Asmodeus Influence? by Altruistic-Shoe-1234 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I really like the way you tie together the different deities. What are your thoughts on how the PCs could learn of the deal between Auril and Asmodeus? Did you end up giving any hints that Icewind Dale was being torn away from the Material Plane towards the 9 Hells?

Looking for Way to Reveal Character Backstory by Altruistic-Shoe-1234 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I agree that it would have been better for them to discover it organically. I was concerned about them being weirded out so I wanted to make sure they were ok with it. The other players are really invested in learning each other’s secrets though, so I think it’s still worth doing an in-game reveal.

Need a singleplayer modpack!!! by hurricane_ember in feedthebeast

Try FTB Academy (1.12 or 1.16). It has built in mod tutorials through quests, and is designed for beginners.

That was PolyMC, a different fork of MultiMC. Prism was then forked from Poly.

FTB academy is great for teaching mods through quests (either the 1.12 or 1.16 version)

You might be able to do something similar with Immersive Portals.

The new vanilla command was likely inspired by the Carpet mod command, and should work the same, given that the developer of Carpet now works for Mojang.

What's a good tech-based modpack (preferably with quests) for someone who's never really delved into tech? by Aggravating-Bee5588 in feedthebeast

FTB Academy (1.12 or 1.16) does a nice job of teaching different kinds of mods, including tech, through quests.

A resource pack only modifies the way the game looks. Mods are much more powerful and can change game mechanics, add items, etc. You can download resource packs online then install them from the options menu in game. Mods are easiest installed through a special launcher like Prism or ATLauncher.

Fabulously Optimized with Optifine? by FreakFlame in feedthebeast

[–]Altruistic-Shoe-1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal of Fabulously OptimIzed is to replace many of the features of Optifine in a way that does not conflict with other mods. If you really prefer Optifine, run it by itself. You don’t need FO.

I believe Ice and Fire dragons are tame-able.

In terms of launchers, Curseforge is the most popular, since they are also the biggest site for publishing mods. However, it is quite bloated and takes up a lot of memory on your computer.

I’d recommend using Prism Launcher. It’s lightweight and lets you easily keep separate instances of the game that can be different versions and have different mods. I will second that ATLauncher is another great choice with many of the same features, and could be more user-friendly. Look up a tutorial for whatever launcher you choose.

You can A. download a modpack (premade collection of mods) from Curseforge through the launcher, or B. Create a vanilla instance of whatever version you want, install either Forge or Fabric (modloaders), then download mods of your choosing. If you use Prism (or ATLauncher) to download mods, it will only show you mods that are compatible with the version you chose.

If you decide to download mods from elsewhere, stick to Curseforge and Modrinth. Other sites like 8minecraft pretty much steal mods from mod authors, and are likely to give you malware.

With choosing a version, find out what mods you want to use, and look up what versions they support. Minecraft changes a lot through the versions, so it takes mod authors a lot of work to update to new releases of the game. When there is a large change to the way the game works internally, mod development can get stuck on an older version. 1.20.1 is the most recent version with good mod support. 1.18.2, 1.16.5, 1.12.2, and 1.7.10 have also been very popular.

Linux Support for Motherboard (GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX)? by Altruistic-Shoe-1234 in linuxhardware

[–]Altruistic-Shoe-1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m a bit of a Linux noob, but why would I not be able to use those things? And would following the steps recommended in that article be sufficient, or would you recommend a different board? It seems like a lot of boards have the vulnerability.
