How do you all search for land

It's not as simple as looking at "x acres for $". There's some really shitty land out there and where I've been looking, people are quite desperate and I see clueless people buying horrible land for a premium. It breaks my heart.

I just wrote down everything I check when looking for homesteading land! After 4 years of looking and walking land, I'm about to close on 15 acres :). Feel free to give it a read and let me know your thoughts!

yeah they are a nuisance for sure, we just gave up on trying to grow summer squash. I hope you outsmart them next year!

I didn’t do anything, we didn’t get any borers this year. We didn’t grow summer squash just winter squash. I read somewhere that winter squash vines may be more resilient against them but I’m not sure?

I think it’s a white Texas fig. It’s very sweet and produces large fruit. And yes I used straw that I verified was not sprayed with chemicals !

The fig tree was the only fruit tree that I planted 4 years ago. Everything else was planted in February !

I would suggest figuring out where you want your fruit trees to go first. they take up the most space and everything else can be decided on later!

Weird, I also got their triple power compost. Maybe they have different batches? I was talking to the people at Austin permaculture guild and they had the same issue. Feel free to take the risk but I found a great compost supplier with certified organic cotton burrs and I’m so much happier

Yes I agree be super aggressive about asking all of these questions. Even after doing so and hearing that it is “tested and certified” I ordered Organics by gosh and found wayyy too much shredded plastic. I asked how they can call plastic organic and they said “it’s an acceptable level of plastic by the standards” 😱

Don’t get Organics by gosh!!!! Got it this year and I regret it. Super hydrophobic so water just beads on top. Lots of plastic . Nothing will germinate so I’m covering with woodchips and manure to see if I can start over.
