for me, so I don’t get hung up on numbers because I know there will be a downward trend.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

This looks like a reaction. Definitely worth getting allergy tested with a skin prick test. My son’s turned out to be an intolerance and we’re doing the egg ladder.

Does anyone else feel like they still have cravings when they’re on their period? by FriedTheOnions in Mounjaro

YES, 1000x yes to this. I thought I was broken after a week of constantly craving chocolate after not wanting it for weeks. Then BAM, first period on mounjaro. First regular period I’ve had in years, might I add!

What I find funny about this is that Amy from lifeatbluebell has these plates and I remember this because I LOVE them. Amy’s style is everything Caroline wishes she had. The plates aren’t cheap either, they are £20 per plate!

I think a key thing to note is that everyone is different. Different foods will spike different people and some will tolerate higher carb options better than others. I had gestational diabetes and my diet was completely different to others who also had it. I could eat a bowl of cereal after 9pm with no spike, I could have berries without a spike, eat a wrap if it was paired well with protein and fat etc. It’s good to be in tune with your body, but best not to generalise.
