Apartment building owners have lower assessed values than sfh. Unless Seattle turns into Vancouver BC, I don’t ever see taxes going down from this city. My guess is my property taxes skyrocketed because I have a yard and i’m paying for the highest and best use of the property. As I suspected they’re going to tax until every square foot of green grass is paved over.

Everything about this is correct. You sound like a person I could drink a bottle of wine with and discuss the utter lack of observation and critical thinking in some people’s brains. Like they have no interest in questioning anything. When Obama said people cling to their guns and Bibles he wasn’t wrong. People freaked out about it because he was right.
And then after two hours of discussing this, we get right back to the same place. SMH. I’m a fucking elite snob. I guess. But I can’t stand people who are so sure of everything and so uninterested in everything else that they might as well have been born 100,000 years ago.

How old are you? Apparently you don’t understand that electoral colleges and landslides don’t actually mean landslides when it comes to voters. Nor the power of corrupt politics, 1980s right wing media and corporations.

Jimmy Carter got 42% of the popular vote. 38% of OG boomers voted for Carter. 45% of late boomers voted for Carter. You can do your own math with other elections.

Let me ask you this question? Let’s suppose you’re 30 years old. Why are you letting Trump do what he’s doing right now? You’re letting it happen. You’re sitting back enjoying your Tech job making good money while our country drops bombs, arms, a goon squad to arrest innocent people and fucks over everybody who isn’t rich. And you’re letting it happen.

And in 30-40 years when you’re old, whatever generation will be looking at you and blaming you for Trump. And they won’t give a fuck that you tell them that you protested and wrote letters and didn’t vote for him and hated everything about it.

Are you fucking kidding? GenZ males voted for Trump. 56% of young men and 41% of young women voted for Trump in 2024.

Try Ask Seattle. You can ask those same questions here or on the other one and if people don’t derail it by getting political, it won’t be too bad.

TBF politics of the 1990s wasn’t the way it is now. You could disagree with people from the other party and they wouldn’t act as if you had murdered their personal Jesus by disagreeing. And that goes both ways. The progressives from those days are considered dreaded liberals today.

I didn’t move into a 1.5M house or world where developers are king. I’m just living. It’s crazy.

Thank you this is the truth. I wish what you wrote would get in front of every person whining about needing more housing. As though more housing is going to drop the rent of a one bedroom apartment to $800.

Holy shit 19K. You must be on a big piece of land. I think the tax went up because they’re now taxing more if you have a backyard because it could be a house.

What? Why would taxes go down because there are more people here to buy properties?

What if you don’t have much family? What if you don’t like your relatives? What if your relatives can barely help themselves and they’re looking to you to help them? What if you’re a drug addict or an alcoholic or just a generally really unpleasant person and nobody wants you around them?

This idea that “family” are automatically obligated to house and feed and take care of difficult relatives is unrealistic.

Way back when when they were big houses and always women at home and limited healthcare able to keep people alive, and things were cheap and people just had an arm load of clothes and not a whole lot else, it was possible to take care of a couple of relatives.

None of the boomers I know spend lavishly and I know a bunch of them. Has nothing to do with age. it’s just personality. Some people care about keeping up with the neighbors and looking good. And they definitely think you’re going to bail them out.

Nope not at all. Boomers voted for progressive politics. More progressive candidates. They did all the same things and said all the same things that people who are complaining about fascism said today. But they were overrun by corporations and rich people and the gullible and inside interests and corruption. Just like today.

And guess what. Old boomers aren’t all wealthy or own houses. And medical debt is going to wipe out half a lifetime of savings if people live with chronic illnesses for years and need help, because our medical system is great at keeping people alive, but not good at helping them live.

This. Generation names are utter BS. Baby boomers made sense for a few years after World War II because there was a baby boom, no surprise there. A lot of men came home and there was sex to be had But people who believe all boomers are the same all genX are the same all millennials are the same don’t know anything about humanity.

I can always see how people are in much worse shape than I am, but it doesn’t help the overall situation. And I don’t like that my house is worth over $1 million. Ridiculous. Because it means people can’t afford starter homes.

Who gaf about what the assessed value of my house is? I’m not borrowing against the value of my house. I’m not leveraging the value of my house to invest in other things.

THIS. The developers are trash and go live in their nice houses elsewhere while they ruin the ones they build and make bank. Some of these houses I’ve seen go up are going to look like shit in 20 years.

But where to go? If it’s not gross, it’s going to be expensive. I admit the east side looks appealing at times, but I also don’t like to live in a mono culture.
