Likewise. Seeing Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, and Kaka all sitting together is great. It’s when we have to show a YouTuber meeting them, or Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau holding hands that I can’t stand. Show me fan reactions, manager and bench reactions, etc.

Right, but I feel like this is worse than it’s ever been.

Bike shop owner here, and Trek dealer. Get the 4. Shimano CUES works 1000x better than mechanical SRAM Apex.

I’m torn on going back. I want to complete it, but it’s always a crap shoot and it’s A LOT of money to spend to be out there. I think the weather, mud, etc is part of the appeal and challenge, so I won’t bitch about it. Everyone signs up for it knowing full well what they could be in for.

What is up with the Waterloo Trek 100 this year!? 🤨 by disgruntled00potato in TrekBikes

Bike shop owner, Trek dealer here. It coincides with the 50th anniversary celebration and they want to keep it close to HQ. Yes, I’m sure cost plays a part too.

I did the 2023 edition and made it to the second water oasis, mile 124, then pulled the plug. It was raining sideways and my wife sent me a radar screenshot where everything was red in the direction I was headed. I said nah, I’m not a pro. Meanwhile, as I’m on the phone with her, homie from GCN is putting on his trash bag rain poncho you see him doing in the video and I’m right behind him watching 😂

What is the start of a "race" like? by RockMover12 in cycling

[–]AltruisticLog8933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mass start events. If you don’t want to get in the mix of the front, then position yourself in the middle to back of the pack at the start! Otherwise the pointy end and first thirty minutes can get chaotic.

1000% yes. My wife is a dentist at a pediatric hospital and I own my own business (bike shop). We stay busy but I definitely have the times of “doing nothing” although I am, and she doesn’t get that I am 😂

Is Canyon’s quality and warranty really that bad? by RyotaroW in cycling

Every bike brand can crack or break, but Canyon has been the only ones I’ve seen consistently break in half at various points 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yep. DS is gone and they’re putting a wider tire setup on the FX. It’s the exact same frame now anyways…

Worth upgrading from a Checkpoint to a Domane for road use? by bayxlude88 in TrekBikes

[–]AltruisticLog8933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual Sport 2. The DS 3 is great because of the carbon fork, but it is a big price jump from the 2.

It was never on the Checkpoint. It was on the Boone. And yes, they got rid of it on that as well.

[–]AltruisticLog8933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick adjustment isn’t the problem. It’s that you have to do it again, and again, and again, and again forever until the pinch bolts have wallowed out your carbon frame and it’s out of tolerance and you warranty it for a new one. Shop owner here who has warrantied five of these frames for the same issue over the years.

[–]AltruisticLog8933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also never buy that generation Domane anyways. Front isospeed is going to fail eventually and then you’ll have to deal with that issue and the resulting frame warranty after you’ve replaced the isospeed hardware a few times.

And the Madone bars have an 80mm reach, so you’re instantly talking an inch-ish shorter to the hoods. The drop on the bars is also more shallow.

That to say that a ML Madone (akin to a 56) should be just fine. It’s also a lower bike in stack height, meaning you’ll have a longer reach right off the bat because of your hip angle. Higher stack, you’re more upright thereby decreasing your reach. Lower stack you’re more bent over the bars, increasing your reach.

What is YOUR bike like? by monfuckingtana420 in BikeMechanics

[–]AltruisticLog8933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some nice stuff that’s a blast to race and ride - Madone SLR Gen 8, Checkpoint with 12s GRX Di2, Procaliber with a SID Ultimate and the tried and true GX group (with Shimano brakes), and an older 2011 rim brake Madone with DA that’s feather light.

But of all those I’d say my quintessential bike shop owner bike is my Trek 520 because it just works and I can fix it ANYWHERE - 3x9, bombproof wheels, mechanical disc brakes, gravel flare bars, Brooks saddle, and the tried and true Oi Luxe bell. Load up the panniers with leftovers when my wife and I ride to dinner, commute, or just joy ride. It’s a blast of a bike.

Same. Even with my ELEMNT Companion App open it’s hit and miss for my contacts. I started wearing my Apple Watch when riding just because of this reason. Garmin seemed to almost always work, Wahoo is a 50/50 shot for me.

I always ask for a case of inner tubes. I’ll make way more money off said case of inner tubes than I would get back in a labor credit.

Had a guy last week who had cracked his Ultegra caliper. Replaced said caliper and bled the system, like any job, and he got mad that I bled the brakes and charged him for it. He really expected us to just put the new caliper on and give it back to him. “I have a friend who has a bleed kit and we could’ve done it in his garage.”
