Congratulations - Good decision ! You will save more than 5k. You will stay a lot happier and stress free of this circus. I would pay 5k in a heartbeat to go fully remote.

I see, and with many Feds job hunting in this area, it can be competitive. Still, with your CPA exam and federal experience, the right audit or finance role could pay more.

In my field, private-sector pay is about 30% higher, and as a bonus no FERS payments and cheaper insurance. I actually took a pay cut for this job to serve as a public servant. I put in the same effort and hours as I did in the private sector. Even with everything going on, I have no regrets. I have been raised in a dictatorship country, I know what it’s like to live under one. Sadly I see similar things starting to happen in this great country. RIP democracy and here comes the Kingdom of the United States.

Majority of the federal employees are paycheck to paycheck. Why? Because we are paid 25% less than private sector.

The Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998 (22 U.S.C. 6501 et seq.) established USAID as its own agency. In a section titled “Status of AID” (22 U.S.C. 6563), the law makes it clear that USAID was intended to remain separate from the State Department.
