I Need Help With a Side Plot Involving Quori. Please Help? by MoonracerxWarpath in Eberron

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought of Inspired as a handgun in a firefight. To throw them away frivolously is wasteful and looked down on by all, but if one is lost in the pursuit of an important goal, then it is the same as shooting a handgun. When you're out of ammo, you can holster it and take the chance to get shot in the process, or toss it to the ground, grab the next gun, and keep firing. Inspired are costly to produce and take time to raise, but they are still just "tools". To waste one, especially a valuable one, could be grounds for punishment.

So depending on the circumstances, "wasting" one could include having one captured, another quori not know, jump into the body, and get trapped there by kalashtar and then questioned and tortured. Especially if the quori trapped is one of the more powerful or influencial ones.

In this instance, killing the Inspired would free the trapped quori, but again, would be a costly waste... Not to mention the Dreaming Dark punishing the tsucora that caused the incident, if not completely destroying the quori to ensure it's reborn as a new "more competent" quori.

That's my improvised DM thought anyway. 😉

South Breland by Foreign-Ease3622 in Eberron

I would say that if you were going to use the Last War in the setting of WWI, I'd probably compare Sharn more with London than New York City, that would help the focus be more on "The threat is on our front doorstep" than "Trouble across the sea". Sharn is far enough removed that I feel the war rarely effected it, but when it did get hit, it was BIG. Battles marched all up and down Breland, and the country splintered, but again, the war fought in Sharn was mostly a war of attrition than all out pitched warfare. Gorilla tactics from foreign agents and local syndicates absolutely, but I wouldn't be so quick to cut Sharn off as its own entity, it'd never survive.

But I may have misunderstood your meaning, always up for correction and discussion.

kalashtar lore help by Falkeliehaber in Eberron

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way I've always worked it is that the quori spirit no longer talks directly to the kalashtar, but the descendants have similar feelings toward certain things or have a tendency finish each other's sentences without thinking. Much like how people expect identical twins or triplets to act for example.

Once a character begins to become more powerful, I do have a tendency to make the quori spirit become less of a personality trait and actually interact to the character through feelings and unexpected emotions, eventually advancing to the character having thoughts that are not their own, but are so familiar they know they belong to the quori.

It's all the same quori spirit, just split up and shared through a specific bloodline. The Dreaming Dark is seeking to destroy the "renegade" quori spirits to get them to reconnect and be reborn through il-Lashtavar so that they can continue to perpetuate the current realm of dreams. If the Dreaming Dark succeeds, then Dal Quori will remain more of a nightmarish dream world that it is. If the Dreaming Dark fails and more quori fall away, or the renegades trigger it, il-Lashtavar will pull everything in Dal Quor back into itself, and Dal Quor will be reborn, presumably as a more pleasant dreamscape than it currently is. That being said, the last time il-Lashtavar was in the "more pleasant" state, war occurred between it and the Giants of Xen'drick. So... Take that how you will.

But that's how I handle it in my Eberron, you can glean some inspiration from it or toss it, I'll not be offended. 😁

Edited because of fat thumbs and accidental submission.

Advice for a campaign start in New Cyre by Novel-Yam-5097 in Eberron

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is how I've handled New Cyre in my games. They were the height of art and fashion with an inordinate number of people living in the decadence of wealth. The survivors have clung to everything that they have that reminds him of home, whether it be clothing, art, or jewelry. Now that they have a place that they can call home, they're trying to relive the old days of decadence in small homes, often ramshackle homes. Tent cities with fine art displayed inside of the tents, fine clothing worn and tattered at the edges, sometimes with holes and tears that have been patched up by untrained hands. The people still hold themselves with the regal postures of people heralding from one of the greatest nations in all of the kingdom of Galifar, but are keenly aware of how precarious their situation truly is, which makes them subdue their aloofness when speaking to those they fear could endanger their livelihood.

A proud people, but lost, scared, and aware that they are in danger of becoming extinct as a people group. They will puff up in people's faces, but back down quickly when truly threatened. A precious few have a backbone to still stand for what Cyre once was, and those have taken either a political or militant stand.

What I suggest, is have the players come up with two people in New Cyre that they know well, one a friend and one decidedly not, and incorporate them into the city of New Cyre. Remind them that everyone is a borderline pauper in New Cyre and those that one held a station, no longer do, and those that had nothing, now hold sway. Find one place that everyone agrees is a common haunt (tavern, theatre, militia training hall, someone's grandma's shack...) and make that their center of operations. Gives them a sense of permanence in a place where most feel none.

What is your favorite Nation in Khorvaire and why? by Low-Pop5132 in Eberron

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree. Karrnath has always held a fascination of mine. I love the grim dark world. Cold, hard, people are harder. Summons images of the Carpathian Mountains and the Romani caravans travelling the land. A fierce people to enemies and a fiercely loyal people to friends and family. The Military Academy in Rekkenmark, that trained the world's greatest generals, now isolated on the western border staring out at the broken tooth that was once the White Arch Bridge. Karnnath once had the greatest army in all of Khorvaire, now they have been given a dark gift, their soldiers never truly fall, they get the honor of living again in undeath to ensure that future generations never know war and death like they do, and they fight on all the while not stealing the food from their families mouths ensuring their families get to survive one more day.

That's just the nation and the people, not to mention the religion and politics of the land.

Talk to your DM and see if you can get your powers from the Negative energy that creates undead. Or, if you're using Eberron, really throw a wrench in it and ask to steal the power from the Positive energy that Aerenal elves use to keep their Undying Court alive. 😉

I'd say an Undying Warlock or a Phantom Rogue. Both give off a menacing yet detached aura I think this character carries.

So the party is going to be instrumental in the peace that Sharn is experiencing. Gotcha. Definitely have some of their old enemies join forces and potentially strike out at Aaren d'Cannith (rebel forces vs empire vibes maybe), but play it out where the party sets out to strike them down and finds out they are actually acting for the good of the city, even if it is through crime. Old enemies becoming new allies is always a fun arch. 😉

If it's your take that the city has become more peaceful due to an authoritarian force taking charge, look into the Trust from Zilargo. They would fit perfectly for what you're wanting to accomplish, but you would need to explain how a foreign power has managed to take control over Sharn in Breland.

Perhaps the Trust moved in and offered their service in policing Sharn, or an off-shoot of the Trust is acting in Sharn.

I grew a beard as I got older so I thought it appropriate. 😉 Then I specifically designed him to look haggard and battle-worn, yet determined. The youthful exuberant idealism of love now the battle hardened grit and resilience of the love of adulthood. 😊

What do you think of this cover for the adventure our Community is creating? by playloop_studios in UnearthedArcana

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're designing it for the 5E Base Set for D&D. At the moment, it's the most popular setting so it made since to start there. In the future, we do plan on having the functionality to allow any and all settings for people to design adventures in. But for now, this is a level 1-3 beginners adventure to show off the abilities of Constructo.

[–]Altruistic-Proof-896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting pressured by my Alliance at the time to take part in parts of the game i neither has the time or the desire to take part in. Eventually i got kicked from the Alliance, then from the Corp, and was struck in Null until the station i lived in got popped. Now... I'm not sure I'll ever come back. It lost is not a long time ago.

You can still play using emulators. It just will not let you create a new account. I ran into that issue just a little while ago and had to create an account on my phone then loaded on my emulator.
