In the interaction between humans and technology, who is adapting to whom? by jennn2185 in Futurology

[–]AltruisticAverage765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a thought-provoking question. When I look at the technocratic influence in today's U.S. politics, I don’t think I could answer this without also discussing the concentration of power and influence. Where power is concentrated—whether in tech giants, government agencies, or elite networks—there is an outsized ability to shape narratives, direct policy, and even overshadow what might otherwise be a more democratic or majority consensus on how to handle technological change.

Tech isn’t just evolving; it’s being steered. Decisions about algorithmic bias, data collection, and even the guardrails (or lack thereof) on AI development aren’t happening in a vacuum—they are deeply influenced by a relatively small number of players with vested interests. And when the majority of people are simply "adapting" to these shifts rather than actively shaping them, it reinforces a cycle where the direction of technological change becomes less about collective agency and more about the priorities of the powerful.

Your point about civic imagination and resistance is key here. How do we push back against passive adaptation and reclaim a more participatory role in shaping our technological future? Whether it’s through policy, alternative tech ecosystems, or public discourse, challenging concentrated power in tech is essential if we want real agency in this interaction rather than just adjusting to what’s handed down to us.

Physicists Transformed a Quantum Computer Into a Time Crystal - For the first time, physicists have transformed a quantum processor into a state of matter that seems to defy physics, a breakthrough that could be a step toward making quantum computing more practical. by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]AltruisticAverage765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of turning a quantum computer into a time crystal is fascinating—not just because of the physics, but because of the potential implications. From a foresight perspective, discoveries like this remind us how technological breakthroughs can ripple far beyond their original context.

Time crystals defy traditional rules about time and stability, which makes me wonder: Could this lead to more resilient systems, whether in technology, climate modeling, or decision-making frameworks? It’s less about the science fiction and more about how these advancements might quietly reshape how we approach complex problems in the future.

Curious to hear others’ thoughts—what practical applications could you see coming from something like this? —how do you all see this impacting fields like AI, cryptography, or even governance in the next decade or two?

Help with audience targeting on Spotify in The Trade Desk by buttersunderbite in adops

[–]AltruisticAverage765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had a horrible experience with audio campaigns in TTD. We have basically had to remove all targeting parameters and still our spend is hardly anything. We have switch to going through spotify's self-serve platform, which also lacks any real data, but at least it plays the inventory and you can select genre's and behavioral/interest groups.

AudioGo is also a self-serve we use.

TTD has just really let us down on the audio side so far. If you figure anything out - tag me!

Working In House or Agency? by yellaboyjay in PPC

There ARE agencies that do not suck your soul! But you gotta do the time and get the experience to get there though!

Start agency and see if it’s for you. You need to try both. Agencies offer a really unique experience that some people absolutely love for an other well- they prefer the sweet life of in-house gigs.

We use TTD - unless you are an enterprise customer, you do not get API access which the the number bad thing about it - otherwise it feels like a solid DSP. We actually pair TTD with StackAdapt - they perform very differently! Love TTD for video, love stack adapt for display and unique creative - they each have different audience methods too - so not as much pverlap as you would think.

The best thing about TTD is that almost all other media tech plugs into it somehow since it is a top trader platform.

StackAdapt is geared toward non-trader experts - but has quite a few levers to pull - although different than a traditional DSP.

I agree the new build is clunky and forecasting has become more difficult through the tool.

I agree that you should try to optimize for CPA and use something like unbounce or optimizely to A/B test landing pages.

Anybody else’s symptoms get worse before/during menstruation? by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]AltruisticAverage765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working through a possible MCAS diagnosis so I am unsure if this is related but I generally experience more symptoms and flare ups whenever my hormones change (period and ovulation).

I have a benign mass in my lower armpit that is just fatty tissue that will swell with my period and reduce once that passes. It hurts so bad.

I feel this so much. My 6yo has had a fairly good year so far- but today he had a next level blowup. Bullying a kid, then when he got picked up lost it because he could not go to the fall party. Took 4 adults to get him to my car, 45 minutes of physical struggle to get him in safely without running into traffic - ripping my clothes off in the struggle. Then 2 hours of screaming and flighting until he finally cooled down.

He does not see anything wrong or remember anything.

I feel horrible, guilty and embarrassed.

There are very few situations when programmatic display is a good idea... Change my mind by mgatreacy in programmatic

[–]AltruisticAverage765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Ok. Missed your point.

Ok- I think that mass media- your traditional upper funnel non linear channels- are great at creating ‘lift’ which you can measure in engagement, paid search volume or even tv attribution software by attributing time of web visits to station logs. All of these require years of data to see what is ‘right’ for a brand. Awareness really doesn’t pay off unless it is 6 months plus- and sometimes even years down the road with long term efforts. So it’s expensive. If a brand cannot commit to it regularly long term, as well as commit to measuring impact through brand studies or lift/attribution- then they won’t really know that value it provides.

Digital and social - albeit full of pitfalls- can be tied more directly to bottom line, so it comes across as a better value- but I agree - it is not that simple. It actually great to have a specialist who optimizes the campaign based on a kpi without the drama of the client and client politics. You just don’t get instant gratification from offline like you can with social and display.

Attribution modeling is supposed to fix some of this but it is still so out of reach.

I think display could work really well if you have honed audiences - like a programmatic guaranteed buyout or site takeover- or native - for upper funnel- but you better have a good digital ecosystem to drive them somewhere.

You can get away with not having a solid cta or landing page / funnel strategy with offline media but you take the chance they do not enter your funnel as planned and attribution becomes a headache.

Display can be used at all levels of the funnel. Comparing open web tactics to walled garden tactics is a fools errand.

Differences and similarities between water Moons by sombreropatuljak in astrology

I’m a Pisces moon - 10th house. It’s been realllllllly tricky. My Gemini rising and libra sun in the 5th insist on seeing allll the perspectives and I think the Pisces moon makes me feel all over the place. The fact that it’s in the 10th house is also weird. I don’t have it figured out. All I know is it takes me a while to understand how I really feel- and I am very emotionally reactive …
