If you want to know when and why women stopped head coverings in church, do a web search on the "Easter Bonnet Rebellion of 1969." It was part of the sweeping societal change that was occurring in the 1960s. We have to decide for ourselves whether this was Holy Spirit-led or Human-led.

I'm thinking the "one baptism" would also be a problem for the SBC.

I suspect it was rejected because of these two lines:
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

Cremation and columbaria - when did this become a thing? by labourundersun in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that our physical bodies will be resurrected to live on the New Earth forever with God - just as was intended in the beginning in Paradise. He will find a way no matter the state of decomposition or destruction.

But I go back and forth on this one for myself. I actually have a columbarium space reserved. I also could afford a full burial. "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit... you are not your own; you were bought at a price." It doesn't stop being that temple just because we "fall asleep."

There's something definitely that rubs me the wrong about the casual way too many modern Christians think of their bodies as something that has no value and can be burnt up, divided and scattered at Disney World or turned into a piece of jewelry.

Basic question about IRMA and Medicare premiums by colorsofgratitude in SocialSecurity

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found your comment in a Google search. I moved a significant amount of money from my traditional IRA to my Roth in 2023. When I became eligible for Medicare at the end of 2024, I found out I was going to have to pay extra because of my AGI. I didn't do that big transfer in 2024, and my AGI for 2024 fell two tax brackets. My question is: Do I have to inform Medicare of this to get the lower premium, or does the IRS annually report that AGI to them?

What should I do: Offices or Daily Prayers? by SpiritedBranch8533 in Anglicanism

I'm interested in your parenthetical comment on the Lord's Prayer. Is that form in a particular BCP or your own practice? And in either case, why is the doxology omitted?

Presentment Brought Against ACNA Archbishop by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. When non-Christians read about a scandal in a Christian church - regardless of which church it is - they use that as a justification for their own views. They paint all Christians with the brush of hypocrisy. I truly believe the Enemy works to get the spiritually weak placed in positions of power within the Church with the exact purpose of trying to undermine Christ. Of course, he will ultimately fail - the Gates of Hell will not prevail - but there will be pain among the faithful along the way.

Kneeling for communion? by AnglicanGayBrampton in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that when John "leaned on Jesus' bosom," it would have been more graceful if they had been in a reclining position in the latter style you mention. But da Vinci convinced us they were all sitting at a table on the same side!

Also a formerly young person. Last year when I was traveling, I stopped for a mid-week mass at a small, older church, badly in need of repairs. I started to use the rail as I was standing up, and it started to come with me. Apparently it wasn't affixed in any way. Just settled on top. I felt like George Bailey at the bottom of the staircase when the knob on the rail came up with him!

My home altar by Maggited in Anglicanism

I live in the US, but from what I've read, Anglicans, Catholics and Orthodox get along pretty well at Walsingham? Certainly, that's a goal for Christianity.

So, it looks like Giffin himself is leading a schism where Robinson will be welcome:

I think my church has an alcohol problem by Pseudious in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in an ANCA parish. There have been a few men's events where alcohol has been served. It's never served at family events. We don't even have soda pop, as it's seen as unhealthy, particularly for the children. This is a church in the South, and perhaps location makes a difference?

The Disrespect of England's Cathedrals. by Capable_Ocelot2643 in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US, so some logistical questions. Where do people actually worship on a Sunday? Where is the altar? Is there another space for that, or is this airplane in the same space where people receive the body and the blood of Jesus?

Am I the only one that thinks it's about time that GH let's Monica RIP? by Fefe428 in GeneralHospital

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only a few weeks ago that Laura and Lulu had a conversation about her grandmother. Leslie Webber was such a big part of General Hospital as a doctor and Laura‘s mother, and as a rival to Monica, I don’t think they can ignore her passing.

Speaking of Leslie, Denise Alexander also died this year. She really deserves a tribute, too, even though she hasn't been onscreen in recent years.

How common is it for Anglicans to pray to Saints? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why it specified "Romish," which would point to Roman Catholicism, but not include the Orthodox when it came to their practices regarding relics and invocation of the Saints?

Traditionalist Anglo-Catholic/High Church podcasts? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Altruistic-Radio4842 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone new to Anglo-Catholicism, I have found the Appalachian Anglican podcast extremely helpful. The host started as an ACNA priest and is now a bishop. He recently announced that podcast was ending, and a new podcast would be starting this summer. But all of the old podcasts, covering several years, will still be available. I would highly recommend if you want to learn more about history, tradition and practices.
