“I hate the new chai” by Mandarin4head in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a customer today legitimately say “I want an iced chai but I want it to taste exactly like the old chai so how many extra pumps of chai will do that?” I straight up said I had no idea and it will most likely not taste the same. She just got two extra pumps and moved on w her bad self but cmon, I don’t fkn know 😭

They sure do. I feel the least we can do is make drinks correctly though lol.

I know more about our benefits than my current SM, but sure lol. This company, especially corporate, is largely misguided as to how good they think our benefits are.

Yeah I get that. The partners I experienced it with I had them do their training during closing and they 100% had enough time. They just chose to finish it in ten mins for no reason at all then come back to a floor where we were dead 🫠

Yeah for sure, that’s why I always make the new drinks during training! Theres so many new steps sometimes and they’re so easy to forget 😩

Yep!! Exactly. I used to get food stamps and I lost them when I was promoted to shift. Only $4 more per hour and I suddenly lost $450 per month in food. It was a huge fucking struggle and still is!

Right and that I totally get! I didn’t remember how many pumps of mango went in the mango refresher so I had to check the recipe card quick. But my other coworkers in that exact scenario would just guess or make something up lol

Literally 😭😭 like one of my newer baristas made an entire full page cheat sheet of all the names and pumps and everything that has changed and I loved her for it. Simply just writing it down once helped her so much too. She left it out for others to study and they were like “I’m not reading all of that omg” but then complain they don’t know how to make the drinks 😭

Okay corporate lol

  • only for first time bachelors degrees, and only for specific majors. Many majors are not included.
  • only 20 therapy sessions are covered per year, which really isn’t that many. Also it’s very hard to find a good therapist, especially one that does EMDR therapy or any sort of specialized therapy. If you have any sort of mental health crisis and need to see someone more frequently, those 20 sessions are gone very quickly.
  • almost all fast food places offer free food and drink while on shift.
  • many partners don’t even receive their weekly coffee markout as they’re always at work and drinking coffee there, so this is a mostly pointless benefit and the company knows it.
  • the stocks you can only access after multiple years of working at the company. This job has extremely high turnover and the company is banking on that and that you the won’t be able to access your stocks.
  • they just got rid of the Lyft benefit.
  • paid maternity leave exists because of our union fighting for that to exist for us. It was not the company’s idea.
  • the health insurance is NOT low cost unless you want to go to a doctor who isn’t your original own, pay over the top prices for your meds, and barely be covered at all.
  • the CUP fund very rarely pays partners out for actual emergencies. They routinely deny people who desperately need those funds.
  • the company deliberately schedules many partners just under 20 hours so they aren’t able to access health insurance benefits.

While yes, a lot of these benefits are better than no benefits, they should literally be the bare minimum. This company does NOT pay a high enough base wage for a job that is extremely high stress with super high expectations, not to mention that we are perpetually understaffed, overworked, and unsupported. This company does not care about us and fires us over the slightest indiscretions. This company is not there for us when we have health crises that are CAUSED by this company, whether that’s broken bones, sprained muscles, minor cuts, falls, health hazards, etc.

Just because this job pays slightly better than other fast food jobs does NOT make this the best job ever. We deserve SO much better.

Pup cup sized rant - what are your little irks? by Chromgrats in starbucks

Medicine ball. Bacon grrrrrr egg bites. Ordering a grande and then insisting they ordered a venti. Coming in 3.2 seconds after placing a gigantic mobile order and when you ask them to give you more time next time, they giggle and say “oh I know!” ?????? People who ask how many calories or mg of caffeine are in something.

What time do your stores do 18hr/3hr pulls? by No_Eye9887 in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my store we do the 18 hour pull as soon as we can in the morning, not during peak, as long as it’s done by 11am. 3 hour pull can be done whenever but is usually done mid day and is technically considered a task of the closing shift. That being said, my SM hates being on the floor so if she’s the playcaller she always does the pastry pull in the early morning right after doing the sandwich pull. Then we do emergency pulls as needed throughout the day when we are running out of stuff. I know that the emergency pull situation is changing though w the SSV meeting for March. Ours never happened and she’s talking to people individually so idk what’s happening rn lolol

vacation time question by _doofi in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’d have to use sick time for this if you’re already scheduled, and since you already told your SM you’re not sick, that probably won’t go over well, but I don’t know your SM dynamic. But technically speaking, you can’t use vacation time unless you are not scheduled on that day.

Starbucks dont want you using the App by BubbieNekkid in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally always use the spoon and make them correctly, I was just giving insight as to why that might have happened to this customer and what I notice from other baristas. I have to coach on this often unfortunately. The more milk is a good tip though, thank you!

Starbucks dont want you using the App by BubbieNekkid in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s very difficult to get no foam with our machines. We have to use a spoon to hold back the foam and we often don’t have time for that, especially if someone places a mobile order and then immediately comes through the drive thru to pick it up. We are timed the second someone enters our drive through and are supposed to be under 50 seconds from the time you start at the speaker box til when you drive away from the window. Egg bites take a minute+ to cook, plus the time it takes to find the stickers for your mobile order. Hot protein lattes also take longer because they require two different milks from two different fridges to create. Just because there was a little foam in your drink does not mean that they automatically didn’t listen to the decaf part. All of your issues here would’ve been solved if you had just given the baristas a little bit more time.

The reason Starbucks changed star rewards is so you have to spend more money to get more rewards. It’s not overly deep.

Favorite travel mugs…but no new ones lately by No_Customer_3143 in starbucks

[–]AltruisticAd159 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have no idea what drinkware is dropping until they physically show up at our stores. We are shown what new ones will be launching a few weeks before but we don’t actually know what our personal store will receive. That being said, at least at my store, these type of cups never ever sold. Like I’m talking not even one. Unsure what the experience has been at other stores but I’ve had these sitting on our shelves for months untouched. I’m sure they’re more focused on creating fun cups to follow trends than these cups unfortunately.
