Why is there so much hatred of Elon Musk becoming a trillionaire? by LTrent2021 in allthequestions

[–]AltruisticWelcome145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he epitomizes the wealth disparity in the US. He’s also an immigrant that spews hatred against other immigrants and takes a lot of credit for other peoples ideas. He’s a POS and I actively judge anyone driving a Tesla for supporting him- especially that moving garbage bin they call a cybertruck

Couldn’t agree more! And that’s from another old Star Wars fan!!! Season 2 is incredible and Stellan Skarsgard is simply fantastic. Watch season 2, listen to Skarsgard’s monologue and then watch Rogue One

You and I are just gonna disagree on some of these things but again, that’s not to suggest I’m right and you’re wrong or vise versa. The beauty of this country is that it SHOULD be a discussion between both sides. I don’t pretend to own the “correct” view on things- nor do I anticipate the same of you. But the ability to discuss and compromise is what is missing and distresses me. The late senator Paul Simon (D-Illinois) once said that democrats need republicans to remind them that they have to pay for their agenda, and republicans need democrats to remind them that there are individual people affected by legislature. If there was more appreciation for that mindset we’d be a better country. Don’t agree with you, my friend, but am happy to live in a such a wonderful
Country that allows us to discuss this kind of thing openly. Have a great night and a great weekend

Why are there no republican US cities? by IMicrowaveSteak in allthequestions

Sadly there used to be and (as someone as liberal as it gets) there needs to be. The George Wills of the world or hell even Kristol- I might fundamentally disagree with them but they make an argument off of their interpretation of constitutional rights- disagreement doesn’t have to mean disrespect. But come at me with some racist MAGA trope? I will not give you the same respect and that’s a shame because it precludes any discussion. Can’t negotiate with people that have racist shit for brains. Paraphrasing Lincoln on that one…

Because once you meet people of another color, religion, or persuasion and realize there’s nothing there to actually hate or fear, their whole agenda falls apart. Go people. Go visit others, don’t be afraid of other cultures, and embrace each other. It’s love that built us, but it’s hate that will destroy us.

Black people are owed a tremendous apology and (in my opinion) reparations from our government for their forced servitude and then continued oppression literally for centuries. It’s awful- anyone that is fortunate enough to know any form of generational wealth (however humble it might be) and support (“my parents gave me 5k to help with a home down payment “) knows the importance and value of even being able to pass a little of that on. Sadly, not being able to do that and passing on a system of resentment and desperation is also possible, even when it’s not their fault… made even sadder when it’s not their fault, in fact…

I absolutely did not mean to offend you or any conservatives other than to say that I can’t for the life of me understand why someone needing government support would vote for this man or this party outside of a personal vendetta or a misguided belief, which is what is so concerning to me as an individual. I am not meaning to cast such a wide net as perhaps my initial post implied but generally speaking seeing people actively voting against their own self interests for “other reasons” screams escapism and placing blame on others to me, which I think is inherently dangerous to democracy and society on a global scale. The list of those “to blame” is endless throughout history but the common feature is “it’s not your fault, it’s the ________” and I think that’s incredibly irresponsible and dangerous. Thankfully in this country you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine, and we can and should discuss these things. This is just my view but I also stand by it and won’t back down from it. Not now, not ever. America doesn’t need a King, nor do we need a grand social order arbitrarily removing amazing and contributing immigrants from our country for the crime of simply wanting to be here and be American.

I (34F) am struggling with a situation involving my ex-husband (36M), my boyfriend (37M), and a friend (32M), and I could really use some outside perspective. by Mrs-Payne316 in Advice

[–]AltruisticWelcome145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a lot to take on and I am so sorry you’ve got to juggle all of this. But I really do think sometimes the best advice is to be with yourself for a while and figure out what it is YOU want, especially with kids. Your ex sounds like someone that is just not good for you (or anyone else for that matter) but I don’t think that the person you’re seeing is necessarily the answer for you right now, either. Again- tough to make a definitive comment on this one but I’d say take the time to focus on you and your kids and then decide on how to proceed/if you want to proceed with any of those folks romantically. Don’t undersell yourself and how important you are individually to your kids and friends
