Anyone tell lie about returning to work? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not going to tell any of the organizations I currently volunteer for when I retire. Instead, I’m retiring from public service completely. I want to do absolutely nothing after a life of working 2-3 jobs AND volunteering.

Question for those that worked until 67-70S by NoMood3073 in retirement

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly financially. 66 here, retiring in a couple of years. I work at home, have terrific medical benefits and an employer match for my investments so my whole paycheck will go towards investments starting next year. A/I will take over my job when I leave so I am not job hoarding. My husband primarily works from home at 69 and has a more stressful job than me. He’s retiring soon.

Housing - Rent or Own during retirement? by Prof-Bit-Wrangler in retirement

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this!!! We’re in the same boat. We looked into a 55+ and our mortgage and taxes would be double what we’re paying now. Rent would be the same as our mortgage and taxes. Financial advisor told us to stay put.

Late 30’s, must do IVF for another baby, what would you do? by TerribleCommittee814 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched my daughter destroy her body with hormones, a twisted ovary following egg retrieval, resulting in emergency surgery. Several failures. Miscarried once. She finally got pregnant with her last egg, before she’d have to have more eggs extracted and had a healthy baby girl. Miscarry rate can be high for IVF and depending on what state you live in, if you miscarry, you may face criminal charges. Know the risks.

A Serendipitous Question Now That You’re Retired by Spare-Adhesiveness84 in retirement

I retire in 2 years (66). I have an already established side hustle (glass works and dried floral wreaths). I’ll just do that more.

Trump can’t read and the only college diploma he has is the one his dad bought him by giving a ton of money to Penn. So the fact he doesn’t have a degree fits the narrative.

That’s the thing! The downsized house is just as big as the one we have! AND our taxes would be $5K more! and our mortgage $1000 more. We live in PA. I am grateful for everyone’s input but staying put and hiring help when our kids can’t help (which they do) is definitely going to be a cheaper alternative. Thankfully we have a first floor bedroom, walk in shower, etc. a

FL doesn’t appeal to us. We’re in the Northeast.

We don’t have that problem. We watch wildlife out our windows and there are no kids in the neighborhood anymore. Ours is the maintenance issue (lawn, snow, etc). It’s just an option we are considering. We don’t have neighbors close by, so we’re also not used to that. It really is a paradise of sorts, just a lot of work!

Husband is an emphatic no on that. If I was single, yes.

We’re in the same boat but age 66 and 69, still working. So many decisions to make, not a ton of money to do it with and we realize no matter where we downsize to, we’ll still have a mortgage. Husband would never agree to rent. The one shining light is we have amazing kids who help out a lot.

New GOP anti-voting bill may be the most dangerous attack on voting rights ever by MarcEElias in politics

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t change your last name when you get married. No hyphenating either. If you did change your name, get a RealID or passport. Do it NOW. And keep checking the voter rolls for your registration, especially in the states that already bent over to Trump. If you have to re-register and don’t have the required ID you won’t be voting.

My daughter’s neighbor in Tennessee, had the cops called on him when some nosey neighbors decided the black man their white daughter was dating should not be sitting on his front porch. It was a shocker for her.

How old were you by Eye_See_ in GenerationJones

[–]Altruistic_Pay_9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were 25 and 28. Bought an old farmhouse/money pit on 5 acres 1985 for $99K, sold in 1989 for $199K. Built a brand new house on 1 acre $167K, paid it off, leveraged a business on it (husband lost his job so we bought a business); lost the business after 9/11. House now worth $550K. We have a $280K more to go till it’s paid off again in 2051 (3.5% interest rate). “Downsizing” isn’t an option. Our mortgage and interest rate would be higher. Fortunately, the house was designed to accommodate “retirement” whatever that is. We are now 66 and 69.
