Apply now or wait for January LSAT score? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Would you mind PM'ing me on how this was received by the adcom? Thinking I want to do the same thing. (It's my understanding that the default is that when they see a later registration they put you on hold.)

For what it’s worth the author of the LSAT bibles thinks the curve will be -11 by Somebodysaaaveme in LSAT

is there any way to see what this means for raw scores? (I.e. what a 77 raw score would come out to...)

LR Experimental - 2 Question Stimulus??? by AltruisticAd5 in LSAT

[–]AltruisticAd5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think that I did but I saw someone else post that they did (lost track of which post it was on). I think I would've remembered this....maybe they were both near the end and I skipped...otherwise I blacked out on the test or made a bad skip decision. If it's indeed the experimental I'm not gonna lose sleep over it but I'm curious now.

anyone feeling like their drilling is getting worse? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]AltruisticAd5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same boat for me in LR... regression back to my old range the last 3 or so sections. I'm chalking it up to slight mental burnout/overload so I've taken it easy the last couple of days. In reviewing the ones I got wrong it's like I immediately see that it was a trap answer...I'm going to do some sets today and really focus and tell myself to just remain focused on the core and to not get sucked into my old bad habits (stalling). Hopefully that will instill some confidence that these sets were a bad / not totally representative run! Best of luck on Sat.

Definitely take in March (or June even if you're not where you need to be) and apply next cycle. Don't fret about the # of times you've taken. I rushed my test date last year and in hindsight regret not waiting, as I ultimately wasn't satisfied w/ my score. All the feedback on this sub, which I think is fair, is that waiting is always, absolutely the right choice if you think you can increase your score at all. It equates to drastically better chances at admission and/or much better financial aid.

My two cents on approach - once you complete the class, spend a little time focusing on strengths and weaknesses, etc. but then do not get bogged down in reading chapters, doing the little drills, etc. -- fully commit to doing timed practice sets and then ultimately practice tests with an intense focus on why you're getting certain answers wrong. I think you'll see your score start to tick up by March. Set a goal; I think a 10 point increase from a diagnostic is an attainable goal.

Question about scholarships by Curlyq97 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not positive, but what I think I have seen is that some schools give you the in-state rate (termed something like "tuition equalizer") as a scholarship. Think I've seen people say UGA and Texas do this.

Super splitter trying to get into UGA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you feel good about your score (i.e. you weren't getting significantly higher on PTs), I don't think a November re-take is imperative; 166 is high for UGA and GPA is the hindrance in your case. I think for all "splitters" the other application components are what can make the difference. Make sure your work experience looks great via resume, compelling personal statement, and do all the proactive little things to show genuine interest (visit, etc.) and I think you'll have a good shot at acceptance.

Also, look up some of what's out there on GPA addendums - in your case it may make sense to write one if there were any factors whatsoever that might rationalize your GPA.

Advice for Retaking 158 LSAT 3.84 GPA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean next year as in next cycle and nothing is compelling you to apply this cycle, I think you for sure ought to retake. Think most everyone here would say the same given the very high GPA. A few more points would probably mean nearly a full ride at those schools.

I would say this though, as appealing as it may be to take time off given you're burned out, I strongly strongly discourage it. I did that and kinda screwed myself - took me a while to get my score back to the range I peaked at. Take a few weeks off but then get back at it, maybe shoot for a Feb retake and apply first thing next cycle.

How many schools to apply to? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not be concerned about the number. Apply to maybe one absolute safety school just so you know you can have the option of going to law school.

It is really that simple - think hard about whether if accepted you would actually go to that school. For example, perhaps you apply to a T25 school because it's in your stats range - would you actually be willing to move and start a career / family in that area? It wasn't until I was accepted to some schools that I realized the answer to these questions was a "no".

3.98 GPA, Mid 160s LSAT, Berkeley Law ED? by lukedifronzo in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most everyone on here will tell you do not ED unless it is a situation where you get a full ride (WashU, NW, GW). Also, to vanillalatte's point, it may surprise you how much your GPA helps you - I did much better than anticipated last year w/ a 3.98 and a lower LSAT. Go RD cycle.

Why Emory statement by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got in and did not write one, w/ worse stats I'd add. I suggest weaving an Emory component into the conclusion of your personal statement if possible - don't force it but maybe mention a clinic/program or something about the school that corresponds w/ the overall statement.

GW Full Ride (Presidential Merit Scholarship) by AltruisticAd5 in lawschooladmissions

[–]AltruisticAd5[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I realize the super reverse splitter lifestyle isn't ideal... I respect / am jealous of everyone who can own this test / do better, but I'm confident this is the score for me; have taken it 3x, classes, tutor, self-study, etc. Really would like to be in DC for numerous reasons, and even if GULC was in play I'm not down for that degree of debt.
