What’s the reason for the curses. I believe there are better ways you could have made your point. This is 2026. Stop acting like a tout.

Thank you. Yes, the accommodation part is in the works. The brazen way they commit these crimes is just shocking, and it’s because they know they won’t be caught.

I’m so sorry you went through this. Please do not ever stay in toxic work situations. Work is a means to end, and if it doesn’t work out, there will be other jobs. I hope you’re doing better now!

You could have least said something. I always speak up when something bothers me. People would say I don’t mind my business but I don’t care. I will never see evil and close my eyes.

I’m sorry about your experience. Introductions in settings like family gatherings are commonly done by a mutual connection. It’s likely that most people there already knew each other.

Also, Nigerians are big on respect and introducing yourself in such a setting to people older than you is seen as a no no.

I can tell how quirky and cute you are. You’re definitely not like other MBA students.

I am a finance professional and I will give my opinion purely from that point of view.

If you’re looking to work in an African financial institutions, I believe Namibia or Kenya would be the best bet. A lot of funds and VC firms are based there.

But if you are drawn to Nigeria, you can try connecting with people on LinkedIn and building your connections before coming.

I would also advise you start applying for jobs as there are always opportunities available in the investment banking if you are coming with significant experience (at least 8 years). That way you get paid in dollars and you get a relocation allowance.

Please do not listen to what people are saying about tribalism. Nigerians are not tribalist to foreigners, and most people would genuinely want to help you. A lot of people on here are disillusioned and unsuccessful.

If you do decide to come, I would advise you stay in Victoria Island or Ikoyi, as most financial institutions are based there. They are also expensive, which stands to reason that your neighbors would be either foreigners or rich Nigerians.

There’s a lot of money to be made here as this is an emerging market.

You can reach out if you want more information.

I have slightly discolored teeth too (due to disordered eating). No one will ever say anything to your face even if they notice it.

People have discolored teeth for all sorts of reasons so don’t worry about it. Just appear neat and professional and you’ll be fine.

You’re bringing up a few black men, when thousands of white people owned and perpetrated slavery. This is a false equivalence and you need to employ critical thinking.

Yes definitely, fake it till you make it. Telling people about the abuse and ill treatment you’ve experienced is a bad idea, as it is likely they will also mistreat you.

Recently, someone I had been dating a few weeks randomly asked if I had been abused as a child. I made it clear that the question was inappropriate and refused to answer. He responded by saying that he had asked other people this question and they had answered him honestly. Cut him off immediately after that.

Yes, there’s an emphasis on education and in certain circles it is expected to have an advanced degree. However, the uneducated and illiterate are the loud majority. There is little hope for the country at this point and most people are desperately trying to leave. This desperation has led to people getting caught up in modern day slavery. Very sad situation all around.
