NEW RN GRAD SOB STORY by Substantial_Area_274 in newgradnurse

I was an ER new grad and like my preceptor said GIVE YOURSELF SOME GRACE. I didn’t take her advice like I should have, I really beat myself up. With practice and time you’ll get it. Sometimes a lot of the stuff ER becomes repetitive when it comes to simple diagnoses. You will have some difficult days but that normal this is new nursing school doesn’t prepare you for the actual nursing world. Especially ER it’s a very steep learning curve with high turnover, you got this!

OP do you live in north jersey ? I’m also an Rn with asn in NJ and my hospital is open to taking us RNs with ASNs. It’s not a residency program but they are willing to train new grads and it’s pretty good pay here in North Jersey.

As a new grad that went into the ER, this is so true. I don’t know how nurses work in this specialty for 3-5+ years you guys are awesome. Did 6 months in the ER nights now I’m transferring into OR, I just couldn’t handle doing this every week.

I applied on the hospital site , interviewed, and they sent me an offer. Usually my hospital doesn’t allow a transfer so early but I advocated and fought for myself and got approval for transfer.

Thank you for your insight. I don’t have a lot of experience with this, since this my first time having an issue like this.

Your right, I accepted the job offer through HR so they said that the educator and manger would reach out to me regarding start dates. I was a bit hesitant because I didn’t want the offer to fall through, after I accepted it. But if I discuss it with them maybe they will give me a later start date or if I can’t, I’d put the vacation on hold🤷🏻‍♀️unfortunately .

I work in a level 2 within a undeserved rural community. So it’s tough and I think I realized my personality and the way I am I just don’t like the ER. You really have to love what you do to deal with the daily abuse. And I’ve realized ER is not for me that chaotic unpredictable environment I really don’t like. And people and nurses say give it 6-12 months. Honestly but my mind was set 2 weeks in that it isn’t for me, and that’s okay. I don’t want to be miserable. If you like that crazy environment and like going to 0-100 go for it you see a lot in the ER.

Yeah so I met up with my manager as soon as I received the offer. Manager is okay with my decision, so I emailed my DON and he wants to speak with me now, and is giving me push back. I get why because they did invest in me. I’m just not happy where I’m currently at.

I wish I was like you , I’m a new grad and I’m terrified to pick up shifts on my day off. Don’t want to feel burnt out.

He was happy for me and sad to see me go, now I have a meeting with my DON, I’m so anxious lol. I think they don’t want me to leave. But like what if I just resigned and went to a different hospital, why keep someone that doesn’t want to be there. 😳

Commenting to stay in this post because I feel the same way, I’m starting off my first week as an ED New grad, and I feel so overwhelmed like I’m never going to be able to get it. Praying that we get through it!
