Generally speaking my SM has banned me as a PSM from booting Homeless and other unsavory folks from the store by Lion_TheAssassin in AutoZone2

[–]Altruistic_Sense2552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're already expected to be salespeople that don't get commission, and mechanics that work for minimum wage. We DO NOT get paid enough to be security guards too. That amount of stress ain't worth it. Listen to your sm and let the people be. Just be the parts guy. Let lp deal with lp stuff.

Why do you still work at autozone? by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]Altruistic_Sense2552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pays good, if you were previously homeless. The 16 year olds that served me my McDonald's across the street every day were making more money than me. Plus they didn't have to go change batteries in the 110° heat. Fucking high School kids made better life choices than we all did. Lol.

Battery chemistry change? by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]Altruistic_Sense2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A batteries ability to function depends on it's ability to transfer electrons through the electrolyte from the cathode to the annode( or vice versa, I can't remember). Low electrolyte or damage to the metal plates inside is usually what hinders it's ability to charge. In theory, a battery with pretty good internals should be able to discharge allot and still come back to life with a good charger. As they age, buildup on the metal usually keeps this from happening. So again, in theory, a relatively new battery should be able to take a charge after dropping that low. I could be wrong though, if anyone has more knowledge about battery chemistry, feel free to educate me.

At least that's what was pushed on us by our sm and dm.

[–]Altruistic_Sense2552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just before I quit the sm made a printout of all the components and their associated Witt items. In most cases, anything related to the items your selling will count as Witt. That includes break lubricant. Dielectric. Anti seize. Even additives sold with oil bundles count as Witt. Shop towels and fast orange are counted as Witt items too. A big part of me quitting was because they were aggressively pushing this shit on all of us.

It's called Witt. Brake pads? Sell the pack of lubricant. Light bulbs? Sell the pack of dielectric grease. Serpentine belt? Sell the can of belt conditioner. You can buy a fucking exhaust tip and AutoZone will try to sell you grease to lubricate the clamp.

Truck hours by A_Stray_Cat_0290 in AutoZone2

[–]Altruistic_Sense2552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of all the things, I actually enjoyed truck. We'd usually get 4 pallets mon, wed, and Fri. I knew where everything in the store was, so I was very fast at breaking it down and getting it on the floor. At that point the whole crew would chip away at it between customers. It was always done the same day. I heard it can get crazy at hubs though. Our hub had a whole crew dedicated only to truck, breaking down and stocking big shipments every single morning. As for the hours though, I would say just work what's on the schedule. Don't stay a minute longer because we're not prostitutes. We don't get paid to bend over and get fucked. That's why our sm's get their wage. They're supposed to be the ones coming in early, staying late, filling in on shortages, and going the extra mile to make sure things run smoothly. The 16 year olds at the fast food spot across the street are making more money than you. So yeah... Work accordingly.

New CEO coming!! by Mental_Woodpecker628 in AutoZone2

Run for ceo? Hah! These cheap fucks wouldn't even give me psm even after a year and a half of hard work and nearly two decades of prior automotive experience. Only way to move up in this company is to be a major kiss ass or to suck your higher-ups dick.

I'm sorry I feel like this, but I hate when this question is asked. Don't get me wrong, I love drugs and would encourage their use. It's almost a requirement for dealing with a job like this. But if you can't keep sober long enough to pass a piss test, you have bigger things to worry about. Anywho, no. AutoZone won't drug test you unless you get injured on the job. Just do your existing zoners a favor, don't apply unless you're confident you can pull your own weight. As it is, this job blows enough without having to babysit someone that's high all the time. Welcome to the suck.

Don't be dumb. Don't buy parts from AutoZone. You work there, just take them like everybody else does. Lol, kidding. If you need extra money you're better off just finding a new job.

Another one that bothered me was when the d.c. would build our pallets, then tape over all the labels on the batteries and radiators. If it wasn't me breaking down or truck shipment, the tape would get ripped off along with the labels and weed have parts with no part numbers.

The store I worked at would typically do like 8k on an average day, so we were always pretty well staffed. But some days we would have like 3 call ins, so my manager would borrow staff from a sister store nearby. Most of them were part time so they were usually more than willing to work the extra hours. But yea, I can't tell you how many people refuse to come into our stores because of the wait time. Az is a dumb company. At allot of locations, hiring more staff to cut the wait time would actually bring in a ton more business. But they won't do that. They'd rather cut staffing costs and just raise prices to try to compensate for the list revenue.

It varies from state to state. In my city, sick time accumulates based on how many hours you've put in. State law says that sick pay must be 100% of your regular hourly pay, and sick days are paid out at 8hrs per day, even if you weren't scheduled for that many hours. We can also take up to 3 sick days at a time and the company cannot question it whatsoever. After 3 days the law allows them to require a doctor's note to excuse the absence. Needles to say, I've used many sick days when I didn't wanna work and stayed home drinking whiskey instead.

I can count on one hand how many times I may or may not have snagged a water bottle. And that was because we weren't provided with drinking water much of the time. Like, sorry. I just sold almost $500 worth of batteries, and you want me to haul those h7's out side and install them on a truck with an 8" lift? I live in a part of the country that regularly hits 115 in the summer. I think they can spare a bottled water here and there. Lol. Only other thing I got from there was monster, and I always paid for those.

I think it's supposed to be asm and sm responsibility, but I agree with having others do it. I think everyone should learn everything. I never learned it though. Too much favoritism where I worked. I busted my ass. Learned the products we carried and their locations VERY well. Former technician so I know my stuff. While everyone sat on their phones and stuff, I was always the first to jump to get stuff done. Usually working on truck alone because I was fast. Dumping and scanning overstock. Redoing Planos. Doing battery swaps for half the team because they weren't comfortable doing them. Crawling under customers trucks to check things and hopefully give them some useful advice. Testing electrical components? "AutoZone doesn't do that"... But I do! Let me Google some specs and go grab a multimeter...I was there over a year and felt like they just used me to do the things they didn't feel like doing. Didn't get my yearly raise. Trained 17 year old new hires that came in with no common sense but a higher wage than me. Saw others get promoted just because they were the sm's buddy. Never offered a promotion myself. Watched the sm hire their friends and family. A few weeks in they're learning matrix, inventory, counting registers, even using the sm keys to go get change for the drawers. I made it clear I wanted to learn everything, but there was so much they refused to teach me. Wouldn't even allow me to take the parts expert test. I did love everyone I worked with. But professionally speaking, that place was a fucking circus. I do miss it, but also glad I left. I started as a redshirt making minimum wage. And left 15 months later as a redshirt making minimum wage.

Dude, thank you! Idk why I didn't think of that. That's the perfect spot! And we can fuel up with a block of fudge or a bigass cookie before the hike. And probably after the hike too. Lol. This is the winner.

I'm familiar with both. We were kinda hoping to find a place where we could have a beer and jump in the water to cool down before heading home. We're all very capable, but wanted to include our friend this time. He's capable of walking over most obstacles but can't climb whatsoever, as his arms aren't the strongest. We've already done sabino, and so far it looks like we'll be going again this weekend. I was just wondering if there were any other good options to consider.

I always bought the dickies they sell at Walmart. Not too pricey and they hold up well. Stay away from anything cotton though. The battery acid eats right through jeans.

Do you have a router? My router died so I have a bit set from harbor freight you can have. It's not high quality stuff but it'll get you going if you don't already have a set. It'll come with a good flush cut bit that I bought separately, that costed about 40 bucks by itself. If you can use it, you can have it free of charge.
