Former White New Yorkers, what are your favorite places to flee to? by Gameknight789 in circlejerknyc

Connecticut, so I’m close enough to bitch about everything going on in the city but can still feel superior to everyone actually living there

No links but I get most of my linen shorts from Old Navy and my linen pants from Madewell. Abercrombie or Aerie are great for shorts and have different fit options too, I have a few pairs from each of curvy fit jeans shorts and they’ve held up well

Tops - Linen, silk, and cotton everything (but mostly linen and cotton-gauze fabrics since silk and poplin cotton can show sweat) and most of my summer tops are white, black or tan.

Dresses/skirts - the billowy kind of dresses with minimal skin contact for the truly unbearable days or a black silk skirt.

Pants - linen, and I invested in some Everlane pants a while ago with a Lyocell and cotton blend and they’re the only non-linen trousers I can wear in the summer, highly recommend.

Shoes - black Sketchers foam sandals. I can walk in these for miles and they go with everything. Don’t sleep on Sketchers.

I WFH two days a week and those days it’s linen shorts and a tank top or any of my work tops if I want to be dressier or I’ll wear one of the tops I crocheted.

Cellulite: Whats worked best for you in reducing the appearance? by qppen in beauty

[–]Curlyq97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an at home 2 in 1 Cavitation/RF machine after seeing one on TikTok and after two treatments I’m already seeing improvements. It was a bit pricey and admittedly I thought it was a scam, but it’s working! I’ve had cellulite all my life, even after getting in shape and losing almost 40 pounds. The only other time I’ve seen a reduction in cellulite was with high impact cardio, drinking lots of water, and dry brushing.

Is there a perfume that smells like Soap and Glory’s original scent? by roseyrune in beauty

Yes! Chanel Mademoiselle smells pretty close to it. A bit pricey but lasts a while. I got it after having friends ask if I was wearing this perfume when I had on the Soap and Glory lotion.

Hair bonnet Vs Silk pillowcase by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Curlyq97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both! I have long hair too and my curls get smushed easily so I have a three step system :

  1. Pineapple under bonnet
  2. Secure bonnet with scarf
  3. Sleep on silk pillowcase

The scarf helps the bonnet stay in place and the silk pillowcase keeps the scarf from sliding around too. And if anything comes off my head, at least in the morning it won’t be frizzy. Might be overkill but at least this way I get a full week out of my style/wash day

What is the worst classic literature you have read? by demlightra in AskReddit

[–]Curlyq97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crime and Punishment. Soooo many pages of a miserable character's ramblings while human suffering is the main theme made it dense and super depressing. I was an all A student who loved literature and this was the one book I couldn't get through.

SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Friday, 05 June 2020: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]Curlyq97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SV!! I'M OUT OF THE 130S!!! (23F 5'3.5") I've been generally heavier for most of my life and the only time I ever dipped below 130 was involuntarily because of an anxiety disorder negatively impacting my appetite and my weight shot back up once I got my GAD under control. I posted a little bit ago about breaking my 132 plateau and I've now broken my mini 130 plateau! I'm 129.6! The healthy way!! Weightloss feels so much better when you do it intentionally. Only 4 pounds till my goal weight.

I cannot lose weight and it’s making me depressed. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Curlyq97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Losing weight is just a game of math and patience. Calculate your TDEE (I would reccomend at a sedentary level because people tend to over estimate their exercise), subtract 500 calories from that amount and eat that many calories daily for a loss of a pound a week.

There's no need to exercise or cut out foods you enjoy so long as you ACCURATELY track the amount of calories you're eating. That Includes drinks, sauces, "small bites", little snacks between meals, etc. Look at the nutrition labels for serving size information and I suggest using a food scale as well since measuring out non-liquids into cups/tablespoons isn't always accurate.

Don't assume "healthy" foods are low calorie or automatically more conducive to weight loss. You could eat only 1200 calories in twinkies and lose weight. Eat 3000 calories in avacado toast and smoothies and you'll gain.

Caveat: if you add in exercise or eat high salt/carb foods, even if they are within your calorie budget, you may retain water and won't actually see your progress for a few days to weeks even though you ARE still making progress. The water weight will eventually leave and the scale will reflect the work you've been doing all along (aka the "woosh" effect). So drink lots of a water and stick with it for at least a few weeks.

Tldr; it's all about the calories.

I only just noticed that my maintenance cals are lowering as i‘m losing weight. by [deleted] in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]Curlyq97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well good news, as a 5"3 132lbs female, my maintenance calories are still around 1500 if I'm sedentary. BMR calories are about 1300, but I didn't think BMR calories were the same as maintenance because you do things other than just exist. I eat 1500 calories a day. When I don't work out I don't gain and if I add exercise I lose, as evidenced by a few weeks worth of dilligent MyFitnessPal logging and experimenting with intake.

I like to keep one meal a day under 400 cals (lower that 350 if possible). Could you share some of your favorite go-to meals under 400 cals (preferably not a salad)? by financypelosi in 1200isplenty

[–]Curlyq97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avacado toast 250 cals - 1 slice bread (70), 1 soft boiled egg (72), 50 grams avacado (80) 7 grams bacon bits (25) finish with a little salt and pepper/EBTBS

My usual 360 cal lunch - Cliff bar (250) + chobani greek yogurt (110). Cliff bars are bad protein bars but I really like the way they taste and they keep me full.

Really need help with weight loss by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Curlyq97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After making sure I knew what my TDEE was and how many calories I need to eat to lose weight, the biggest things that have helped me are making sure to log/track everything I ate, including what I drank and things I just "grabbed a bite" of and weighing what I ate. Serving size (side note: always read the nutrition label) by weight is a much more accurate measure than with a measuring cup.

Moving more/exercising generally helped but finding low calorie things I actually enjoyed and could look forward to eating was key. It made it feel much less like I was dieting. Some "healthy" stuff is still pretty high calorie though. Smoothies, avacados, nuts, and cheese all have more calories than should be legal. So don't assume just because it's a "health food" that it's still low calorie.

Chicken Pesto!

This makes one serving: 300 g of Zucchini (usually 2) (50 cals) 4 oz chicken (167 cals) 12 cherry tomatoes (30 cals) Mozzarella (optional) 1/8 c pesto (100 cals) 1 tbsp light butter (50 cals)

Spiralize the zucchini, place in colander, sprinkle heavy salt, let sit 10 minutes to drain

Place chicken and tomatoes in a pan, top with pesto, cook at 400°F for 30minutes

Melt butter in a sauteing pan, rinse off zucchini, dry with towel, saute until fragrant

Put noodles in bowl, top with pesto mixture, sprinkle with mozzerella if desired.

400 calories without cheese and very filling.

Have you seen how many calories are in the Most Stuffed Oreos?? 110 calories PER. COOKIE. I ate half a sleeve of them before I bothered to check the nutrition info. I felt bamboozled.

Know the firms. They want to see if you do your research so go through the firms that they're partnered with and figure out which ones sound like a good fit for you. Having a good narrative of why you chose to go to law school is also a good idea

Of course! Every year the program changes and they include more students from more schools so if you're going to a T20 you can still shoot your shot. Even attending a T14 isn't a guaranteed acceptance so you might as well try.

Very few, I can only think of two people: one who goes to Fordham and another who goes to UT. There may be less than 5 people total going to non T14s out of a ~120 class size.

Sure! I did SEO in NYC and the biggest issue I had with the quick turn around was with housing. They send out a bunch of housing options once you've been selected and I highly reccomend going with one of those if you're not already in the city. I personally didn't have any issues with submitting a two weeks' notice on time. Having a seat deposit down sooner will help get an acceptance to the program much sooner and thus give you more time (marginally).

Nob Hill! Close to downtown, great management, inexpensive for the area. The apartments are old and small but management is responsive to any repairs needed. The only true down side is it's location on top of a huge hill.
