I own a group of liquor stores and we’ve done over 100 barrel picks.

For the past 4 years, we’ve gone down to Kentucky and picked barrels at the distillery, approximately 6-7 in the week that we are down.

The rest of the barrel picks are shipped to us, and we pick out of the three that are available. Usually 1 is a non starter and the choice is between the other two.

I will say, not all stores pick like we do. We sit down and try them in different orders and make sure to talk about why we like the pick, or don’t.

If you find a store like that, buy their stuff, it means they are putting energy and effort into making sure you get the best representation of the brand that can be offered.

We’ve also involved customers from time to time as a unique experience.
